Well, that would be weird (he was only a 21 years old junior cavalry captain so he wouldn't qualify for his own unit :) )...it's already weird enough to "play" the Whites... In terms of lack of supply I can tell you that it was a reality. I have many stories about that. One thing by the way which re...

I love the fact that the AI is playing differently in similar situations. I tried 3 times the first 2 turn with the Whites and every time it was different. For example, twice I managed to take Astrakhan with a Terek Cossak regiment but the 3rd time someone was waiting for me and I was in Passive Pos...

I think I can say that this is one of the best wargames I've played ever. And I've been playing for about 25 years ! I know the Russian Civil War history almost by heart (I'm a grand-son of a White Army officer) and I take a lot of pleasure seeing that you've been able to recreate that incredibly co...

Actually now that I think of it, it's not because I occupy the city of Segezha that I have more than 25% military control over the region. It's probably why I can't use the rail from Murmansk...

I just discovered a way to choose to which army (Don Cossack or Volunteer) you assign one of these 2 Cossack 2 stars generals stacked with Krasnov on turn1... All the Cossack and Volunteer unit begin the game INSIDE Azov. Select Krasnov army, drag one of the 2 generals (Denisov or Sidorin) OUTSIDE A...

I had the same problem and don't understand the reason.
On the 1st turn i had the Brits walk to Segezha and control the city but then I still couldn't send troop from Murmansk by rail.
The 22 days would show no matter what. Is it a bug?

Well I thought that there was no choice, that the 2 Cossack 2stars generals had to be under Krasnov command but apparently "cwegsche" (nice name) managed to attach them to Denikin.
I have to try that later today but it wouldn't be very historical...

I just drag them out from the main army and create the two corps. Don't know why it shound not work ... you have an army and a two star general so you can create a subordinate corps. For me it works fine just like it's supposed to work. Oooh...I didnt drag them out of the Krasnov pack first, that m...

Yes, there is a real chance to annihilate all Red forces south of Tsaritsin and take a huge number of prisoners. And what about: building a river transport in turn 1, and using the whole Don to transport troops north, to the port of Lipski. It can be used as springboard for an attack to Moscow if T...

It's no problem to build two corps with your 2.star-generals. Split your forces in those two corps and mop up the red forces to the west and east of your position! No problem for you maybe...I can not create Corps with these 2 Don Cossack ** generals you're mentioning. Am I doing something wrong? T...

Interesting comments, thx. I agree with you on the option #1...probably the best one. On the tactical level I find myself taking way too much casualties because I can't manage to time my different White divisions to attacks properly together. I can't create Corps yet so they often attack separately ...

I'm using strategy, when I meet large enemy force to go with my forces away and stay just with some cavalry units. AI usually divide strong unit trying find your units and then you can fight them separately  Good idea, create screens of cavalry on "retreat" combat mode and try to have the AI ...

Southern White Strategy in Grand Campaign ?

Ok, this is just some comments and questions about the Whites in the south at the very beginning of the Grand Campaign. I did the first 4-5 turns a couple of times to try and understand the dynamics. My first priority is to save my forces as much as possible and not throw the White Elite divisions i...

I didn't start this thread to discuss Koltchak historically (I don't believe personally that he was such a horrible leader given what he had to deal with in that period of time against such odds) but to see how a Siberian White player would use him in-game. In my opinion, with such horrible characte...

I was hesitating between promoting Dutov or having Koltchak charge the first Red armored train by himself !

Is Koltchak a handicap ?

I wonder when I look at Koltchak special abilities if it's not better to take the 5 VP and 1 NP hit and promote Dutov or Ivanov-Rinov (both 3 stars) to Army Chief instead... What do you think ? I mean..."Corrupt, Incompetent staff AND Poor Offensive Strategist" ?! I guess someone in the AGEOD team d...

As for the relation of Ukraine vs the White it depends really of the time and who "controls" it (nobody never really controlled it). The Skoropadsky Hetmanat (~april-december 18) was very much conservative and relied on German-Austrian support before turning towards an alliance with Denikine after t...

Many many jokes in Russia about that Chapayev guy ;) Chapayev, Petka and Anka, in hiding from the Whites, are crawling across a field, first Anka, then Petka and Chapayev last. Petka says to Anka, "Anka, you lied about your proletarian descent! Your mother must have been a ballerina -- your legs are...

that last Russian map is interesting because it still has a strong Communist propaganda element in it.
If you look carefully it never shows that the Volonteer Army took Tsarytsine nor Orel...It can't be a mistake, it's done in purpose to underplay the success of the Whites.

Definitely MUST read is the classic "White guard" from Bulgakov, about some young "White" Russian officers stuck in Kiev during the Civil War between the different Ukrainian factions and the Reds. You'll find the book in any language. Bulgakov somehow luckily survived all the Stalinist purges. On th...
