I'm by no means an expert on Great Power military intelligence estimates in this period, but I have read several of the relevant texts (among them Paul Kennedy's War Plans of the Great Powers, Ernest May's Knowing One's Enemies, and Terence Zuber's The Real German War Plan) and do not recall getting...

I've only just scratched the surface of the game, but the discussion immediately above raises a question: Why is the player told which war plans all the other major powers have selected? It seems something that the player should have to deduce, adding to the fog of war, particularly for the Central ...

If something could be implemented eventually that allowed for destroying industrial buildings, it would add an important element to economic warfare. The Scorched Earth card, or a similar additional card, would be a fine way to do it.

That's unfortunate. It eliminates what would have been an interesting option for an economic warfare approach to Union strategy.

Can no longer destroy industrial buildings in 1.01RC4

Playing a PBEM game as the Union. I've taken Savannah and was planning to destroy the industry there before withdrawing. However, the function appears to be gone. I find that I cannot destroy industries anywhere, even in my own cities. Was this removed intentionally (which would seem very odd) or is...

Forgive me, as I've not been keeping up with the ongoing developments very well, so perhaps this point has already been raised. But in case it hasn't, here's something I'd love to see implemented in some form. Cotton being a crucial economic factor, not only for the South but for the global economy,...

Forum access/login problem

Could one of the forum admins or moderators please contact me via PM? A friend of mine, who is an existing forum member, cannot seem to login to his account here. He tried to contact the admins directly, but apparently had no success. I have his user name and password. I'm just trying to help him wo...

Anyone get PoN running on Linux yet?

I used the instructions posted for RoP by andatiep ( http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=17146 ), since they were the most recent I could find. I'm running Ubuntu Natty with the Wine package from the Ubuntu Software Center, which includes Winetricks. The game installed OK, but after what app...

The link that shows up when you mouse over the button clearly shows the filename ( WW1_Gold_GM_Multi.exe ) at the end of a long string of other information. Something in the naming structure is likely corrupt.

I've been looking forward to this one. Just placed my order, but I have been unable to successfully download it. Clicking the "Download" button does nothing in Firefox and tells me the page is unavailable in Opera and IE. I've emailed Nexway for assistance - hopefully they come through quickly.

Your option for liquidation is to not choose the embargo. :) The money the embargo costs is the average loss of income you're giving up for not selling your cotton. I'd like to see it be a bit more variable in costs. At the start of the war, there simply wan't a lot of cotton to sell. It was spring...

There are several considerations involved here as I see it, but ultimately the problem is creating a simulation that is on the one hand sufficiently historically accurate to satisfy the audience for such simulations, while at the same time remaining accessible and enjoyable. As much as many wargamer...

I've both run and played in PBEM tournaments for the Combat Mission games over the years. IMHO, the trick is making sure that the system is balanced. In the case of AACW, that would require mirror games, with each player being host for half of the games they play. The length of the games makes it se...

What are the lines of different color that radiate out from a unit, when you press the "shift" key? These lines indicate the nature of the links to adjoining regions, for that unit. For example, a light blue line indicates that the unit will have to cross a river to move to that region; a brown lin...

No number two--writer busy playing AACW. 8. When you girlfriend asks you to get up and go to the store, you begin your argument with a discus...
