Why is it always Kolchak? :) I always felt that he was more of a proxy - they had to send someone to Siberia, and Kolchak was the only man with reputation available at that time. Also, Krasnov still in power means two options - he either made peace with Denikin (and allows him to retreat eastwards w...

Interesting. So Krasnov would be for an autocratic government like Kolchak which would, at the best, lead to no cooperation with a Komuch still holding Volga theater (so no serious Independences recognition because Whites conserve military leaders in the South and in the North would not apply it). ...

SR were prefered to the Whites

Yes, and therefore, joining Denikin's government, could give him more broad public support.

Yes, but you talk about popularity. Popularity is what could have protect the government from a coup. People had weapons, and easily could have kill all bolsheviks and put back the SR government, but almost nobody care... Popularity = nobody care? :bonk: Voting for a government is not showing popul...

SR lost their huge popularity when they governed (or so) before the bolshevik coup, that's why nobody protected them against bolsheviks. Are you referring to Kerensky period? If so, I'm afraid you're mistaken. The one and only reason for the October coup was Bolsheviks having been steamrolled by th...

So the key for alternate history would be before the Kolchak Coup and not in Siberia but in South Russia. I'd say, in two particular points: first one is winter 1918 - 1919, when Denikin removes Krasnov using his cooperation with the Germans and his support for an autonomous Don state to accuse him...

Pozshalujsta :D which clearly show that he refused to take the political responsabilities for this, although he is the (self)proclamed supreme leader of the White cause Don't forget that it was sent to Denikin. Hey, I finally made myself to sit down an write down some thoughts on the subjet, especially the Krasnov and Wrangel part. 1) Krasnov as a Southern White supreme leader seems wrong to me. He was a cossack general, a strong advocate of independent cossack state. I'm not even sure he'd support a march...

I just found what seems to be a small collection of russian sources on the topic. http://books.google.com/books?id=B_DMm33oTt8C&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false It's too short and brief for my taste, but as far as I figured most of the books quoted there were never translated into English, so...

Well, I believe that the quote represents the mindset of the regular White soldier fairly well, at least I got this impression after reading several memoirs. "Whites were Czarist Imperialists" is very much of an old stereotype, really. It was Kornilov, for example, who arrested the Tsar and his fami...

Here.

Apart from being moderately interesting, might be useful for modders. The database is in russian only, so if you need to find someone in particular, I'll be happy to help.

most historians (academics or not) agree on the fact that the peasants and the workers in 1917 were really not concerned at all by the Russian Nationalism or Imperialism I second this. The emotion that drove the White Cause was first and foremost "save Russia from the Bolsheviks". Regular soldiers ...

An excellent wishlist. I would only add some complexity to Ukranian question. Creation of an independent Ukranian buffer state was main polish interest in the east. Therefore, guaranteeing Ukranian independence should be the keystone of allying Poland. Denikin's move against Peltura was the main rea...

Actually, survival (and subsequent political activity) of the Royal Family would mean splitting the Whites into two hostile camps - the monarchists (Drozdovsky, later Wrangel in the lead) and the democrats (Denikin and his General Staff circle). Also, the SR were very influental in Siberia, and thes...

Won't be needed in my opinion. I mean, bolsheviks didn't have THAT much support. Taking Moscow and Petrograd would mean winning the war.

But i'm not sure it would be too easy. This little countries would act like western troops : helping around but not invading the center. Armored Support and Armored Trains Strategy

So far I only tried to use armored trains as sort of a strategic reserve, - most of the time they are concentrated under direct army command, with an occasional rush or two to reinforce some other far-away stack in need of assistance. Every time I tried them alone against weak enemy garrisons they g...

The difference between Red and Whites for the peasants, is that they knew the Whites for long and didn't want to be under tsarism rule again. Whites ≠ tsarism. They never viewed themselves as a monarchist force, nor were they viewed as one by common people. Some whites indeed had monarchist s...

My reasoning is, an early white victory would lead to the same type of government that came from febuary revolution, with greater problems and less resources - along with political rivalries amongst the leaders of different white factions and no real consensus on how to govern the country. In short...

if they were defeated all other factions would be fighting for years to come. How so? If whites had won early, a Kadet and SR government would have been elected, as it was before the war. If whites had won late, a firm right-wing dictatorship would have been the most likely outcome. Anyway, the int...
