Re: Points to know for the Confederates

This will also cost two leaders, your good one and one more with a lower rating to avoid command penalties. I often use a spare two star leader and any division commander

Re: Poll on decisions

To me, gather mercenaries is hard to use well, when I need it I have no money. When I can afford it, I do not need it.

There are several I have not yet had the opportunity to play, but for the most part the other decisions work and make sense.

Re: Landing seperate corps

As delcastel says, is there an army with the group to reform?
There really is no way to land them from the same fleet; however, what you can do is break down your transports into three fleets and then land each corps separately.

And Welcome to the forum.

Re: Commanding generals and supporting units

I think the answer is yes, absolutely. The purpose of an army is to support corps; however, if you just wish the army to coordinate corps and not add the army and leader values, you can, but then you sacrifice the leader ratings of the army commander. This is even true of McClean's excellent defense...

It was May when the regiment arrived and August when it was first in battle. So I would speak in favor of removing October.

You are so right, but always leave at least some unit inside the city so if all is a disaster, you can retreat safely.

Leibst newest game project

For those of you who have enjoyed Leibstandarte's games, you have an opportunity to join his newest project: a game focused upon the wars of liberation in South America, that is, Bolivar's era and efforts. Find news of it here - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/787937257/libertadores For me pers...

Re: Division composition question

I offer my best advice. Once you have begun to dig more deeply into the game and enjoy its complexity, you will find your own 'best' division composition. One thing I do is to stage new units to a city, two in the west and one in the east, where my 'available' leaders wait to form divisions. This al...

Re: Division composition question

I realize my reply was kind of disjointed, but yes, infantry divisions and cavalry divisions need some artillery units, not many, but some. I do build a Union artillery division for the Army of the Potomac with an artillery capably leaders. You can do the same with the South if you can gather enough...

Re: Division composition question

You are correct there is conflicting information, but I suspect general agreement. My take on why this split, is focus of explanation, that is, I think all your authors primarily agree, but are explaining differing concepts. Most play, whether on offense or defense, favors balanced divisions. This i...

Bad generals are still very good at defense.
Reduce the out of command penalties best you can and wait.

Re: AGEOD BOER WAR

The current Matrix and Slitherine stores are less than helpful in answering this question, so I looked at the second copy I bought not to many years ago when the Paradox version became unstable, the base game only includes the 1850 start. Four of the add on scenarios can be purchased, but the others...

It is included? I cannot discern between base game and modules, but I thought only the 1850 start was in the base game. My copy is very old, so I do not know what is available. Also, the Matrix and Slitherine website redesign makes finding the included scenarios hard to find. I am pretty sure the Bo...

Open the most recent backup file' Copy and past all files into the new folder. Then go to the load games menu and see if you can now see the game. If this works ...

Re: Missing Savegame

Hi OldContemptible - Welcome to the forum. Two possible things, one might be you are not saving before you exit. Saving creates a new version of the file. Are you running the game in administrative mode. This is the most usual reason as the game creates files 'outside' of the game and it needs the '...

Re: Lost Johnsons boys

Do not defend inside of cities. Defend on top of the city with maybe a very small garrison inside. If you units are inside a city and must retreat, they surrender and are eliminated. If your units defend outside the city, they will retreat normally. Think of it this way: at Vicksburg the forces were...

There is a second reason. The host has benefit of extended thinking. Typically, the host gets two times to think about th...

Re: Question about PBEM

So much depends upon you. You have several excellent avenues in which to proceed. RUS is most ideal with two White players in pbem because this represents the divided command which afflicted the White's plans and cooperation troubles. Part of why this is the case is because the two different White f...
