Re: "DirectX to Renderer invalid call" error

Several possible causes. The most likely is you are not running the game in administrative mode.
If you do run it that way and still get crashes, please report again.

Re: game crashes to desktop

You know, this does sound like a lack of providing your game Administrative Privileges, as previously mentioned and discounted

Try this. Make sure your have got your game ready to resolve the turn. Save. Exit the game. Restart your computer. Resume the game. Run as and Administrator.

Worth a try.

Re: game crashes to desktop

I am not certain what the pinned suggestions encompass, but two thoughts:

1. Most crash to desktop issues come from not running the game in admin mode

2. Occasionally, not installing as an admin also causes this issue.

Re: Best original AJE scenario for head to head PBEM play?

Hmm, good question. The Cantabrian Wars is an excellent DLC but it is tough to play on both sides. And you must be updated to the latest versions for it to be balanced. But it is a single theater with focused play. The Spartacus Revolt is a very decent choice. Spartacus is a tough opponent. I do not...

Re: Best original AJE scenario for head to head PBEM play?

You may be very well playing the best learning scenario of the original AJE game. Both players have pretty clear goals. There is some complexity in best play, but if you know Marius will grow weak quickly and must act decisively early, this might make it work. Only the Year of the Four Emperors is l...

Re: unable to save new turn

This is a curious situation. Let me parse this just a bit. You may need to reply to clarify my misunderstanding of your issue. It sounds like you are saying you run the turn and then save, but when you return you have the old turn. This is kind of odd as you are doing exactly as you should. Always s...

Re: Antwerp and first months of war as Central Powers

Trying to do the historical German sweep through Belgium is a serious challenge, but it can be done, almost. Mask Antwerp with a small but sufficient corps. Antwerp is not necessary to your line of supply nor does it hinder your advance. The worst thing that can happen in Antwerp is that the British...

Re: What is the secret to buying reinforcements?

Perhaps you just need time. It comes into your deck a couple of times each year. Once there, it remains until you use it. So play a few more turns.
Don't get me wrong, building new units and replacements is a major challenge in this game in the early years.

Re: What is the secret to buying reinforcements?

No secret, just hard planning. This game and each of its scenarios are terribly and historically parsimoniously limited on resources needed for reinforcement and building new units. A few things you can do: Look for the convert money to war supply option. Use the contributions option Appeal to Engla...

Re: Roman leaders need 1 command point

This is an interesting finding. I have enjoyed the scenario as is, but as I am a bit of a technical fumbler, could one of you put all the needed changes into a file or files which I could just drop into my install? As is, this is a bit scattered as to exactly what I should do.

Re: Caesar's too strong!

Playing as Pompey is always a supreme challenge. I had one pbem opponent who actually 'cracked the nut' on how to win as Pompey (I cannot say I can recreate his fine play). What he essentially did was play the early game without territorial aims. This is a bit of a challenge given the game rewards t...

What you say at the end is one of the delights from these games, sometimes you just have to learn. One thing which really surprised me as I was first learning to play AGEOD games was that when I had a different kind of success I would be presented with different options. The same thing is true with ...

Khanti – Some interesting observations. I mostly agree with Captain_Orso's reflections, but had a few additional thoughts on the subjects you raise. I hear you, you do not care if it is historical or not, but nevertheless, militia units in the South belonged to the states and states were very reluct...

Re: Caesar's too strong!

Quality of leadership combined with troop quality and training make a huge difference. Playing as Pontus I had a 75,000 plus force of Greek and Asian troops against Sulla's 15,000 valued force of trained legions. Sulla won. While this is a bit of an extreme situation, Caesar like Sulla with trained ...

Yes indeed, there were never penalties for anything other than maneuver and marching. A way of thinking about this game concept is that inactive or locked status is the general has not carried out the march command given. However, this failure to comply, whether due to laziness, tardiness or cussedn...

So what arsan is explaining is you get the leader's combat bonuses which are built in, 1 in offensive or 2 in defensive, for instance. In addition, if they have some special combat value like siege or supply value like forager this applies to all troops they command.

I do agree, the king ought to always be number one, but . . ..
I am very ok with a game which show the king has lost too many battles that he ought to be aware of the need to have his more successful commander lead major battles.

Re: Can the Austria join Coalition in 1805 Scripted Event be removed?

I am so mixed on this discussion. I usually view this conflict as a war between France and Austria more than a conflict between England and France. As the game is designed, it is a French/British conflict. So in this game, Austria needs to be a free agent to play alliances as it chooses. A great thi...

I am not actually sure if this is 'the answer' to your question, but it might just be such. Think of the munition trains operating as supply wagons in other game. This means they draw ammunition to them from depots and cities. So keep at least one with each army and if possible with each corps. I th...

They fulfill their historical use as scouts for fleets. Fly them out a bit and let them return. You can, of course, use them for other purposes.
