Ah this is a sore subject with me... The only thing that is imperative about Human vs Human house rules is that both sides fully agree what they are. If you can find someone to agree with then it really doesn't matter what they are!!! However my own personal opinion is as follows: This game is a rea...

I too am glad you've soldiered on...

:D :D

I personally think that the CSA will always lose with the best play from both players... so in a way you are no different than at the start. ;)

It will be interesting to see to what extent you give Soundoff sleepless nights...

I think it depends on your personal "success criteria". In real life you probably would fight on a while, but you have the benefit of knowing how the game works. I cannot see any way back from here. The USA is relatively weak in the early years. You are behind in NM and it is likely to get much wors...

I think that may well be that. :(

The Lee attack was probably all Banks could do but he couldn't carry the day... I think that it will be a surprise if Banks carries on... I can't see how he can stop Richmond falling and with it his entire Eastern front.

It has been very entertaining though.

Great work.

Ironically, given Sarkus post, I will use it to avoid giving too much exposure to those CSA generals who lose rankings (or gain dispirited leader attribute) as they get promoted.

Absolute Beginner

Thanks to Dudosh I'm currently in a game... :D  [color="Silver"]Hi I've never played any game PBEM before. However, those of you following the Banks/Soundoff AAR will possibly recognise my nickname (it is largely seeing their AAR that has got me interested in trying PBEM). I gue...

Nickname : xpyre Email: aihigginson@ntlworld.com PBEM Experience: none (be gentle with me!) I have AACW I will play either side. (If you are an experienced player I'd suggest I took the USA to keep in the game longer, if you are a novice I can take the challenge of being CSA) I'd guess about 5-10 tu...

Fabulously entertaining though it is, I think that Soundoff is getting into quite a lead. The AS Johnston attack was poorly orchestrated by Banks (by his high standards)... the CSA can't really make a single mistake to keep parity and that is the second one Banks has made. Unless Soundoff makes a bi...

Slowly but surely the extra resources are beginning to count. For Banks to keep his head above water much longer he needs to have luck and skill in Virginia. Soundoff has his strength split. He will just swallow each objective in turn unless Banks can knock some of the stacks out of the game. Very i...

Change of Corp leadership.

I've a corp which I moved onto a stack with a higher ranking 2 star general. As I did so the leadership changed... a little weird in real terms but I sort of understand it. The highest ranking general taking leadership of any stack. The weird thing is that General, altough 2 star was also a division...

The great thing about these AARs is being able to see both sides thoughts simultaneously. :coeurs: Soundoff's advance in Kentucky is going as he planned (granted he has probably called off the attack at Bowling Green) but Banks thinks he is in trouble. Banks is of the same opinion as me that US Gran...

Cobra II That would certainly be a bold move. I like it! I'd love to see how that would turn out. I might even try it against Athena in my current game just to see the issues. I'd never thought you could get from Knoxville to Lexington KY that quickly! My worry would be getting there and ...

Comtedemeighan You are right the CSA does have a huge soft underbelly. I think the terrain advantage of the USA is even bigger than their material advantage. The USA can open up as many fronts as it wants... and the Mississippi is like a support super highway straight to the important cities in the ...

Comtedemeighan What do you think of Soundoff's Tallahassee move? Opening a new front is essential for USA but Tallahassee is a weird place to start. Maybe becuase it is so strange Banks will not counter it as aggressively as he would have done and that may make it ultimately more effective. ...

Hi Stonewall_Matt, I'm new to the game too. The AARs are a wonderful aid to understanding the game and are actually are easier to follow than the manual and tutorial. It is very much a game where the defender has the edge. I certaily struggle to press on against any sort of opposition. In...

It will allow those of us who can't keep our opinions to ourselves somewhere to chat about what is happening. Keep up the the great wo...

Banks vs Soundoff discussion thread

It appears that there are many of us following along with this intriguing AAR. I find it very hard to comment on those threads without letting something slip. So I thought I'd open up a new thread to be able to discuss the situation. I'd love to know the thoughts and opinions of all those reading al...

Excellent AAR, Soundoff. I learned such a lot from this and your previous AAR with Barksdale. I was tempted to start another thread which discussed your position with others following along. It has certainly developed along interesting lines (especially after your early ZOC inspired victory). I foun...

Thanks. It is a great game and I enjoy it immensely. I guess I was just double checking that this behaviour was normal for CSA. I'd played a couple of other games on previous versions as USA and won much, much quicker (in just a couple of years). AS USA if you knockout Richmond, Memphis and Nashvill...

Noobie question on how to actually win.

I'm totally new to the game... and this forum. So I apologise for any faux pas I make. I've been playing a game for a few days as CSA on April 1861 v 1.13b on default difficulty and settings. I've taken every single objective, so I'm sat in New York, Washington, Louisville, St Louis the lot. Yet I'm...
