Re: Frank Underwood's Quote

Grant saw what the Union's strengths were, including the political context, and used them. He became commander of all US Army forces in March, 1864. One year later, it was over. Coincidence? Methinks not . Grant had zero political power and got the top because he also convinced POTUS and the JCCoTW...

@grimjaw What's Hearts of Iron IV like? I remember buying HOI3 with great excitement only for that excitement to evaporate within a few hours of playing it. Quite frankly I thought HOI3 was complete bollocks; so much so that I turned to Darkest Hour, which, besides almost absolutely predictable AI,...

Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

As noted, the south may have initially had an advantage due to the larger percentage of West Point graduates in their ranks and the strength of the militia tradition across the south. Maybe not such an advantage at all; I believe Maj. Gen. George Pickett said, "The Yankees got all the smart on...

question and larger picture are the same, how to measure combat superiority. Grant in 40 days to lees is what i posted. How to meausure superiority of combatents. one way is to compare what a commander has in resources, and what he removes from the enemies resources compared with the cost of his own rersources. Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

Try using maths to answer who had a qualitive advantge in a battle or campaign, easier to argue about then. math, math,math....hmmm..how can you use it for anything so compes like battle ? if by math you meaned sheer numbers of troops, weapons, etc, it isnt that simple, you need to consider terrain...

Re: Landing Penalities Too Harsh?

These are several reasons about no possible retreat in an opposed landing. One is that the specific code was never fully working so was abandoned. Also, game balance, we don't want the Union to be too bold with opposed landing, as this was not the practice of the time. Opposed landing was, correct ...

Ran into a nice little analysis done on the logistics of the Pea Ridge campaign. http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA623051 Major Bailey does a good job of laying out the challenges and how they were overcome. "Draft animals added to the logistical problem of an army. Animals had to eat...

Re: Combat Tactics

Read on these forums that the smoke created by powder weapons made the ranges on a lot of these era firearms worthless. So after a few volleys you got in pretty close to shoot or you probably wouldn't see or hit anything. Is that actually true? Also since I read Badge of Courage(untrained men, run)...

They also procured and issued for service 197000 horses, 120000 mule...

Re: Artillery: In or Out?

Why Fodder? If you simply increase the amount of GS for example a cavalry unit requires per turn, plus their capacity to carry GS so that they can remain in the field the same number of turns without picking up additional GS, 2 turns, you will make them into small fast supply units. I did a quick a...

Let's go back to the logistics. Does game logistics system minorizes living off the land and overemphasizes the ability to carry supplies with wagons? Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

The mules pulled wagons. The wagons were loaded with food for the army...and food for the mules. The mules had to eat on the way out and the way back. The longer the journey, the smaller the portion of the load was for the army. At a certain distance, the wagon would only be full of food for the mu...
