A Vietnam War game?

Can the AGEOD combat system work for more modern games?
What does everyone think about the feasibility of a Vietnam War AGEOD game?

Re: Still worth a purchase?

I completely agree about the map! As good as the refinements in ACW2 are, the old fashioned texture of the map in the first game adds so much to the flavor of the period in the game.

Turn Checklist for Newbies?

As someone new to AGEOD games, I'm learning the various parts of the system, but I always seem to forget something.

Is there a recommended turn checklist of things to do, things to check, that a newbie can go through so as not to forget anything?

thanks

Excellent choice for the next game! There are so few games dealing with Ancient Rome [Rome: Total War being the only other one that I know of]. But I agree that the title should be changed to something like "Crossing the Rubicon". I've forgotton what little Latin I learned in school, so I don't know...

General Strategies for Newbie Player

I'm new to BOA2 and would like to know about general strategies for both the British and American sides.

There is a stickied Strategy Section for AACW, which I've found to be invaluable! :coeurs:

Could one be started for BOA as well?

thanks :mdr:

New to RUS, most fun side to play?

Greetings comrades! I'm new to RUS and was wondering what the community feels is the most 'fun' of the three sides to play?

I would love to see the bios in the next patch! Bios really added a lot to the the historical flavor of AACW and would really help those of us who don't know much about the Russian Civil War. I'm afraid to add it to the code myself because I don't know what I'm doing and would likely mess up the game.

Crash on Startup with new patch with music added

I had added extra music from the 2nd South Carolina String Band to my 1.15 version of AACW and it has been working fine. I recently upgraded to the newest 1.16 patch, which worked fine patched from the vanilla 1.07 version. However when I tried to add the extra music, the game would crash...

Interesting to speculate on how the war would have turned out just on which leaders had lived or died. What if AS Johnston had lived? The Confederate leadership quality in the West would have been far better. What if Nathaniel Lyons or Stonewall Jackson had lived? What if Sherman had stayed retired?...

When to Industrialize?

Next question, good sirs. :hat: When to start industrialization, specifically as the South? Timing for the industrialization for the North seems to be more a luxury amongst a sea of riches. More a whim perhaps, 'shall I industrialize this turn?' But for the South, when and wher...

Confused about Industrialization

So when you industrialize, do you keep the same level in a state every turn? Or is industrialization a one turn event that you can turn off the next turn? in other words, is Industrialization a long term investment or does it just boost your production for one turn in that particular state?

"The Civil War" by Victory Games

A very long time ago I used to play wargames (the ones with paper map and cardboard counters) and liked very much " The Civil War " by Victory Games. AACW is the only computer game that give me the same and even better enjoyment (PBEM, better fog of war, various unit types, ...). I completely agree...

BOA2 List of Leaders?

Is there a leader database for BOA2? One exists for AACW but not one that I can find for BOA2. There was a link to a leader file in BOA1, but the link no longer exists.

Also is there a set of short biographies for the Revolutionary leaders as there is in AACW?

thanks :gardavou:

new patch crashes

Hello! I tried to install the new 1.16rc4a from a vanilla 1.0 and encountered an error stating "installation stalling, send error logs to:" then it crashed totally.

Where do I find the error logs to send in? And where do I send them?

The game worked fine on 1.15 on my system.

Agreed that "Shenandoah" was also a very good Civil War movie along with "the Horse Soldiers" with John Wayne as a Union Cavalry commander raiding the South. Several westerns also start with a Civil War theme then diverges into the meat of the movie including "Rio Bravo", "The Undefeated", and "Danc...

For an American neophyte who knows next to nothing about the RCW {but who is really getting interested in the subject matter}, could some kind soul make a short list of the half dozen or so major figures in the RCW? Dear Baris, regretfully the examples you have given do not match the definition of "period music" for RUS. These songs have nothing in commomn with RCW. "Smuglianka" for example tells the story of some pretty Moldovan girl who happened to be Soviet partizan during WWII. Here you can find some Sovie...
