Rosin the Beau = 338 Sawyer's Exit

The tune Rosin the Beau on the sound track came on and I realized that I recognized it. It was adapted as a shape note (aka Sacred Harp) tune which I had sung a few weeks ago at my local shape note singing. For those not familiar, shape note singing is a tradition that began in colonial America. It ...

Union Army demographic and economic data site

http://www.uadata.org/

It is mostly pretty dry, you can get extracts in spreadsheet form.

My claim to fame is the site recently moved to a server I help administer. If you find anything that does not work right please let me know.

Mines are like Orbital Lasers in Fortress America: they fire first, sometimes they miss, but when they hit they have a huge effect on the upcoming battle. And they can be used anywhere on the map. They are cer...

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?34021-design-philosophy-on-regional-decisions My concern is that some regional decisions are overpowered, others are dubiously historical, and others are just plain busywork. It is certainly true that in PBEM one can adopt house rules about which to allow, ...

If I had to hazard a guess, it was set to 5 in order to make the Far West Scenario work, and then failed to get changed back when the FW scenario was back-ported into the main campaign, or something like that.

How do you get the replay?

I have searched the manual and the forums for how to get the "console" so I can type loadreplay, with no success. Also there was something about having to load it first. If someone could post reasonably clear instructions that would be a big help. Thanks.

Well, I think the main problem is there is no consideration of things beyond one space away. In the case of naval battles, unless there happens to be a port adjacent to where you are fighting, what difference is there between one stretch of water and another? According to that algorithm, none. There...

venting about retreats

When next you have some free developer time, please put some effort into making retreats work more sensibly. Playing as the Union, I had a fleet in Hampton Roads. My clever PBEM opponent brought a large fleet of ironclads from somewhere and beat them up. The remnants of my fleet then retreated into ...

Well, making strong statements is a fun way to get a discussion going. Why not. 1. No way of really knowing what settings your opponent is using. 2. No way of preventing changes in the settings once the game is underway. As I understand it, the only settings that matter are the ones the hosting play...

missing connection Archer Young, TX - Jack, TX

Trying to move from Archer Young to Jack, I get routed through Wichita, TX. I can also see that there is no link when I use the shift key with my stack in Archer Young selected.

Yes, I invaded Texas with 4 divisions.

one thing many people do not know is that almost 80% of all 'combats' were between just a few combatants. And that of all the combats, most were not recorded battles. Partisans required more than an army's worth of troops to keep the railroad open. This is a fair point. However, I don't think the c...

Play with Historical Attrition ON. Then you get Replacements at Depots only

I am under the impression that you can still recover *hits* on damaged elements, its just reconstituting entirely destroyed elements of a surviving brigade that requires a depot.

Hm. So it sounds like folks think Loyalty is pretty valuable, for a bunch of reasons, but Victory Points are not that big a deal? So paying 3VP for Habeas Corpus is a good deal?

Develop certainly seems like a good deal, you get both VP and loyalty for very little money.

design philosophy on regional decisions?

Is there a posting somewhere from the devs on what the design philosophy was behind the regional decisions? Some of them seem reasonable; some really add a lot to the game, but most I am dubious about. The ones I like: build redoubt, build stockade, build depot. Build depot as a regional decision in...

division surrendered but no message

In a PBEM as USA I lost a battle. I had one division. It seems to have taken 97 hits out of 123 from enemy fire and then the rest surrendered. I have 2 suggestions / bug reports. 1. As you can see from the screen shot, the cohesion symbol (grid with a plus sign) obscures the -122 that is the number ...

While on this file, as I pointed out in the other thread, there is City Point and Suffolk also on the James River behind Ft Monroe. Possibly City Point is not listed because (according to the list in that thread) it has no blockade-effect value anyway, but Suffolk should in principle be included.

I would hazard a guess that it only applies to the CSA because a port being blockaded in this way is only relevant for blockade percentage purposes, not for any other use of the port. Which is still a bug, but there it is. I think I read in another thread somewhere someone complaining that they were...

Browsing the data folders, I found a file called USADistantBlockades, which does indeed seem to define ports that are blockaded by specific "distant" forts being enemy controlled. This is amazingly useful information. Looking at the unit tooltips, I see that Blockade Ships (which you can only get inside a Blockade Squadron) have a Blockade Value of 10 - which is why 6 of them + a few more from the other two ships = 67. Brigs on the other hand have a Blockade Value of 2, so th...
