Re: Memory in the settings

16 gigs. I will try the manual fix and see what it does. Not having too many problems. Just occasional crashes which really feel random. Can't find any pattern but they are infrequent.

Re: Memory in the settings

I assume you are talking about the Memory Usage option under Systems. This option only allows me to use the far-left setting (10% of memory I think). If I change the setting it just goes back to 10%. Is this normal or I am misunderstanding what you guys are discussing?

Re: Questions

I think I have figured the answers to my questions one and two above. 1. But I still have some questions on the blockade. The only port I am trying to blockade right now is the Richmond port and the ports around it. I have the necessary number of ships in the Coastal Waters and the James Estuary. Th...

Questions

Making an attempt to learn this system and have a couple of questions (probably more to come). :) 1. What are Special Units and Elite Units? Elite units are a type of Replacement and are mentioned in the forums as being important to include in any division. I am just not sure what they are. I know s...

Re: Construction Capability

Thanks for the help. Just bought 6 transports and put them in 6 different ports - some with Naval Yards, some with ship yards and some just regular harbors. Didn't seem to make any difference. Build time was all the same.

Construction Capability

Construction Capability. Can't find anything in the manual. Only one old post in the forums which was relatively inconclusive. Does it have any bearing on constructing units? I see the numbers in cities but see no correlation to units being built. I assume it restricts the number of units that can b...

Re: Promoting Leaders

Thanks Gray Fox. Last night I promoted a two star Grant in his role as a corps commander without removing him but later had to move a division commander in an army out of the stack to promote. Guess I will just have to play around with it some more.

Promoting Leaders

To promote a leader do you have to remove him from the stack? I have read the messages about a leader having a promotion, gone to his stack and seen his name flashing, clicked on the promotion button, but nothing seems to happen. Nothing in the manual about it and not a lot on the forums. Old posts ...

Flatboats and Supply Depots

I feel like I created a Supply Depot earlier in the game with a flatboat with 4 elements. I am now in June of 1862 and am trying to use flatboats to make some depots down the Mississippi but it seems no matter what I do the icon for creating flatboats is greyed out. I tried some areas where I had mi...

Re: Activation and Leadership Penalties

So if I am hearing you right, you think it is possible for the effects of inadequate command points coupled with inactive leaders to rise above the 35% limit? In other words one effect might add on to the other? That is how I read it but was not sure.

Thanks for replying.

Re: Activation and Leadership Penalties

Thanks for the reply. I thought that might be the answer. Poor choice of words on my part in regards to units being in command. Should not have been units but stacks.

Again Thanks

Activation and Leadership Penalties

I am having trouble wrapping my head around these two rules. Leadership penalties are shown in the Inspection Panel in the lower right portion of the screen (I think). Inadequately led Units suffer movement and combat penalties (from the manual). I assume this up to a maximum of 35%. Activation pena...

Re: Couple of questions

Again Thanks!!

In our other post you mentioned "locking units" and you mention again here. Is that the act of right clicking on a unit to make the lock icon occur? I thought this was just to prevent units from being merged. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks Gray Fox. I really appreciate your help. I am determined to learn this game! Tried the American revolution game years ago and never got anywhere with it. Re: Couple of questions

First of thanks and sorry this is so late. Repairing rails: makes sense about militia/volunteer. Never looked at the type of unit doing the repair. Is time a factor? In other words do you have to spend a certain number of days in region to complete the repair? Merchants and transports: that makes co...

Couple of questions

Cannot get a handle on how to repair railroads. Other times the repair button is grayed out when I go to set up a units move into a region with a d...

Postures and Blockades

Just bought the game and really trying to work through all its rules. Most all my questions I have found answers to in these forums. I also bought To End All Wars and I am hoping the game engine is very similar. Meaning if I learn this the learning curve on TEAW should be pretty easy. Anyway my ques...

U-Boat Question

Have been rereading the rules for WWIG and as I mostly play the Entente have a question. How do U_Boats work for the CP? What I mean is that when you purchase them do they automatically join the the submarine war (assuming Germany has taken the political action submarine warfare) or do you have to p...
