unit health not in bold

What does it mean when units/stacks PWR numbers are in small black lettering as opposed to bold white?

Re: units greyed-out

I assume they are moving and fighting at a disadvantage (if there is no penalty then why are the units shown differently?) Given that, why do they became greyed-out/shadowed in the first place and how does one reverse it?

Re: units greyed-out

In Italy, the Corps of Gouvion St Cyr has been moving and fighting for some months. Now we have peace with Austria I have moved St Cyr south and decided to detach Lecchi to fight independently only to discover Lecchi is greyed-out. So my question is, has Lecchi been moving and fighting in the north ...

Re: units greyed-out

For instance, the French officer pool provided in 1806 I move to Strasbourg and assign a cavalry regiment each to Lassalle and Piston. Lassalle's command envelope and bar graph stats are greyed-out and his name and PWR are in small black lettering. On the other hand, Piston's name and PWR are in whi...

units greyed-out

Why are some units partly greyed out? They seem to function as normal units otherwise.

Honestly I have been searching for an answer to this question for more than a year.

turn summary NM and Army org

Why does the turn summary always present National Modifier and Army Organisation as something notable? It doesn't seem to be telling me anything new - or am I missing something?

Hang in there. The end of turn non-execution or crash, both happen, spans all games. It is out there and will be fixed. Plus, 1.07 and .08 and quick fix all took care of necessary issues. Put out what happened so the great folks here can fix it. I've been playing the game for two years and only rec...

I'm a bit reluctant to try the 1.08 beta patch, as after installing 1.07 along with the quickfix the game runs slower than it has before, and it has crashed several times (usually during the end-turn phase) which has never happened to me before either. What gives? I'm going back to the 1.06 version.

I cant understand the obsession with having a 'Grand Campaign'. Any game that did incorporate such a concept would be in danger of ceasing to be a Napoleonic game and becoming an empire-building game.

Sorry, Prinz, but are we talking about the same game ? First of all, there are no Histwar "games", just Les Grognards (the author, JMM, did indeed made another game, more than 10 years ago, called "La Grande Armee at Austerlitz", but is pre-history). And I assure you, HWLG goes fully to the feel ra...

And you both have not played Histwar: Les Grognards  , haven't you ? ;) Frankly, it looks like this suffers from the same problem every other Napoleonic wargame made on computer suffers from. For example, why do I - as Commander-in-chief - need to get down to ground level and observe indi...

You haven't played Napoleon: Total War have you? No, I haven't. I have played Medieval I & II Total War, Rome Total War, Imperial Glory, Cossacks, Fields of Glory (on old DOS classic!), and probably a few others. If Napoleon Total War is anything like the rest of the total war series then I'm afrai...

Units/formations set to a 'passive' combat stance also get higher priority in replacement allocation.

The most important thing is how the game feels, or how it plays, and in this respect the NCP is far and away the best Napoleonic wargame on the market.

I find the weather can affect the outcome quite signficantly. If I can get off to a quick and decisive start with clear weather, the rest of the campaign falls into place. If, on the other hand, the French cannot destroy Mack's army at Ulm within a couple of turns, then it seems to become alot harde...

patch 1.06

I am loving the changes that this patch has made to the game - in particular the Peninsular Campaign. Establishing control over the various provinces is more intuitive than before - I seem to spend less time 'policing' the control percentage with small detachments. Cavalry losses have also been even...

I have finally got round to playing this scenario - near the end of 1809 so far. It is quite different from the others I have played; the French are facing a dispersed and fluid allied army. I'm of the opinion that the game needs improvements, not a major overhaul. I like the feel of its command and control features, so I would hope that these essentials are not signficantly altered. The 7-day turn suits the era and the nature of Napoleonic manuevers. If that makes a 10yr campaign 480 t...
