On a very similar situation what i did was unload in the adjacent region on the island (Cap Breton) and create a depot and later a fort there, to have a safe base from where to attack Louisbourg and a supply source for your army. It will also protect your army form weather if winter sets in before ...

I'm relatively new to the game, but here is my best answer: You can request "element reinforements" in the Military Options screen (click the globe on the UI and open page three) which the AI will release based on certain criteria. You can request militia, regular units, elite, indians, etc. I'm not...

Played for a bit this weekend. I've quickly learned the devestation of marching troops anywhere near the mountains in the fall/winter. Also, how important those supply routes are. :) Anyway, one question regarding Fort Louisberg (sorry if I butchered the spelling). My last game I played through 58. ...

I think I'm starting to better understand the game now that I've played for a couple of days. However, I have some more questions: 1. Sea Lanes - what exactly are the purposes of the sea lanes to England, Europe etc? Is there value in moving merchant ships to and from? Should I have warships patroll...

I'm in Minnesota. Back in September/October the flu hit pretty hard. I know of at least 10 people that had the H1N1 flu. Only one case was serious where an 11 year old boy ended up in the hospital for a few days. He had both the flu and bronchitis at the same time. Everything turned out okay. I don'...

Hi! No with the last official patch, you can mix provincials, militia and regulars as you want to, as in history. No special penalties or bonus. Of course, adding some regulars in any stack will stiff the militias and provincials. Don't get misguided by the provincials uniforms. They are basically ...

Very helpful information...thank you! As for overall strategy, how does an experienced player allocate the reinforcements in 58-59? Should I add them to existing armies, or create new ones? Next, are there any guidelines regarding the grouping of militia, provincials and regulars? Or are there any "...

Acre of Snow Questions

I have reviewed the forum for answers and information, but I still have some specific questions. Hopefully some of the veteran players can offer some insight: 1. Military Options - I see there are various options available throughout each turn. What I'm struggling with is when I "train militia" or "...

I appreciate the insight. Yes, you are correct, it's a bit frustrating because I would rather see more of the map than UI. Perhaps functionality can built where one can hide the UI? This would be great for taking screenshots for AAR, and immersion.

So the weather display only looks smaller due to the resolution?

It also appears the box with engagement points, national morale and foreign intervention indication runs across the top of the screen as opposed to in a box on the upper left side in WIA.

Screens look great. Thanks for sharing! I particularly like the fact the UI doesn't seem to be as intrusive as WIA. By the way, anyone know if the UI in WIA can be minimized or reduced?

Unit Descriptions

Greetings! I have recently purchased this game in advance of ROP. The learning curve is steep but I'm really enjoying the game. I'm curious if there is a listing either in PDF format or somewhere on the web of all the different units? I realize I can look at each unit individually in the game, howev...

Very much appreciate the input. I'm downloading the WIA demo as I type. I'll give it a shot and report back. Here is my post in the WIA Forum. I thought I'd include it here as well because it appears there isn't too much traffic in the other. Anyone care to chime in?: Greetings, Complete AGEOD noob...

First Time Player

Greetings, Complete AGEOD noob here who just began playing WIA in advance of Rise of Prussia. I wanted to get some experience with another AGEOD title to get the feel of mechanics, gameplay, graphics, etc. I have tried the 4 turn demo and need some help/advice. First off, I have to admit my gaming t...

Hi Jamescott! If you like XVIII century history try Wars in America for the colonial part of the Seven years war and the American Revolution. Yeah, if you did absolutely nothing for the entire winter, it would amount to around six mouseclicks and then it would be back to the action. You will certainly have things to do during winter so don't worry about this. Good points by both you and tc237. I guess I didn't think of it that way. :bonk...

by the way, which book? When Empire Total War was released I was looking for some titles to read about the era. I find I can get more into the games when I have some background. I have had zero exposure to Frederick the Great other than references to him throughout various books about WW1/WW2 Germa...

a player could launch a major offensive in January, so long as they are prepared to suffer the consequences. Very true. However, the good players won't start a major campaign during the winter because of the consequences. :) Perhaps there will be opportunities for skirmishes or reconnaissance in fo...

Just curious as to where the rating number comes from? I obviously recognize what the values are for - leadership, offense, defense.

Are these ratings common to other Ageod games? Everyone seems to be reffering to thme as such

Presuming successful campaigns are restricted to spring/summer, how will the player pass the time during winter months? While I realize the real difficulties an army of this era faced in winter, how can it translate to a wargame? Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a traditional campaign season. ...

as is the historical data indicating the higer rates of the Prussian army vs. other European forces.... The timing of the announcement couldn't be better as I'm currently reading "Frederick the Great on the Art of War" by Luvaas. I'm relatively new to the era but find it fascinating thus far. I look forward to learning more about the game, and insight from the many knowledgeable posters on this subject.
