Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

I'm curious if the same is true for other players, but I find the biggest expenditure of VPs can easily be promoting generals out of seniority order. Giving Grant (and Sherman) lower seniority would force the Union player to either wait longer to promote them (and especially to give them army comma...

Re: TU units disappear at end of turn

Thanks but not FoW . Informed by TU player and then I loaded as TU to investigate So the TUR player is saying that he had units, which were simply removed from the game without reason, with no message in the message box, just vanished. Then being able to look at the turn directly before it happened...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Kidding aside, VP tally isn't the only dis-balance in this game. Common phrase is Union was fighting the war with one hand behind its back and that's true. What the game doesn't simulate well enough is the need to fight it with 50% effort. Union gets the same number of print money cards, raise taxe...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Nice work. Although ratio should be 4:1 rather than 2:1. Imagine the prestige in Europe if CSA would hold Ohio. We'd have to do an in-depth analysis of VP locations and the time frames of when which cities were in who's hands, and extrapolate where the players left the historical time line. So, I d...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

I think the best way to address balance issues is by adjusting the VP. I think CW2 is like Matrix WIP - the Japanese and CSA best shot is early on. I think the VPs should reflect the player's success in playing the game, and not how close they are coming to winning the war. Barring the collapse of ...

TU - Turkey. I sorta get it now :bonk: Phase 7 - end of program running before it saves (the blockish icon) :D Those are the days being processed. Re: What does Veteran Activation Actually Do?

Actually, you only entrusted your orders to staff officers, who often understood what was expected to be carried out, and sometimes were instructed to insure that the orders were carried out as the commanding general expected. They didn't have the authority to order the receiving generals what to d...

Re: What does Veteran Activation Actually Do?

Question: are you comparing defense automatically turned to offense posture? If so, these are the same no matter the activation option selected. Where it matters is if you would not be auto-changed because your control is sufficient. So you correctly see no evidence. Remember, this is medium activa...

So if I attacked a 100% controlled enemy region with an inactive general I should see a -35% Command Coefficient in the combat logs? I don't. Re: General loosing special ability

When Morand is promoted to **Gen, he loses Fire Discipline, but he does go from 3-4-3 to 4-4-4. But not all promotions will improve command values. Sometimes a leader can lose on command values and abilities. It depends on the leader.

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

You are 100% right. Now how do you model it ingame with current available tools. You would need a set of events, which check for who controls a city. If the CS controls the city, VPs are X, if the US controls the city the VPs are Y. You could also have one set of such events for different time-fram...

Re: What does Veteran Activation Actually Do?

Good discussion. I'm playing the 1864 scenario with principes and asked him about this. We've had 3 turns on Veteran and I've not seen a single unit with a general that didn't move when expected to move. I remember in ACW units with generals would be locked down a turn and they wouldn't move. Has a...

Re: What does Veteran Activation Actually Do?

Hmmm, the combat penalty is only on the defensive? Seems weird. I did only test attacking with inactive commanders.. I'll have to try that. Ummm... what? An inactive Leader cannot voluntarily go to Offensive Posture (OP), but he can be forced into OP, by entering a region, in which he has < 5% MC. ...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

The real question is, what do you understand as balance? If you consider the military rule of thumb that you never attack with less than 1-3 odds, and the fact that the Union must basically attack and conquer the entire South, balance would be for the Union to have 3x the force size of the South, ve...

No Activation Rules: All Leaders are always activated, and therefore never incur movement nor combat penalties for being inactive. Normal Activation Rules:...

Yes, you can download the CW2 database files, copy the scenario you want to go on beyond '65, rename it, change the end date and create a new scenario like that. Or you can simply continue playing. Each time you load a scenario which has reached 1866 and beyond, the 'who won' pop-up will appear firs...

If FRA is human and AUS is AI, once FRA signs the treaty, AI will automatically countersign the treaty the next turn. If FRA has taken Vienna and doesn't wish to sign the treaty, that's the player's decision, which has it's own consequences. By the time FRA has taken Vienna, it will be winter, or ve...

The settings -> system menu it buggy. If you want to really know if your settings are being actuated, you need to look into the General.opt file in the Settings folder. Re: Do Game Settings Only Impact When you start the game?

I would suggest synchronizing settings with your PBEM opponent, or visa-versa, as the case may be. It's the safest way to deal with the situation. It is truly unfortunate that settings are per game installation, and not per started scenario, with the ability to change settings once the scenario is u...

8< I don't generally see a line through a general if they are killed; I rely on the message box to tell me that I can't remember having seen that. Re: afterbattle info

Shortcomings of the current system are that not all Elements of a Division are even displayed in the Battle Report. Per Division only the first 10 elements, which includes the division commander, are displayed. This often doesn't let you see the artillery and cavalry in a division. Also, the brigade...

Re: afterbattle info

In CW2 in the Battle Report, killed leader and destroyed units are shown. Their icons are crossed out. Additionally, you should get a message in the Mail-Box, in the battle category I imagine, stating when a leader or unit was destroyed.

Why are you assuming that this doesn't occur?
