Play the shorter scenarios. I have played board game and computer games for over 30 years. So they are a bit easier for me to figure out. Still if you can figure out this one it is excellent for replay value.

Game is not as complex as it seems I would reccomend printing and reading the manual. It is an awesome game!

A coupl of questions, Turn Based, I assume? Combat tactical? Diplomacy? Random events? Politics? Rebeelion in your own forces? So much richness from this era!!!

Retreat! Or local reserves you can call in should appear in your reserve box often there are 10 or mor units you can bring in.

You must load all forces in your battle boxes and bring in reserves after the first or second round, 1 at a time it takes a little practice, but this is an awesome game!
