AACW could use some Weathers modding too

Early January 1862, in AGEod's American Civil War:

Crazy quilt! :bonk:

Hmm, looks like AACW could use some Weathers modding too. ;)

Smart move marketingwise, all things considered.

Investigating further the WIA/GameData/Terrains/13 CoastalWaters .ter file, I see: UID = 13 FileName = CoastalWaters Kind = $WaterTerrain Name = $ter_nam_ CoastalWaters Text = $ter_txt_ CoastalWaters This makes me question the appropriateness of the " CoastalWaters " -> " Coastal " substitution as a...

By "empire-building strategy game" I mean a game like EU3, or the forthcoming Magna Mundi, which is light on the military, and heavy on the diplomacy/production/trading/spying/... By "operational war game" I mean a game like NCP, (but hopefully expanded to have more, and smaller, regions) where -- i...

But it is precisely what Napoleon built, an empire ;) Agree with Caranorn, but I guess it will be very difficult, enough freedom to be fun, but not too much to allow a credible recreation of napoleonic history (and hypothetical variants). NCP has many small and short scenarios with not too much pos...

For thoroughness' sake, here are all WIA files containing the string "CoastalWaters". In addition to the WeatherPatterns_CoastalWaters_*.ini files, in all likelihood the "CoastalWaters" -> "Coastal" substitution should be done in all other WeatherPatterns_*.ini files as well. I can't offer an opinio...

The Friendly Skies of Delaware etc. -- A Major WIA Weathers Bug

In the course of my work on the Berto's WIA Weathers Mod (see http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=21844 ) I was preparing a series of images showing the various weather areas in WIA. For some strange reason, I couldn't get the coastal areas to display (highlighted as snow, everywhere else be...

Weather Areas

The Coastal areas (Coastal_Carribean, Coastal_Southeast, Coastal_Middle_States). Generally okay, but maybe some consolidation is in order. http://pikt.org/ageod/wia/weathers/Coastal_Carribean.jpg http://pikt.org/ageod/wia/weathers/Coastal_Southeast.jpg http://pikt.org/ageod/wia/weathers/Coastal_Midd...

Weather Areas

The Upland South weather areas (Upland_South, Upland_Southeast). I think a better name would be Inland South. Not too bad, minor adjustments only. Likely, some consolidation. http://pikt.org/ageod/wia/weathers/Upland_South.jpg http://pikt.org/ageod/wia/weathers/Upland_Southeast.jpg

Weather Areas

The Lower Lousiana (Mississippi Valley) weather area (Lower_Lousianne).

Too narrow, north to south. (North American weather generally moves in fronts, west to east.) Likely reassign these regions to adjoining weather areas.

Not too bad, minor adjustments only. (Less likely, maybe some consolidation, too.)

Weather Areas

The Kentucky weather area (Kentuckee_Uplands). I might extend this southward to encompass some of the mountainous/wilderness southern uplands. Note the "appendix" extending south into what is modern day Tennessee. That needs to be fixed. http://pikt.org/ageod/wia/weathers/Kentuckee_Uplands.jpg

Weather Areas

The New England weather areas (Upper_New_England, Lower_New_England). The Lower_New_England area is quite small. I think some consolidation with Upper_New_England (or, less likely, Upland_Middle_States) is called for. http://pikt.org/ageod/wia/weathers/Upper_New_England.jpg http://pikt.org/ageod/wia...

Weather Areas

I definitely think that some region reassignments among the different weather areas is called for. In general, I think that weather in WIA (and other AGEOD games) is too granular -- especially since we deal in 15-day and 30-day turns, so weather areas should represent mid-term averages . That implie...

Berto's Weathers Mod v0.3

I am going to proceed to playing some test games with these revised Weathers files. There will surely be more tweaks. But good enough for now. Oh, and permit me this: A bit of background ... I have been critical of AGEOD games in the past. (I still am, but more on that in a moment ...) Critical to t...

"Perfect on release"? (Now, that's a straw man, if ever there was one!) No, of course not. But frequent CTDs, ubiquitous out-of-memory errors, corrupted save files, etc.? Advising everyone to quit and restart every four turns or so? Surely all that is not acceptable, at game's first release ...

AGEOD could do worse than to focus just on forever iteratively releasing new-and-improved versions of ACW, NCP & WIA -- popular topics all. Some game companies, and game designers, find success specializing in a narrow range of subjects only. Does AGEOD really have the expertise to tackle obscure wa...

AGE engine has lost with the year its focus. Each new version has brought new details. Fine? ...
