Re: Several questions

The second part of the initial post in this thread turned out to be bad advise (ignore it), but the first part is a solid way to get your capital income to grow in the early game. It takes a lot of micro management to set things up initially, but once you've got your factories turned on/off as neede...

Re: The diplomatic crisis game

I generally play an aggressive card or two early to try and grab or hold on to just cause, then I focus on playing cards to protect just cause and reduce tensions. Playing aggressive late in the hand will more than likely cause war. Doesn't always work but I win more often than not. I completely ign...

Re: Building Railroad Pool Points

Not sure what the exact formula is, but I believe the more provinces with rail the larger your pool grows. Problem is railed provinces need to burn coal every single turn, so you need your coal industry to keep pace with your rail expansion. I guess it's possible later arriving techs increase the si...

to be fair its not easy Thanks Loki, after several failed attempts (Notepad kept crashing and becoming non-responsive when trying to open or manipulate the trn file) I finally got it opened and was able to manipulate the file to do a search. Mandalay is definitely empty of any units other than the ...

Re: The latest patch has greatly imporved the game.

Have you gone through the massive upgrade phase? This didn't start happening to me until after I went through the turns with almost endless lists of units upgrading being announced in the text area. If I had to guess I'd say it started around 1853-1854. I know by 1855 when I landed in China it was w...

Re: Burma wars

I used ChangeFaction to look at the Burmese, none of their units are in Mandalay. I have three light cav brigades whose elements have a detection rating of 5 along with many inf brigades rated at 3, so I'd probably have seen anything that was in the province by now as I've held it for about 8 months...

Re: Caesar's too strong!

I think 4 legions is too much for a 2 star leader to command without penalties, what is your command penalty on the pop-up when you mouse over the stack. A high penalty will mean your units preform poorly and they will route a lot sooner in battle than normal and this may be the issue here.

Re: Burma wars

Made it to 1858 in my game and I'm still fighting with Burma. I waited until the event that gives a CB before declaring war though, so for the first few years I was just defending against a hostile Burmese Army with no warscore getting accumulated. But after the declaration I found that it takes 250...

Re: The latest patch has greatly imporved the game.

I am wondering if you installed the fix for force pools that Loki100 referred to above. Nope, I simply added the patch and then the quickfix update, took almost 40 min to install both those files, so I was rarin to go. Since then I see there is an issue with replacement chits that needs fixing (min...

Re: The latest patch has greatly imporved the game.

I think the real issue is that no new tech units are getting added to the force pool when the upgrades are researched. The divisions kept in the pool are old tech so the engine only recognizes old tech units on map. Without a new tech stack in the pool the engine can't see the new tech divisions on ...

Re: The latest patch has greatly imporved the game.

This is actually a different issue I think. China and Britain are not building extra units added to their build pools, they are building endless units because their build pools keep refreshing as on map units upgrade to new equipment. I've built 40 Indian Divisions, but I could build 300 or 2000 if ...

Re: The latest patch has greatly imporved the game.

This may have something to do with unit upgrades. I was trying to build out the Indian force pool before the Mughal rebellion, and after building 40 inf and 20 cavalry divisions with 10+ of each still in the pool, I got suspicious and decided to check a new games build pool stacks. Sure enough the m...

Re: The latest patch has greatly imporved the game.

Well as you can see from this screenshot I put together, things do not look well for the Indian Colonials. I decided since Hong Kong was a mountain region which limits frontage, I would be better served if I could move north into the Canton region (6 day move) and take advantage of the open rice fie...

Re: The latest patch has greatly imporved the game.

Well I just landed a 2500 power stack of Indian Colonial troops on Hong Kong. Six infantry divisions and the rest artillery (perhaps 8-12 units not sure exactly), the theory being massed long range fire from all those 6lb guns will crush the low tech hoards before they get in melee range. If that fa...

and I have noticed some substantial improvements since patch 1.04.3. Based on your and others comments here, I installed the patch and started a game as Britain and I have to say I agree completely with your statement above. I was floored when China declared war on me in 1851. In all the years play...

Re: A 1866 Save Game, before all hell breaks lose!

Pretty sure it was linked to a tech upgrade. I remember having units I built auto-upgrade immediately once they completed construction and then more units appeared in the force pool. So basically there were endless units I could build because of the instant upgrades causing the force pools to refres...

Re: A 1866 Save Game, before all hell breaks lose!

Wile you're focused on force pools, can you look at unit removals as well? I know in the 1880 scenario Canadian units will vanish from the game after some tech upgrades. I think other non-British troops do as well but it's been over a year since I played/saw the issue and I don't recall specifics. B...

I think you're letting your gaming competitiveness and a need to win on equal terms get in the way of your strategic thinking. The way to fight Hannibal in a PBEM game is to wage war in areas he is not operating in. Playing vs. the AI Rome can easily defeat Hannibal toe to toe and perhaps players ha...

Great Mithridatic War event bug

Was playing the Great Mithridatic War scenario as Rome (new install patched to 1.05 including a quick fix I found here in the forum) and had the new governor of Greece event fire but nothing happened. Ottoman's are not much stronger than a minor power, so be careful about starting wars with minors early on. Check for strikes and other bad modifiers in your regions. Just because you have a structure doesn't mean it will produce anything unless your people are happy and going to work every day. There are lots of things it could be, post a save if you want help tracking it down.
