Re: Actual city supply and province loyalty again.

On page 13 of my manual, there is a discussion of how declining national morale decreases production and supply: a 5% production decline per each 10-unit decline in national morale. OK, that's clear. Then on the next line we have the statement "NB Production is directly affected by region loyal...

Re: Actual city supply and province loyalty again.

I think there might be more to it. The basics of supply seem to be: multiply the tooltip value by 5 and keep the total stack consumption below that number. But I've got a bunch of starvin' marvin Parthians telling me the numbers don't add up. :pleure: Is it possible that terrain matters too? The des...

Re: Lay-down sallies

Yes, thanks. I realize that I have always operated under the belief that besieged forces were trapped in the city. Not sure where I got that idea from but it does seem to be wrong. Does that mean that besieged forces can always try to escape? If I drag a stack into the province, and it fi...

Lay-down sallies

If I'm besieged and I want my guys in the city to sally out :dada: to support a relief army, do I have to set their posture to anything special as well as clicking the special order button? Obviously not green/green, but I was um... surprised... :pleure: in my latest game to find some of my guys sal...

Actual city supply and province loyalty again.

Oh dear... a couple of interesting things happening in my latest game. :bonk: The supply available from a city is reported in the tooltip but *actual* supply is reduced if my side's loyalty in that province is low but that reduction is not reflected in the tooltip. So for city X, tooltip supply numb...

Marching to the sound of the ballistae

There's one very important point that I suspect I still don't quite get. If I have (say) 3 stacks in a province, all on blue/blue and one enemy stack on orange/* enters the province, which stack does it attack? All three, or one? If one, which one? If I want maximum force in a province do I make one...

Re: Destroyed units and supply lines questions

That's my approach - play the AI first. If I can't do OK there, a real player will probably wipe the floor with me. The other problem is just getting familiar with the scenarios - especially the geography, supply points etc. I could probably play CW2 without too much preparation because I know Richm...

Re: Destroyed units and supply lines questions

The further down the Euphrates that Rome goes the harder it gets. Playing the Parthian side at the moment I'm building river boats to move supply up-river and then overland to my field armies. BTW I've just found an online club that plays these games PBEM. That works really well. LOL, I bought half ...

Re: Destroyed units and supply lines questions

The Parthian scenarios are a supply challenge for both Rome and Parthia. Another gotcha seems to be that newly captured provinces with low loyalty to your side don't generate supply at the rate advertised on the tooltip. Regional loyalty and national morale influence the actual supply output of a p...

Re: How to destroy Mack in Ulm?

So that great slaughter was the result of a single battle and Mack didn't retreat into a neighbouring province? It is a shame that the pictures have disappeared. There's so much useful information for all the AGEOD games in these forums. Narwhal certainly deserves some sort of medal for his contribu...

How to destroy Mack in Ulm?

I'm following the Austerlitz playthrough "A Walk-Through Tutorial (Austerlitz 1805)" http://www.ageod-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=138&t=7475 which is very useful in learning the game. But some key pictures seem to be missing, alas. My basic question concerns how to set up Napoleon and hi...

Postures for an army and its corps

I've worked my way through the posts in this forum which have answered various questions from my first attempts at Austerlitz. But one thing I'm definitely not clear on. If I concentrate Napoleon and the Grande Armée, plus the Guard, plus several corps in a location, and I want them all to assault s...

Unrecognized symbol on unit markers

I've just played my first NC game - the Austerlitz scenario. Unfortunately Mack failed to get beaten... but never mind, Having read through this forum I can see I've misunderstood a couple of things about army/corps and synchronized movement. I'll have another go at it. Meanwhile I see there is a sy...

Fair enough although poor old Vitellius shed a more than a few kilos of weight before I could rescue him. :crying:

Sieges and river ports

An interesting observation from my Year of the 4 Emperors game. As Vitellius I have several cities along the Rhine, some with ports onto the river. But when they are besieged, the city's supply goes to zero. This seems to be different to coastal cities with ports where the seaport provides some supp...

Re: Why do I have supply here?

I was mainly concerned that I might have misunderstood a game mechanic, or how the supply system works. My 95% military control of the countryside gives me a small amount of supply but I need to take the city to get serious supply is my understanding. I went back and read Narwhal's excellent Beginne...

otherwise known as a bug? That's OK; I write software for a living so I'm sure I've put plenty of bugs out there in my time. I'll go back to figuring out how to take Otho and Vespasian down. Hi all. Back playing AJE again after a break and having fun with the four emperors... :dada: A quick question based on the screen shot linked below. So yes indeed it is a hard strategy to play, not fighting Caesar until your units are trained fighting his allies, but in my view, it is the only way to win as Pompey. Yes indeed it is a hard strategy which is why I'm starting to really enjoy these games. A damn fine system you've created. I can se...

Hi delcastel Yes, national morale is very important in battles. In this case, but, my national morale is higher than Caesar's as you can see from the attached picture. Caesar's too strong!

Hi all I need some clues on how to adjust my army composition based on the 'battle report' data given by the game. As you can see from the attached pictures my Pompeian 24k man army got whacked by Caesar's 10k man army. :cuit: But why exactly? I can see that I was up against a better general and tha...

Is it possible to improve the fortification level of a walled city? So if city "X" has a level ("size") 1 fort, how do I get it up to size 2 and higher? I'm guessing the answer is "no" but I thought I'd check. The fortification level does not seem related to the size of...
