What happens if a general's corps get destroyed completely? Does he escape to a nearby town everytime?

Does anyone know how to play Napoleon's Campaigns on Hot Seat? I watched the video, and Philippe said that there are 3 ways to play with multiplayers.

while I was playing the spainish campaign, i saw the hands of the clock broken, and the hands broke into several parts! i tried to click on it but useless. why??? is it an error?
