Re: Searching for a PBEM Game!

Archon and Age engine are two completely different birds. Think of it as difference as Civilisation 4 and 5 difference. It could be similar game, but would have completely different feel. Completely different mechanics and visuals That's funny, I greatly prefer civ4! It would be starting from scrat...

Pleasure is all mine.

Anyway, is there a chance for Civil war 3?

Re: Searching for a PBEM Game!

Rusty as hell as well also. I visited this forum after a couple of years and stumbled on this post.
Amazing how people still play this gem.
I wouldn't be able for super fast game pace though.

Re: strategic/operational/tactical level

I watched Twitch stream of Empires and it seems Empires will be more Empire building games vs strategy/tactical games of previous titles. I feel that we can't have it all. If they tried to put it all in one game, it could end up a mess. Empires feels like a Civ/TW type of game.

Re: Is this forum dead ?

I wouldn't be surprised if he left because of New Design disagreements. I have no knowledge of this, just a huntch. Pocus was the main code designer, but the historic accuracy was always PhilThib departement. It would be probably the best for Ageod to do a sequal with the new engine (ala ACW3), wher...

Re: Improving AGEOD gameplay with 3 simple steps

Forming and disolving a division is cumbersome. Why can't we drag and drop brigade on division, or brigade out of division. Why cant we select a depleted regiment inside a division which automaticly selects its parent brigade. Why cant we we select a division and view a pop up window with its Order ...

Speaking of, why do brigades contain cav and art regiments in the first place. I thought artillery was handled at divisional level and cav was also not under brigade commander control?

But that would be only IF . *1) This was done bc of a bug, which would mess up the content of a brigade which had had it's 6lb-er battery upgraded to a 12lb-er, and subsequently lost an infantry element. During the replacement phase, the game would check the elements in the unit and discover the or...

Re: Schlieffen Plan After The War Starts ?

Doesnt sound promising. If you haven't knocked out Russia from the war, widening frontline in the West won't make you better in the long run while you are still at war in the East. Russians are a dangerous foe if you let them recover.

Ace said: And the bigger problem is how the game calculates who won the battles. It works well when 1 army leaves the field. But when both armies are in the same region (when noone retreats), the game assignes victory status to larger army which is plain wrong (there is no draw - I haven't seen it ...

The region in question is Floyd, Georgia. It¨s the beggining of 1864 Campaign and I tried to stop Sherman with my AoT in the mountains south of Chattanooga. My force didn't retreat after the first battle. But the engine rewards the winner of big battle with instant MC gain. SInce Union was declared ...

I assure you that my combat losses where spread over multiple divisions (over 6 rounds of combat and 4 different ranges per round, units where in and out of combat and no regiment lost more than 10%). Union suffered twice as many losses, but I retreated and they did not. And the battle report says m...

Re: Hold at all costs

Unfortunatelly, you are not right. The game compares power ratios, not cohesion numbers (although low cohesion leads to low power numbers so it is easily to make false conclusions). So, when you have two large armies that have been barely dented by combat (appears only in low frontage regions), the ...

Re: Hold at all costs

I think it has failed loggic in HAAC calculations. Formula doesn't factor in % of casualties. It only has power ratios, posture coefficients, trench value and random dice. I had 2% casualties and they retreated because on a big number of combat turns, eventually low dice roll for retreat will appear...

Hold at all costs

Hi all. It's been a while since I played this fine game. I would like to comment how it is too hard to hold a region. I had a battle in mountain region where I was outnumbered 140.000 to 70.000 troops. Since it was mountain battle, the resulting battle was a skirmish where I lost only about 2.000 tr...

Let's go back to the logistics. Does game logistics system minorizes living off the land and overemphasizes the ability to carry supplies with wagons?

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Yes, it's a smart thing to do and that is why game is unbalanced. You are evading intended seniority. The 25 NM penalty if Mac was not in command of the Army was intended to simulate political cost for removing him from command. Be a man and take a hit if you don't want him in command, or try to use...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

So,
in game terms, you know Mac is poor general and you dont give him command of the army.
Lets imagine Lincoln did that. Would he suffer any political and senior problems cor doing so. How the game simulates it?

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Back to the Topic. Game is PBEM unbalanced and historical unbalanced since Union player has the advantage of knowing what are his best generals. Union cities are not worth a lot of NM points and CSA cities are, so USA can safely let parts of its territory undefended. Since I am very poor at modding,...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Its been a while since I played the game, but the last time I played it, unit could retreat to 0%MC if it was nimble enough, depending on enemy Zone of control in a region it was retreating from. Basically, if Army carried its wagons it couldn't retreat to 0% MC region if it was retreating from fair...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Kidding aside, VP tally isn't the only dis-balance in this game. Common phrase is Union was fighting the war with one hand behind its back and that's true. What the game doesn't simulate well enough is the need to fight it with 50% effort. Union gets the same number of print money cards, raise taxes...
