I think that the best strategy for the CSA is the napoleonic one: if you are outnumbered, fight every enemy separately, for an overwhelming attack in a small part of the map.

I think it was better to conserve the orginal organisation for rosters, because it was easier to manage troops under your command. But it's only my 2 cents
