I don't know why, but I have no problem rereading Supreme Court opinions & delving into the pedigree of the cases; I did pretty good in Physics; I can understand readily why the indefinite integral from zero to infinity of 1/e^[x^2] = [sqrt pi]/2, but reading about Frontage gives me a headache. It'...

IIRC, I used militia as USA to build trenches/fortifications outside key cities like Pittsburgh. Then when Athena sent a force that way, I could RR in a sizable defensive force to move right in to said trenches/fortifications. Haven't played CW2 yet, so don't know if this still works.

An experience with generic river transportation across the Chesapeake: I, as USA, was shipping Gatling guns from, I think, Salisbury to Ft Monroe. They never made it; just disappeared. I found out a couple of game-years later that they had been captured, as I saw their icon on the CSA/AI side of a b...

Full Campaign 1.16 nits

Just completed a full campaign as USA vs. Athena. Here are my nits: 1. After conquering some cities in Louisiana, I hit F6 to start building industry down there. The next turn when I go back to F6, the state is always "empty"--none of the 1, 2, or 3 factory icons I put there the turn before remain. ...

Pillaged Water

Does "pillaged water" represent overfishing? Maybe a BP oil spill that is ablaze? :)

This isn't as bad as the previous turn, when three water regions in the gulf were "pillaged."

Gatlings excellent value for defense of choke points like Harper's Ferry. Gatlings are defensive weapons, but USA is on the attack. Buying too many Gatlings will result in (or from) a "Maginot mentality." [No insult intended to my French brethren here for the reference!]

F1, F2, etc., glitches

Just reinstalled AACW with patch 1.16 Release Candidate 10a. Minor problem: none of my F-keys work. Hitting any of them causes only a brief flash of whatever F-key-related screen should present itself. I say this is "minor" because I have discovered the workaround: I hit Esc to go to the main menu, ...

1. Go where he ain't. (Corollary: when he shows up to outnumber you, leave or dig in heavy.) 2. Go around behind him and cut off his supply. Read an excerpt from a diary of a guy who served aboard a Monitor-class vessel. The sailor said he couldn't imagine why anybody in his right mind would volunteer for such duty. Very taxing physically due to the heat below deck, especially in summer.

Don't forget Tennessee (and even Alabama) had a very large pro-union chunk of territory in the East that rebelled and was put down by Mr. Davis fairly early in the war. The votes to secede in the part of the state failed miserably. The game starts with 100% CSA loyalty there, which is just flat wro...

Henry Clay Fails

An intriguing what-if: Henry Clay fails in one or more of his compromise efforts. This results in the ACW being fought 10 years earlier, 20 years earlier, etc. Fewer RRs. Different generals.
