Re: Mod for 1701 WSS campaign

Glad to see this game is getting some love, even unofficially. I have been following this thread with interest, I own several AGEOD games, but WSS seems to work the best as a game IMHO. I currently have a GNW PBEM match on the go, but looking forward to trying the mod at some point. Keep up the good...

supply rules are a bit fuzzy, but you get a feel for it after a while. In my experience, depots seem to have minimal impact on supply generation, if any. The main use of depots is to allow you to draw replacements when using the Hard attrition rules. As a rule of thumb, the major cities such as Vien...

Well it's all moot really, in TYW they are all going to starve to death for lack of supplies anyway. I am half serious... :cuit: you are talking about the game? Supply is more stingy, but once you get the hang of it and optimise your strategy in fonction of supplies, I have not had any problem keep...

Since there seems to be confusion about this, here is a primer on the anti-cavalry formations used by 17th century infantry. The Spanish Tercios were the first to use it: Although it is possible to trace the evolution of square infantry formations back to ancient warfare. The hollow infantry square ...

The net result of those evolutions was that by c.1635 infantry presented a strong fornt of firepower supported by pikes, but was very vulnerable to flank attacks, so it relied on the cavalry to provide flank protection, but if the friendly cavalry was defeated the infantry was lost. well no, that i...

Charles, sorry I misunderstood your statement, you wrote "the importance of cavalry" so I took it measured in numbers, not in effectiveness. Effectiveness is much more difficult to asses than raw numbers, however you can be sure that cavalry was much less effective against infantry in the 1500-1600...

Cordoba and other Spanish units are removed randomly as they go to Flanders. There is a message in the log regarding this. Charles, In fact I wrote myself the Wiki article on the Military Revolution you linked! So, to the point, you wrote from what I gather, the 1600-1650 period was a transitional era, when the power of infantry was on the rise due to changes in firepower, tactics, organisation and the importance of ca...

Cordoba leader disappearing

1.01RC, grand campaign.

The Cordoba army leader that appears in mid-1621 disappears after a few turns with no associated message. I replayed the turn twice with the same result. The first time, he was imbedded within a unit.

On the contrary, the TYW saw an increase of the importance of cavalry as years passed, the late armies had considerably more cavalry than infantry. The original post by Charles was about the 1600-1650 period, in that period there is a definitive tendency to an increase in cavalry proportion, from t...

The Battle Planner is very nice. Like others have posted, some formations are evident, like using flank attack when you have a lot of cavalry, but I also would like to have more detailed info on the advantages/disadvantages of the different formations.

Been playing for about a week, very impressed so far. Very good representation of 17th century warfare. The playing area is about the same as RoP, but it feels bigger because armies move slower and supply is tighter. The tight supply also means you really have to plan ahead to take advantage of the ...

supply is very tight, it seems more stingy than in AJE. Playing the Bohemian revolt as HRE vs AI. July 1621, I have built pretty much every unit available and have a max of 3 supply carts, but if I concentrate all the armies into a large stack, it is difficult to keep it supplied except around Vienn...

I have only started playing the game myself, but it may be too early to talk about making supply easier until we are more familiar with the game. TYW uses the same "simple" supply system as AJE and from what I see so far supply levels seem similar. In AJE, it was possible to keep relatively large ar...

I havent picked up TYW yet, still on the fence, but assuming the supply system is like that in AJE, it is very important to check it every turn since it can vary greatly with the Seasons ( low in winter) and the terrain (low in mountains) and keeping a large army too long even in a friendly inland c...

I recently redowloaded and reinstalled a fresh copy of RoP Gold + v 1.11 + the 4 unofficial patches/mods posted by Bohemond. yes, after taking a closer look, it seems to work fine. I guess what threw me is that the replacement system seems to work more efficiently in the 1741 scenario than in the 1756 campaign game, but that is probably because Prussian forces spend a lot more time camped on friendly structures in the 174...
