Re: Extending Scenarios

The game can continue but there will be no more events and so no incentive to carry on to the end. Thanks anyway.

Extending Scenarios

It is my understanding that once a scenario is completed, you may continue to play but there will be no more game events or victory point changes and so continuing to play is generally a complete waste of effort. I would like to play the campaign through from either the start of the Danish Phase or ...

Re: Hoping Random or other veterans are still around

Good work, thanks for sharing. Removing the Diplomatic Phases until the November-December turn makes some sense. For myself I have not started a Grand Campaign for some time as I actually prefer the repaired 1915, 1916 and 1918 scenarios as all present challenging strategic problems from the start. ...

Re: Hoping Random or other veterans are still around

If you check the WarPlanTurnRules.csv file in the Grand Campaign Scenario folder you can see that several rules relate to Italian diplomacy and apply only on Turn-1. Presumably this means that the rules which do not fire during the first diplomatic phase are still active for the second diplomacy rou...

Re: Hoping Random or other veterans are still around

Here I had thought that I was the only person still playing WW1G! Anyway, the diplomacy sub-routines are pretty complex and I am uncertain that all is working as intended. For instance it does not appear that Greek granting of Free Passage to the Entente actually allows Entente supply past Salonika....

I would also argue that no army can be effective everywhere. Regardless of the scenario and faction that you choose, you will sometimes find yourself fighting in terrain that your forces are not suitable for. My advise is to try to avoid over-complicating the problem. Think big picture and try to av...

Re: How to do well against Sertorius

Sertorius is an excellent leader and tough nut to crack. As I recall, there should be a political option at some point that allows you to spend money to have him assassinated and this helps solve the problem. If you cannot beat them, murder them in cold blood. It's the Roman Way.

Re: Love this game hate the crashes...

The only crashes that I have experienced in TYW were self-inflicted by clicking on the Elements window when in the Unit Purchase mode. This is a known issue, one that is easy to avoid and other than that single problem there has been zero stability problems, freezes or CDT in my TYW games.

Re: Do you know that old AGEOD AAR's on "other forum" still exist?

Welcome, useful first post, thanks for sharing. I recall the Battleships for Bhutan AAR for the original HOI but had not realized that someone had actually conquered with that country. One can argue that "realism" in any game relates to how we play and has little to do with the game mechan...

They indicate that the railroad has been cut and needs to be repaired. This tends to happen in the East where Russia used a wider gauge than those nasty Western Europeans. See "Railroad Conversion" on Page-37 of the Big Manual.

64 this year. Started wargaming in 1968 with Avalon Hill's Jutland and 1914 and still have both games complete. First computer game was Computer Harpoon in 1989 on a state of the art DOS 386DX-25.

Have won as both and lost both so cannot be too much help answering your question. As noted above, you appear to have found a formula that works for you and I think that AJE benefits from having a well thought out strategic plan. Having achievable long term goals certainly helps with the planning. P...

This happened to me as I had purchased the pre-release version that included the Spartacus DLC from the Paradox days and thethen new v1.05 patch could not find the game. Tech support solved the issue in less than 24-hours so I recommend raising a support ticket and providing proof of purchase if nec...

Re: DLCs

I have found the Cantabrain War DLC to be a nasty business for Rome. Brutal terrain, too few troops with too many missions coupled with a potentially deadly opponent. It is cheap to buy and offers some really challenging asymmetrical warfare experience. That said, the entire franchise is worth playi...

I have already opened a ticket but the solution offered was not relevant to the CTD. The only advice offered was to roll back the turn and to disable file compression. Since the latter was never enabled this could not have been a contributing factor. Rolled back the offending turn and am progressing...

Re: In the meantime, what do you play and why?

Have just finished the March/April 1917 turn as the Entente in a World War One Gold 1915-scenario campaign. Lots of Command:Modern Air and Naval Combat time as well. The Thirty-Years War and AJE (currently 42-turns into the 2nd Punic War scenario) fills some time-gaps as does some Silent Hunter 3 or...

Was hugely disappointed in Pike and Shot Campaigns although I really wanted to like it. So, have avoided Fields of Glory II since my understanding is that they use the same engine. Never checked stock but in my updated 1918 scenario they certainly are in France on the first turn, January 1918. Second Army is in Paris and First Army with AEF HQ under Pershing are behind the lines in north-eastern France and the valley of the Meuse. When last I found myself in that part of Franc...

I would expect that this is working as designed since once steam engines were placed in warships, their ability to spend months at sea essentially became non-existent. Just one more question.. You were playing with it patched to 1.05, yes?

Yes. Of course legions of deceased brain cells since may have effected my memory of this but I am pretty certain that on some occasions consuls failed to activate in the long 1st Punic War scenario.

Re: (BOR - Punic Wars) Roman Consuls Won't Fail Activation Rolls

I completed the long First Punic War scenario a couple of weeks ago but did not notice this happening. Indeed I clearly recall instances where one or both Roman consuls were not active and this actually cost me dearly in the campaign for Sicily.
