To be honest, I'm reluctant to think this is a hardware issue. Trust me when I say that my computer is more than capable of running the game--or should be--on its highest settings. The only thing I can think is that my direct X 10 card causes the game to die. But this doesn't seem likely given when ...

Crashes--lots of crashes

Greetings guys, I purchased this game quite a long time ago--maybe a year. I played the game quite a bit until I patched it for the first time, at which point the game would crash quite a bit so I eventually lost interest. So queue about a week ago. I reinstall the game, patch to 1.14 and start play...

Antietam / Sharpsburg raises a whole new series of what-ifs. What if McClellan hadn't dawdled? What if Hooker's initial attack had been directed at the Nicodemus Farm (seizing the weakly held high-ground on Jackson's left) instead of the Dunker Church? What if Stuart and Hampton had been unleashed ...

This interesting discussion veers into the "Lost Cause" myth. It was not inevitable that the north would win its difficult job of total conquest. Southern sympathithers propound the Lost Cause myth to glorify the glorious battlefield exploits of the Army of Northern Virginia. The fact is those vict...

One thing to recall from a "large victory at Gettysburg" scenario is that even given the loss of 1/3 of the Union army, there were plenty of reserves available - looking at the Washington garrison in 1863 shows this. Lincoln had sequestered a reserve there, in part response to the previous year's p...

OK, well Vicksburg was technically an army but it was more like a large corps (33k Confederate) And the force ratio was over 2 to 1 in favor the Union if wikipedia is right (77k Union). Plus, the forces there pretty much allowed themselves to be cut off. I guess I should qualify my statement was th...

I think entire armies being wiped out is pretty optimisitc. It never happened on either side even when the CSA became badly outnumbered. They didn't have any panzer divisions that could breakthough lines and encircle the enemy quickly like in WWII. I don't think you're right. As someone else pointe...

In reality I think that Gettysburg was the Souths only chance to win. There are two great if's here. IF Jackson had not died and IF Lee would have had his costumary zeal and vigor on day one. With Jackson I believe that Lee would have acted different in his aggressiveness. He seemed more aggressive...

Late in the evening after the second day of the Wilderness, Grant (in the privacy of his tent) broke down and wept and "lost it" for a short time. Both he and Lincoln (and Sherman?) knew full well the human cost of the war, and in their own way they too suffered terribly. It's called "moral courage...

I know the Sam Houston and Missouri riot events are based on a die roll. I've never seen cotton for recognition, didn't know there was such an event in the game; but then I've also never seen the Norfolk event not fire. Not sure about the election or Arizona, but I know where to look. I'll get back...

Some events I was wondering about? Does Lincoln ever lose the election of 1864? I had beat the game and continued playing, while in possession of large swaths of Northern territory, Lincoln still manages to win the election. Does France ever actually decide to accept cotton for recognition as the CS...

Ai

Guys, I've just finished my first full play through of the game as the CSA. I must say that I'm disappointed with the game AI. I can't really say the game against the computer was difficult, in any way. The US AI failed to blockade (in both games that I started,) failed to do any amphibious landings...

One thing I don't see...

A couple campaigns in I've noticed something that bothers me a bit. I can have an entrenched army, set on defend that the other player, or AI can just walk around. In some senses this is fine. If an army sees an entrenched enemy, he can choose to try to avoid assaulting a fortified enemy by trying t...

Divisions

I know a bit about the American Civil War, but am not bright on actual military organization. This has lead to some issues for me in regards to divisions and armies. First, I've notice the tool tips suggest there is a "cost" for creating divisions. What exactly is that cost? Second, the number of di...

Question regarding promotions...

Guys, I'm well into my first play through of the campaign and I've got a quick question about promotions. How do they work? I've got a large number of generals that are promotable, yet the promotion icon is greyed out. The tool tip suggests that the general should be in a different stack for a promo...

Yes, he was generally on the offensive, but so was Grant. And Lee had no equivilent to Fort Henry/Donelson, Vicksburg, or even Appromattox. He suffered 38% of all Confed battlefield casualties, while inflicting only 35%, while the rest of the Confed commanders combined did 62%/65%. Was he really th...

Where the hell is the redeployment button? I'm running 1.05, is this a feature that was added in a later patch?

I know there is already a thread on the issue of redeployment, but I've got a more basic question (one which I can't seem to find an answer too). Basically, I want to use this magical redeployment feature so I don't have to have some generals taking months to get to other theatres. I can't figure ou...

Okay, okay, I give up. How exactly does one redeploy generals? I don't see anything about this in the manual, and I'm getting pretty frustrated. Especially since 90% of the generals spawn in Virginia.

Quickly, because I'm a complete noob too, I suggest that you start on the July 1861 campaign. That way you don't have to move units all around the map, and you've got an army more or less in Northern Virgina. As for the rest of it, I'm coming along alright. I let parts of Northern Virgina fall into ...

I am curious as to why exactly its snowing in the middle of Mississippi and in Florida. It doesn't usually snow in those places. Ever. :) Just one of the things I'm noticing on the first play through of the game. Scott edit- Its actually more than snowing in Florida. Apparently there is a Blizzard i...

Scott, I have only ever played the Union. Therefore my experienced is limited in answering most of your questions. However some I can answer. There is nothing that occurs in July 61 to prevent you from merging stacks. The easiest way to merge stacks is to merge the tabs on the bottom screen. Althou...

Guys, So I decided to go ahead and download the whole version of the game. Being the man that I am I quickly jumped straight into the long campaign as the Confederacy. Don't get me wrong, the English is actually quite good.
