Who gets promoted is a combination of their contribution to battle success and a bit of luck, so this can happen.

They fulfill their historical use as scouts for fleets. Fly them out a bit and let them return. You can, of course, use them for other purposes.

Re: PBEM problems

Pocus, thank you so kindly for your comments. I came to this forum about seven years ago thanks to an innovative change in the click through support icon which brought me to this forum instead of a lame link to some company pablum. At that time I was kind of 'the babe in the woods' just trying to fi...

Re: Critical error again and 2 GB main log ...

Not being an expert, but also having seen crashes when scrolling, I have found two causes:
1. Not allocating enough memory to graphic or leaving winter graphics on.
2. Not having updated DirectX
I have not had crashes, so some hope for you.

I so get this. I live in the American West and so love that Glorieta Pass is a potential site in CWII. Somehow, local is better than most anything else.

Hi PasserBy and welcome to the forum.
I do not have turn resolution delays. It takes less than two minute for me.
I wonder if you might try this, run as a nation other than the one you are playing.

Yes and yes.

Actually, this is a great start for a very different take. I like it as it starts once the trenches are so set and you must look to other options.

Hmm, interestingly I had privately told Philo32b that I had never seen the issue he reported. Unfortunately, this just happened in a game I am playing. Every single active Imperial unit is sitting in Pavia. Ouch.

Re: PBEM procedure

One twist I have learned with pbem is to do joint hosting. It speeds up play, but mostly the benefit is both players host every other turn as then you get to see every other turn run. To do this, one player starts the game and plays the first turn. Saves and sends all files. Then the next player mak...

Re: PBEM problems

Sometimes Windows places the actual saves file in a different place than the 'normal' saves folder. Start up a game. Name it something easy to search for but unique. War Without and Enemy would be my choice. Use the windows search the C drive function. When you find that file, go up one level and ma...

Most scenarios allow you to continue to play. For the most part new game events will not appear, but you can continue to explore. Not all scenario all this, but almost all do.

Re: a zillion noob questions

Welcome to the forum. You have chosen to start with one of Ageod's most challenging games. In one sense this game is deceptive about the challenges because unit density is so low, but the complexity of good play is elusive. Are you building forces with units integrated into a commander? And are you ...

I did not know what you meant by look at the next track.

Keyboards vary, but if using the USA layout, E and R cycle land units. T and Y cycle naval units. W cycles locked units.

Re: Questions from a new player

Welcome to the forum Kaddo,

You ask questions beyond my competence to answer. As to #1, put the leader in a 5 level city (I think that is right) and they will generate volunteers.

As to the other two, I have no clue.

Re: IS failing to MTSG possible?

I too have send MTtSG fail. I always encourage players to replay battle to see the range of actions. While this might not approach the range of research Cardinal Ape has done, it is enlightening to see that no battle has a predetermined outcome. In this type of exercise I have seen unites march to s...

Each satellite nation is a bit different in what benefits you gain. Many offer force pools from which you can build. This means they offer regions where you can recruit and gather. Not all do this, however. But you do gain the city values.

If the ledger tells you this is an expeditionary force, this would be odd.

Re: East Prussia 1914 scenario, negative victory points?

I am pretty sure this just means you are playing well as both factions. You can up the difficulty and see if you get the same results.
Another option is to play both sides and see which one you do best with if there is no AI.

So wouldn't it make more sense to allow a stack to retreat back to its transports following a failed landing rather than making it fight to the end? (I am not saying that anything should do with the combat penalty associated with landings...that seems rather justified.) You know, pgr, this was my f...

Hopefully someone has a better answer. The only way I know for you to decide is to move on HQ further a...

Re: Playing solo against yourself

I really like playing solitary against myself. It might be helpful in your understanding of how this works without 'cheating' to know I did this for years with table top board games. As you can imagine, no enemy dispositions were hidden as in AGEOD game with fog of war. But one function of the AGEOD...

Yes, just the way you say it. Best is still up in the air for me. If you poke around the forum, you will see several suggestion for the best composition of armies and corps. I use the army as a 'fire brigade,' rushing in to help corps, so I try to make it strong in all arms. I do not put a corps ins...

Re: Corps out of army container

Conceptually, EAW runs a different idea of the relation of armies to corps. Once you understand this, it is an excellent simulation of the WWI era armies. To get 'any' benefit, corps need to be in the same or an adjacent region as an army. Corps do not embed inside the army (although they can). Inst...

Re: To the Mountians!

Well, my short and sarcastic answer is - the way retreat works in all AGEOD games! The rule I have derived is this: Retreat is to the most annoying and impossibly difficult region possible. In this mindset, I imagine the retreat algorithm is this: where would the player most hate to have forces retr...
