Re: New to AGEOD games and ROP

I too expect you will get this.

The deal is to make sufficient corps to contain units subordinate to your Army or Armies. Within your corps, you need fully staffed brigades.

Hang in there, both my opponent and I finally won as the Romans. As he said, Rome took a four times the time to conquer Italy as it took to conquer the rest of the world.

Re: Cost of Armies

Hello Durk, I do not really remember when I began to experience trouble, I think it started around the late 20s, so I already had the Danish support fleet for some years. I will check the development of the game now and then and see, if a patch has arrived. I love the setting, but the game seems a ...

Re: New to AGEOD games and ROP

Learning the AGEOD games is often a initial challenge, but you will be rewarded. I would suggest this: Use the Maria Theresa at Bay scenario instead as it is very direct and has few complications. Take the Prussian side (I assume you are playing AI) Organize your armies. Take your existing armies an...

Re: Matagorda - Block Cotton selling

I am pretty sure Matagorda was selected because so much CSA trade with Europe went through Mexico. This event is different from blockade running, historically. It represents the relatively small, but important, alternative to blockade running. It is a more direct trade. Could the Union have blocked ...

Re: My first AEGOD Game and game play settings.

It is probably ok to use Easy Supply and no Traffic Penalty. While you will eventually want to turn Easy Supply off, there are enough other things to worry about as your are learning. Traffic Penalty still has no settled consensus as to if to use and if so what settings. I would suggest setting it n...

Quirk - I see you have moved on, but when you return to TYW post again we should chat. If you only purchased two units then something is not working correctly for you. I typically buy all the 'card' units and one or two units a year, though my focus is upon buying replacements. And I have the full D...

Re: What if they kept Lenin in exile?

For what it is worth I recommend A People's Tragedy: A History of the Russian Revolution. New York: Viking, 1997 as a source to weigh the debate which has been ongoing in this thread. Many events are yet to be definitive in what actually happened despite so much time and documentation. This source a...

A player-friend and I are working backward, chronologically, through all the AJE scenarios. When we reached the Cantabrian War, instead of the usual you play and then I replay and then we move on, we played this scenario about six time before moving on. Rome is seriously challenged and cannot simply...

The 1862 West Scenario is brilliant. I used to favor the June 1861 start, but you are so correct.

There is a way through. This is the toughest AGEOD game I have played, but I think it is the best, so far. It requires careful play, luck and conquest. It really reflects the realities of the era, never enough, but maybe squeak one more contribution from the populace. Judicious use of requisition an...

Re: Comand Questions

When you first click on a stack you will see a number if the unit is out of command like 25% or 10%, this tells you you have a command penalty.
You will come to know this, but is a bit different than you suggest.

See if this makes sense.

Re: Hot seat

Easier than you can imagine. Just log in, play your turn, hand the computer to your opponent. Let them play the turn by logging as the opposing side. Run the turn.
A delightful feature of all AGEOD games is you can play all factions solo. Same deal applies to hot seat play. Just take turns.

Re: Objective Cities - Blinking the Wrong Color

I am not really an expert on the map filters as I usually just play by the seat of my pants; however, I think what you are seeing is not control, but objective. That is, Ft. Duquesne is a British objective so it blinks red. This is a shorthand to see where you ought to focus your strategic planning....

Re: Special Abilities

In the same stack has two meanings: The overall commander of the stack which includes sub-units like corps, does indeed provide his abilities to each unit in the group. So if you have two or three corps organized in the same stack as a three star army commander, that commander provides his attribute...

Re: Postures and other things

I think you have a bad install. My recommendation is to place all your install and update files into a folder, I use one on the desktop, and reinstall the whole game. For safety, move your game files into their own folder. This should clear up your problems. When you install, make sure you install a...

Re: Anyone any tips for beseiging cities while playing as 'barbarians'!

Scenarios vary, so some general notes and ideas. For the most part, non-Romans must simply infest the time necessary to starve fortresses into surrender. Some non-Roman forces can build siege towers. If so, you will see these in your troops available boxes. In a few scenarios, siege towers are card ...

Re: PON official quickfix 1.04.3

I think, Siegfroh, you do not understand the scope of the players who enjoy this game. PON is, perhaps, the most complex military/economic game available. Players understand that this means many glitches, but none of them are fatal to game play. Those who understand how to mod these games make small...

Re: Replacing Army Commanders

Reading these posts with much interest. The 'problem' to me with many of the suggested 'fixes' is that the political generals were not Lincoln's generals, but those of the Radical Republicans. To keep the game 'historical' it is important that victory or loss in battle would not impact the 'purity' ...

Learning and Playing PON

I understand the motto, easy to play hard to master. This really applies to PON. I have had the privilege to be in two games with very dedicated gamers. I continue to learn so much. When new players join to replace players who no longer can commit to the game, they are not uniformed novices, they ha...
