Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

No, he basically put statistics together comparing the number of troops lead by a leader compared to the losses suffered by his force, and concluded that the leader with fewer losses per capita was the better leader. However he did not take into account whether the leader was acting in an offensive ...

Re: PP Bombardement n No Loss Report

I would have to disagree. I recall reading specifically a post from Pocus (probably back in AACW days) stating that artillery lead by an unactive leader or in PP will not bombard passing ships. It would break with the general PP paradigm that units in PP are 'passive', and bombarding is not passive....

Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

I think the greatest difference between the Federals and Confederates was that the Rebels believed they had every right to leave the Union and even those Southerners who didn't give a hoot about slavery, slaves were a wealthy man's subject, felt they were fighting for their homeland. Northerners wer...

Re: CW2 Excel Database

First off, the link to the CW2 database files in Official Files for modding does not match the link in Post#1 of this thread. In fact, without having tested every single link in Official Files for modding , I haven't found a single one that works :( I was putting a tutorial together on how to mod un...

Re: How do I edit generals' skills and traits?

I was just putting a short tutorial together and discovered a problem with the datebase files, which is too complex to describe here.

When I've found some clarity, I'll put a short tutorial together.

Re: Question about brigades

Am I right in saying that in the 1861 full theatre campaign, There are two full campaigns (two theaters campaigns), the April '61 Full Campaign, and the July '61 Full Campaign. Mississippi, for example, only has 4 brigades (Baldwin's, Featherston's, TM. Jones', and Statham's) available for the enti...

Re: Hold at all costs

Ace, if I understand correctly, your defending force retreated from the battle. If your force has retreated from battle, and it is now in PP (Passive Posture) then it has no further influence on the battle outcome. Thus, even if your force has not yet left the region, because of the day the battle o...

PP Bombardement n No Loss Report

I setup a small scenario at patch level 1.6.3 and tested units in the Island #10 Redoubt in PP (Passive Posture) bombarding a passing fleet. Units in PP, even if inside a fort or redoubt should not bombard. They did however. Also, only the number of hits are being reported, but lost vessels are not....

Re: Theater campaigns?

If you're just starting out, the one year theater scenarios might be a good jumping off point if you don't want to take the head long dive into the cold water of the full campaigns. The advantage would be having half the map to pay attention to while still having enough to get nearly everything unde...

Hi Morelyn and welcome to the forum :hat: excluding DLC there is the Western Campaign which isn't the entire war in the west, but starts in Late Feb. '62 and runs 24 turns until late Feb. '63, and Sibley's New Mexico Campaign, which is only the Far West and goes from early Jan. '62 until early Feb. ...

Re: Question about brigades

Barksdale's Bde. is a unit generated per an event. The Unit definitions are set up so that all brigade units associated with the same state share a single set of Unit Names, regardless of the size of the brigade. Using Alabama as an example, AL has 3 different types of brigades, Inf-Inf-Art-Cav, Inf...

Re: Question about brigades

Brigades are allocated to your build-pools through events, which IIRC are complete about mid-'61. The pools can be associated with a home state, or an home area such as Mid-Atlantic or Deep-South, which determine where the units may be built. There are also a few pools which are unrestricted by home...

Re: Cannot use Land Mine here, why?

I'm saying that there is NO exploit, and used the example of how it would be if there were one, to demonstrate how illogical it would be. I believe the siege check occurs at the end of the turn, after all movement etc. This is supported by the fact that at the start of the next turn, when you are lo...

Re: Confederate Seniority + Army Command Problem

Hmmm... this is an issue I've never seen before. The tool-tip messages obviously are incorrect in that R.E.Lee has a higher seniority than both Polk and Beauregard. Maybe, just maybe, it has to do with your having dropping Lee into Beauregard's stack. I would have expected him to automatically be pu...

Re: Officers and Generals

GF what you are talking about is the leaders in the stack. What LT is talking about are the so-called FlavorNames. These used to be defined in the element models, and displayed in the element detail window in AACW, but for whatever reason they were forgotten in CW2, and dropped from the model files....

Re: Gathering Intel

The important thing is, will/could YOUR unit accidentally enter a region with an enemy force. The actual cost of entering a region is dependent on so many factors, each having a larger or smaller affect on the actual movement, that it would be impossible to tally up into a simple table. Besides, the...

IIRC it's a matter of luck to escalate the Trent Affair.

But I don't think the Trent Affair is the end-all-be-all trigger. It's just one of many. The boycott of Cotton sales is at least as important, and something the CS player can actively do.

Re: Bug with Ottoman Empire Reform event

The evt_nam_TUR_Mustafa4_Sultan1807 event looks simply and straightforward enough, and I can't see an error in it. The only unit it should remove is 'Sultan Selim III' (ldr_TUR_Selim4). But looking at the <F1> unit list one can see that the only Turk unit in the game is 'Sultan Mustafa IV'. I would ...
