:siffle:

But if Napoleon said otherwise, the ranking order of the marshals was the one of their promotion. And contrary to what people may think, the #1 wasn't Murat but ... 1. Berthier (major-general of the army) 2. Murat (lieutenant of the Emperor) 3. Moncey (the most senior) 4. Jourdan 5. Masséna 6. Auger...

For me, the best movie about the ACW is " Ride with the devil ". It is one of the very few non-"politically correct" movie about this war. 1/ the main characters are Rebels, for once, which reminded me about one of my favorite WWII movie: " Cross of Iron ", with German "heroes". 2/ despite how un-"p...

I'm glad to see that someone finally appreciate such a fine soldier as Stark! :bonk:

Remember, his sole word of vocabulary is now "Chargez!". That should make your next posts easier and quicker to type ... :dada:

Great comics! I've got them all: I got interested very young in the ACW thanks to them! But I'm sad to see that no one here has mentionned my favorite charachter: the (in)famous "capitaine Stark", commander of the Union 22nd Cavalry Regiment. http://www.bdcentral.com/Tuniques/Stark.gif The one regim...

Another Chasseur volontaire

To come back to this topic subject, the Blacks in the French army during the AWI, there is another major figure of the incoming Haïtian revolutionnary wars that learned the way of arms in the Chasseurs volontaires de Saint-Domingue: André Rigaud , champion of the mulatto cause. http://fr.wikipedia.o...

Langlois (de Mautheville), marquis du Bouchet

Hi, I'm actually interested in the life of Jean Denis Florimond Langlois , marquis du Bouchet , later to become " Langlois de Mautheville ". I know he'd been fighting in the American War of Independance alongside the rebels at first, then as an officer in Rochambeau's expeditionnary corps later. He ...

Ogé, through his death, we could even say his martyrdom (he was killed, as during the Middle-age, by being clubbed to death on a row, in public) became a symbol of the fight for freedom of the Blacks from Saint-Domingue. And as is said in John Ford's The man who shot Liberty Valence : " When the leg...

Belley

Hi, Belley did not completely disappeared from history after going back to Saint-Domingue/Haïti in 1797. He went there with general Hédouville's expedition, as colonel commander of the colonial gendarmerie. But Toussaint quickly forced Hédouville to sail back to France, and Belley went with him. In ...
