What is the reason for river transports? I can be sitting in Cairo and move to any place along the river without them so why do I need them? I imagine this river movement probably represents barges and such as opposed to the stern wheeler transports. So why do I need the actual transport ships? And...

Backup Procedures

Greetings, I have been involved in several PBEM games in which for some reason (probably user error!) I send the Confederate .trn file to my opponent, he sends back his .ord file and I execute the turn. I find that none of my moves were executed, but all of the Reb moves execute. 1. Does anyone know...

I have noticed that if you select the supply overlay on the lower left of the GUI (you will then see cannon balls and crates stacked up next to cities, representing levels of stockpiles) before you execute a turn, you can observe how the levels increase and decrease graphically as the supply phase i...

First one is posture (passive in this case). Second is that the unit is either pursuing an enemy or linking up with a friendly unit. Third is that the unit is set to evade enemies. I thought second one was "no forced march allowed"....no? I've always thought it strange to see on ship units...would ...

I've noticed that unit training does not appear to work now (it used to) in patch 1.07b. I've had units stacked with both little Mac and Halleck for several turns, but no messages about units being trained. Jim I concur...however, some militia units NOT stacked with Mac or Halleck are now getting t...

To pay or not to pay...

...the NM and Victory point cost for making Grant an Army commander. He's behind Butler, Banks, MacDowell, McClellen and Halleck (well, I guess two of those already have commands). I'm not raising NM at a very high rate right now, so the hit could take a while to recover from...OTOH, having Grant in...

Bringing in the War Supplies from overseas...

...is there any way to increase? Initially, I get messages for fairly healthy doses of supplies (10-20 War Supplies per turn), then it seems to steadily dwindle. I'm not changing anything with my transport fleet or it's "raider chasers" so I assume raiders are cutting into my amount of War Supplies ...

How large is the garrison? I've only played Union twice into '62, but both times a force led by Grant took it immediately by assault. Both times, there was only the standard, small garrison. Maybe it was reinforced? I'm starting a PBEM as CSA, and defending that place is a high priority. I would lo...

Move into the fort's region in attack or defensive posture. Use a division with 3 or 4 good artillery batteries. Seige the fort until you create a breach. Then assault. Have supply wagons available for the besiegers, in case the process takes more than two turns. so i can initiate a seige while in ...

...which he apparently did in early Feb '61 (Henry and Donaldson). How exactly does one assault a river fort? Do you simply move across a river and assault it? Can you move by river transport and assault it the same turn? I tried moving Grant and his corps down the river to the river "region" adjace...

Recreating the surrender of New Orleans?

How is it accomplished by April '62? How many units does it take? Scott never commanded a field army in the American Civil War. He starts the game locked at Washington, basically he is there for 'flavour' to show that he really is the top general in command of Union forces, but doesn't really "do" anything. That's fine...it would be nice to know before hand that ...

Can't make W.Scott Army Commander?

Greetings, I'm in the early July turn of the grand campaign game (v1.6). I have 2 or 3 generals around Washington that are 3 star generals. I can move the army HQ unit into a stack with them and I can form an Army. However, when I move the same army HQ to join with Scott, I'm told that I can't form ...
