Re: The Recipe Thread

Hi folks, I thought as we have people from around the world here it might be a good chance to share simple food recipes (yeah I know a bit odd but what the hell). I wish I had known this at 20 :- Hobbes Chicken. Roll some good chicken legs (free range/corn fed) in flour with some salt and pepper. F...

Re: Does this mean the AGE engine style of game is gone?

The SGS games have a similar look but not as nice as the old AGEOD games. I have bought a couple but haven't played them much at all. The AI doesn't seem to be very highly regarded. I might try a PBEM of Heia Safari at some point as it's a conflict I have had interest in for some time.

Cheers,
Chris

Re: Does this mean the AGE engine style of game is gone?

Everything passes but for me it is a great shame. I loved the old AGEOD 2D graphics. What more does one need? Give me a beautiful looking board game rather than annoying 3D with the always awkward camera angles. I miss Sandra's lovely graphics.

Re: Command Point penalties

This is the first time I have seen Bohémond's mod. I assume it was never completed? I feel his pain. AJE is not an easy game to mod. It should be easier. A lot easier. I still have nightmares! I saw the Aurelian YouTube video and have put it into a place to watch "one day" :) When I go to ...

Re: Merry Christmas!

All the best folks. I'm a bit late so I will wish you all a Happy New Year! Durk and I have started playing the tactical Field of Glory game after he beat me at AGEOD's ECW. I keep buying games and not playing them after reading the rules for weeks. I still intend to play them all. I feel that I get...

King William's War

Hi Folks, I have wondered how the King William's War scenario would play out as a slightly more aggressive French side vs the British. The French should probably play a defensive game but I'm intererested to see how it would turn out playing in a different way. I don't remember the scenario too well...

Re: Command Point penalties

Thanks Nikel. I thought it was just an age thing with me. Even though I'm a computer programmer by profession things seem to get more difficult to work out as one gets older - although I also think that is partly to do with losing touch and not being as arsed to work things out anymore :)

Re: 1775 scenario help as Americans

Thanks Durk (although I'm trying to avoid tips :) ) I thought taking Boston might make the AI retreat to try and retake.
Winter now - not sure what I'll do come the thaw.

Re: Command Point penalties

Naturamix has posted a few inline images fairly recently in the CW2 AAR forum so maybe there is still some way of doing it. It's certainly not obvious how to manage it though. A shame, as posting images used to help keep the forum alive.

Re: Tooltip delay

Let me check with the Archon developer if there is a system setting somewhere ... Personally tooltips are vital for me, so that they are instant are expected. I don't want to wait 2 seconds each time to verify an information. But clearly there are two school of thoughts here. Hi Philippe, I just sa...

Re: 1775 scenario help as Americans

P.S. I'm thinking of attempting to retake Boston with a naval force as Athena doesn't seem to have maintained much of a presence there. This may be suicidal but if I attempt it I will post the outcome. This is a very odd thread as I don't want to read most of it.

Re: 1775 scenario help as Americans

I quickly scanned a few comments and then decided I didn't want to read any further as I don't want to get any insight on how to beat the AI. I thought I would have an easy time but from the few comments I saw, I'm now expecting the game to be a little more difficult than I expected. I'm in August 1...

Re: 1775 scenario help as Americans

I wish I could give some advice but I am currently in early 1776 in the 1775 scenario (I'm playing as rebels) and I have never played against the AI before in this scenario. So far so good - but I fear a wave of British reinforcements arriving. I'll let you know how my game goes - but it may take me...

Penalized leader

Hi folks, after playing this wonderful game for so many years there are still things that I don't understand well. For example, how are leaders penalized when moving out of a territory if they have a departmental trait? For instance a northerner (I've just noticed the trait flashes when moving out o...

Re: Anyone still playing this? If so, questions.

Hi folks, I managed to beat the AI in the F&IW. I thought I would try a full 1775 or 1776 scenario against the AI. I assume none are too difficult vs AI but can anyone recommend the one I might have the most difficulty with - either the 1775 or 1776 campaigns playing as American or British? Than...

Re: Command Point penalties

Sorry Smooth. If I was sitting next to you I'm sure I could figure out the problem but from here it is very difficult to do.
The AI options are obvious - but you've looked at them so I can't think what the problem could be.

Let us know if you manage to fix it!

Chris

Re: Command Point penalties

Seriously, thank you for sharing. I know your work was a labor of love, and I love the scenarios you have added. Re: Command Point penalties

Hi Smooth, If you have all the correct settings I don't know why you are seeing this problem. What scenario are you playing and how many turns have you played? What are you seeing that makes you think the AI is inactive? No movement at all from the AI?

Cheers,
Chris

Re: Command Point penalties

P.S. I spent three years trying to make the Aurelian scenario for AJE. I had a lot of problems with the game and some in life. But the main reason I had to give up on it was that I could never get the bloody barbarians to attack as they would have done historically. That was so frustrating. I though...

Re: Command Point penalties

It's a great game and so many things can be changed to suit a player. I've recently started playing Lock N Load and the first thing that struck me is that I hate the way the screen scrolls. With the AGEOD games you can just edit a file to change that to be exactly how you like it. I got spoilt by th...

Re: Command Point penalties

Hi Durk, yes it would have to be restricted to a certain number of regions from a certain area - but probably not workable. I once had another idea about being able to create tracks in a region - also not workable for various reasons. If nothing else every idea like this would give a human player ye...

Re: Command Point penalties

Going back to my first posts. Rather than just dumping questions, also an observation. It seems strange that Indians don't have the same local area restrictions that militia do. You certainly wouldn't expect Indian tribes to move too far away from home? I also don't think they should be able to be t...

Re: Anyone still playing this? If so, questions.

Reading your reply again I'm getting confused. Are you referring to the game's activation rule? (I'm getting rusty).
And what do you mean by keeping the best commanders out from under the senior staff? Out in what way? To keep them on the battlefield?

Cheers,
Chris
