Crashes, lags, unplayable...

I have the exact same problems described below. I have the downloaded version, have installed both patch 1.07a and 1.07b and have experimented with the settings until I'm blue in the face (or more correctly: red :p leure: ). It's a truly great game but what does it take to make the damned thing WORK...
