Re: Is this forum dead ?

I find FOGE refreshing. For combat, I prefer FOG2. I bought it because it was a 25% discount bundle and interfaces with with FOGE. However, FOG2 is a very rich game in its own right. I thought I would hate FOG2 due to TBS, but it has one of the best UIs I have seen, and can flow very fast. It convey...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

Empires was in a few ways closer to some things Philippe Thibaut did before AGEOD was founded. * EU1: He was the author of the boardgame and on the PDS team porting their very first game that would build the franchise. But at that time, the venture was not Paradox. * GI aka Great Invasion published ...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

People just move on. Over year ago I played some of Rome's battles. I am not sure how would do in the ACW games. As command and supply are fairly simple in AJE. I have the new Empires game. Combat resolution is not as sophisticated as AGE, but it is much more clearly presented to the player. In AGE,...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

Pardon for not be able to greet you properly in Russian! I am happy to greet you. I have the full set of AJE games and the 2 US civil war games. I think this engine and company was/is fantastic. (full disclosure: former member) I have the above installed, and I hope to find time to play some more. F...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

MarkShot, Good to hear from you. It has been awhile. I do not come here that often. I am still in Scotland as we go into our second lockdown. I hope you will be safe. In 2012, we retired to greater China (aka Taiwan). We live up in the mountains, and rarely leave. The fiction of a perfect island vi...

Steve, Good to see you. How are the Lakes? I hardly come here. Just Pocus pointed me here the other day. I remembering maybe 25 years ago a trip I took to Lake Placid with my wife. We got a canoe from the hotel, and was out on the water in the early hours of the morning. There was this thin mist fro...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

Speaking of Philippe Thibaut ... I always look at PDS. Just checked yesterday. Top 100 Steam games: EU4 HOI4 CS Never forget where the original EU1 came from or who was part of that development team. Life is not always fair. Greatness is not always rewarded. But there are those who truly know when w...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

Ave! I was playing some AJE a while back. I do think it is a great engine, and unlike Empires; AJE (I have all) is less Sandbox and more history. I hope to one day play through all the AJE scenarios. I also have both ACW1 and ACW2 installed, but have never really played, but would like too. I have b...

Re: On the F2-Recruit screen - what does the big L mean?

Pocus, My warmest greetings! I am so happy that I have found time to play AGE games. I love the engine and what it models: supply, weather, campaigning season, fatigue ... I have finally invested enough time to be able to decode the battle reports. I do think FOGE is brilliant too. But still it is n...

Re: On the F2-Recruit screen - what does the big L mean?

Okay, here is what I think. The big green L means that you have reached the limit of the build capacity for the province. Like I have 4 naval units being built in Syracusea to complete over the next four turns in sequence. I had cash to yet build more, but that province would not show green. So, it ...

Re: On the F2-Recruit screen - what does the big L mean?

If I recall correctly that means the unit is arleady on the map ( L aid) but not fully finished yet. I will try to reproduce it tonight. Regards I have been looking for big L's. I am playing the Roman Civil War Caesar vs Pompeii (as Caesar). I have had plenty of units unlocked, but their stats stil...

I know what you are talking about. And I think they will unlock only if they are end up in battle.

They are fairly weak forces and march in lead boots.

I find their main value is mustering in the log so that I know that I should go take a look see.

Re: Why remove soldier count?!

When I saw BOA, I objected to the abstraction of hits versus real world resources. It was the legacy of BG. People intuitively think of things they know. For the ancient world 50,000 was a big army. An army of 100,000 - 200,00 was one of the largest ever fielded. (like the Persians) Besides lower gl...

Re: Loving it!

I got it, you prefer history to sandboxing. Many years ago, I used to play EU2, and despite historical events, if you play long enough, the world will bear no resemblance to what really took place. However, history's real what-ifs are fascinating: * What if Alexander didn't die so young? * What if C...

Yes, sorry for the stupid question.

I see.

Perhaps, it is documented somewhere and I missed it. Under short cut keys, DEL is just cancel the last leg.

Thanks!

How to cancel a unit requested or RGM?

I believe other games in the same turn you can right click in the Production Ledger Page, but seemingly not in this game. Once selected, you are committed.

Thanks!

Re: Having trouble with Spartacus

I have a suspicion about this one as a major victory is very dependent on retreat logic. My guess is that this scenario wasn't regression tested. In the final round of AGE1 and AGE2 updates, Pocus made quite a few changes for retreat behavior. In general, what he did was to make the behavior more lo...

Having trouble with Spartacus

First, it seem unlike standard scenarios, holding the objective cities does not win. You must destroy the slaves. Spartacus' army is very hard to destroy. In this engine armies don't fight to the death, and they will ultimately retreat. Is it certain with v1.05 and ZOC/retreat options that in this s...

I thought that's what the prayer to the Almighty is for?

I still get a kick out of the general speeches in Rome 1. The speeches in Shogun 2 are not bad, but not as varied.

Well, I finally had a more offensive game. I didn't really win any bigger than playing defense, but I saw the suburbs of Richmond. :) Did manage tear up some rails. Re: Have battle, I do not understand the outcome.

Thank you. I understand your points. I am, in fact, limited; as this is the "Seeing the Elephant" scenario. A good sandbox. Now, I can easily win 60:30 by just hunkering down and defending Washington. But foolish me, I want to FIGHT. I did a very different reorganization of my forces. I lo...

Yes, thanks. I will post some screenshots and zip of save game if possible. I was playing around with it quite a bit last night. Nothing I could do with the force or the battle planner would win the battle. Also, what does it mean to win a battle? For example: If I have, 30,000 and the enemy has 15,...

Have battle, I do not understand the outcome.

I have a battle I am going into 2X power, but no matter what battle options I chose, I always lose. But I don't understand why. It is version 1.06. Would anyone be willing to look at my save game and run the battle and tell me why? (I might need to included screenshots of my game options as well.) T...
