Belgian Questions

Upon starting up PON the other day, I was struck with the impulse to play Belgium, seeing as it is a nation I have often overlooked myself. However, I have only just begun playing the game recently, and I wonder if there's enough to do as Belgium to enjoy the game, especially as I mostly play Ageod ...

War and Peace Questions

Hello and good afternoon! I've been trying to figure out the pros/cons of annexation. To whit: I once played a long term Spain game against the AI. Rather than ever suing for peace with my enemies- a la Portugal and the US, I simply continue to be at war with them while holding their territories. By...

I could take a stab at it. I'm not very good, though, I have to warn you. Like, I've played exclusively AI; but if you want a chance to do really well against the Union, I'm game. When were you thinking of starting and how often would you like/expect a turn?

Save Load Error

Hello and good afternoon, I've been playing TYW a bit this past week, but when I click load, the game I am currently playing is nowhere to be found. I lost the game once already this week after I got to February 1620 and closed for the day. When I clicked on Load, it sent me to the save game files a...

Army Reform Question

Hello! It's been a while since I last played, and I was just trying to determine how the Corps reform triggers. I usually play Spain and keep good relations with France, and so have never been invaded by a major power. I have an excess of resources due to expansion. Do I need to get France to invade...

I think these are pretty interesting ideas! But I do have a related question on PBEM etiquette. It seems like a lot- but most certainly not all- of these arrangements could be handled by emailing respective players and promising them certain things in exchange for support. I.e., (and poor example he...

I would agree with you on your stance with Spain in regards to their relationship with France, but in this game there are quite a few points to be gained by taking Gibraltar and Malta from the British, which is a not inconsiderable reason for the Spanish to want to fight Britain- albeit in a limited...

It seems we must disagree! I'm unconvinced that because it wasn't taken before it couldn't be taken then with more resources directed at its destruction. But I am not a soldier or an engineer. Nonetheless, whoever is right or not, it would be interesting to hear the developers' opinions on this. I'm...

A Question on Annexation

I remember reading from earlier posts that with enough war score, any enemy province bordering one of yours with 20% Loyalty to you, or more, or any enemy province with 20% loyalty or more to you can be annexed. However, I invaded the USA in 1807 in the GC, and have 30% loyalty from New York and the...

I'm opposed to this. Gibraltar was never actually besieged in the Napoleonic Wars, to my knowledge, and though its fortifications and its reputation are impressive, that is no substitute for what might have been. It's easy to assume the outcome, but it's still conjecture until it's proven. Gibraltar...

I myself am inclined to agree that something is off with the casualties. I do love having decisive battles now and again, but I am curious if something is making the French force bloodier battles on themselves and others. I'm no expert at the game and so I may be wrong, but I have not heard of such ...

I have never had neutral troops enter Spanish soil before, so I think that may be a bug. Just to ask, does Russia have any treaties with France? That might possibly be the reason they're there but it seems unlikely... As to replacements with foreign ships I can't see why they can't get replacements....

If you don't mind me asking, who were the belligerents? Was one of them France? In the scenarios as France I was able to maul my enemies and myself with high casualties, but as Spain in the GC fighting minor nations I find it takes time for a decisive battle.

Well, to clarify the only comments about high casualties I have found appear to be related to France; either fighting as them or against them. I am curious if it's related to France's better leaders or a more general problem. As Spain, most of my battles were not battles of extermination, but I did ...

Out of curiosity, do you have an example with leaders and nations? In my game, the casualties seem to be pretty reasonable factoring in that most of mine come after seiges against low cohesion and supply units that I imagine my troops are massacring. The highest casualties from any single combat I w...

Oh no, I agree it's probably a bug! I'm just saying that I think the reason why the AI is so sluggish as GB is that they have so much of a navy that the AI gets either bogged down or considers high losses due to poor supply acceptable. I have no idea why that fleet is there. In my game I haven't bee...

For what it's worth it's late 1807 in a game of mine and the British are stationed off my coasts en masse with their best admiral apparently rotting away with no supplies. I think it has to do with the fact that there really isn't much competition for the British navy, and with an over abundance of ...

The Navy AI seems to have some problems. In my game as Spain, GB leaves its large navies criminally under supplied, including an entire large navy under Nelson outside the Atlantic edge of Gibraltar. I was able to smash a few British fleets in reverse-Trafalgar situations that has now left me with t...

The games certainly share a lot of mechanics, but both feel very differently. The 7 day turn was a big adjustment for me, though, since CW2 was my first Ageod game. Roughly, everything that applies for CW2 should apply, barring some exceptions I'm still learning. Defensive posture in the field seems...

I think it'll be a while to get there for anyone, but if it's like previous titles, like Civil War 2, you can always keep pressing the turn button and carrying on, though as I've never really done that I can't speak to how the AI handles playing past the turn limit. Still, I don't think it'd be a pr...

Ultimately, and while I may be alone in this opinion, I think there's no real substitute for the Grand Campaigns. If you're willing to go back a few turns, an excellent way to get a feel for the mechanics would be to play as a small major nation. Any power other than the Big 3 and Austria (who gets ...

Like Lee for the Confederates, some leaders are too good not to use. Napoleon benefits from extraordinarily good stats, and I would recommend using him as a beat stick. To add, after deleting the local files, I was able to restore manually from a previous turn; now the game allows me to load my other games without crashing. I expect that means the save file was somehow corrupted.

Please let me know at your earliest convenience what you think the problem is.

Game Crashed at Turn Resolution, Will not Resume or Load without Crashing

Good afternoon, While playing Spain in the January 1805 Campaign, I finally had the British navy at a disadvantage- they were too long out of supply. Seizing the opportunity, I managed to send out a smaller fleet that completely obliterated a small British fleet of 20 ships with minimal losses in tw...
