There were 10 minor battles. Savannah bombarded for 48 hits, and was hit for 0. Ft. Caswell bombarded the union for 50 hits, and suffered 7 in return. This turn saw the death of many CSA generals: R Taylor. S. Buckner I. Trimble J. Hood H. Heth R. Ewell J. Breckinridge J. Floyd W. Bate G. Doles D. ...

All these suggestions are good for balancing the game via additional options but the vanilla game should always strive to be as historically accurate as possible to attract the historical grognards also. The first AACW game suffered from a minimal choice of player selected gameplay options that per...

For purposes of balance, I would also look at making the Union generals more inept to start, while later generals are more skilled. That's really important, otherwise 9 times out of 10 the game would be completely lopsided in the USA's favor. Also, random traits. They could show up after battles als...

And therein lies the true dilemma for historical strategy game developers. For there has hardly been a conflict in history where the outcome either was or should have been other than 'predictable'. Yet find me a wargamer who wants to play a game that has a predictable outcome. Thats the problem. We...

Yeah, but they still "arrived," in response to the fight, which is my point. I think it's ahistorical not to allow them to arrive. In game it could be represented as a significant penalty equal to what the attacker experiences when he moves giant stacks of divisions without a corps command. Further,...

As it is in all games, you have to trust your opponent in PBEM and if you suspect he's cheating, "Don't Play PBEM with him again'". I'd rather AGEOD spend time perfecting their game engine and historical data then wasting a lot of time with this issue. If it wasn't for the "click a button, back the...

In a larger sense, though, almost no complex game can be made absolutely free of cheating. There's always going to be some way that an inventive player can get into save game files or sneak an extra counter onto the game map or keep two sets of records of the placement of hidden units. If you don't...

One more thing on pbem. Manstein, who's a pretty good multiplayer, brought up the point that the most recent patches sort of regressed multi-player. Because of the lack of a corps system early on the player on the defensive is at a distinct disadvantage as he cannot gather all of his forces to the p...

Just as a matter of idle curiousity (hi Andatiep!) how would one cheat in pbem? Not that I've ever considered it of course...hem, hem... :neener: Seriously, I'd like to have a more transparent process for pbem and also the possibility to play either via local area network or over the internet live....

Jim-NC wrote:That can be worked around with 3rd party hosting (which can consume a lot of time for the hoster - I saw that with the Tournament). But your right, there is that chance.

Yeah, exactly. I'm hoping they remove the necessity for a third party.. somehow.

The biggest thing for me is just working on the multi-player game. Making it as cheat proof as possible. This is a superb game in multi-player with that one little blemish. In the back of your mind you're always uneasy about the host cheating.

What happened in that Little Rock battle? That's an odd result. Sounds like Cai made up for his losses at Norfolk this turn in a big way.

I love the commentary Please keep it up. You know, generals commenting on their actions can be traced all the way back to Julius Caesar: http://etext.virginia.edu/toc/modeng/public/CaeComm.html . I guess that's how they pass the time during down times. :) Also probably gives them a chance to reflect...

Sorry for anyone interested in the outcomes of these games. They're apparently moving along slowly - about turn 6 a week ago. There were some issues with units moving on their own that slowed things down.

No, actually Manstein is correct. That's what ended tournament one so abruptly when Manstein won the grand campaign on turn 17 or so. Anyways, we really appreciate your AAR Jim. Hopefully you can finish that.

Manstein: congrats!

how come you are using 1.13? Does it have any bugs? Do you perhaps use clovis mod? Thanks for the answer and put me down for next tournament Just to maintain consistency and to be honest I haven't had a chance to play test 1.15. That said, if the survivors wanted to upgrade we could. I think they'r...

Congrats and good game, I think we'll just do the first year (24 turns) of the 1863 scenario using 1.13b unless someone has a good reason to switch to 1.15. I know that corps not being available early on is an issue for the GC so it's kind of senseless to switch to 1.15 for one round then back to 1....

Yeah, to be honest I haven't been keeping up on the latest patches. The removal of Corps' a couple patches ago has been problematic for PvPr's of this game as co-assistance of the Southern Corps was its main weapon at stemming the Northern advance and balancing the game a little. As Manstein pointed...

I was wondering why you would'nt go to the 1.15 patch for the semi finals and final?

Our main issue was with the lack of corps and the fact adjacent forces weren't assisting each other as a result. I haven't checked 1.15. How do you feel about that patch?

Posting this under "Ranks" also. 1863 is the 2-theater GC starting in 1863. We'll be playing that for the first year or 24 turns. We know East is unbalanced so we'll see if 1863 is any better. The finals will be the first two years of the regular Grand Campaign. 1861-1863 (48 t...

Designer Round Cancelled.

I notified the players of the following via e-mail... I spoke with Pocus/PhilThib and we've mutually decided to cancel this round. Several of the games had barely gotten past turn one, one hadn't started, and the rest are behind pace. Those of you still involved with games are certainly welcome to f...

If you try a bit you can kind of get the gist of it. Like: "Mon plan de bataille de base est simple " is "My plan of battle is simple." Although beyond that it makes my head hurt. :)

Need replacements for Rafiki

Apparently Rafiki's gone AWOL so if we don't hear from him in the next couple of days we'll need to replace him. We'll need 2 to take on Jim-NC and Redeemer. Anyone can apply by posting here. It's first come first served and a one shot deal. Just a chance to test your metal against some of the survi...
