Re: units besieging Harpers Ferry from within...

Thanks all. I shall experiment with reinforcing the stack in there - see what happens. The unit in there has now been upgraded to an 'army' but that doesn't seem to have made a difference. The CSA is in the region with the unit, maybe even IN the structure with them - not sure. But, as noted, no bat...

Re: Is the AI game worth trying?

Not at all. I can say that the graphics in WoN are really lovely, much better than NC (I have both). Plus, there are various things missing from NC besides a grand campaign, I think. I've barely played it, but I believe, for example, there's no recruiting in NC. It's very much more a military only t...

units besieging Harpers Ferry from within...

Anyone know what is going on here? I have moved a kind of coup de main Union force to Harper's Ferry, very early on (May 61) and it's not shown on the map. To see it I have to use the ledger. If I click on Harper's Ferry it doesn't appear. I can only see that it's actually IN Harper's Ferry by click...

Re: novice question - units become fixed again

Ah! Thanks. I have the activation setting over to the far right, as I thought that would be most challenging, but hadn't realised it resulted in fixing as well as them being periodically unactivated. Many thanks for the clarification. I'll expect it when it happens now!

novice question - units become fixed again

Trying various different starts to the full campaign from the Union side I decided to be aggressive at the earliest opportunity and moved what I had of the Army of NorthEastern Virginia, led by McDowell, into Manassas, whilst the CSA had only a very small force there during the early May 61 turn. No...

which is current version?

I have the steam version - which is 1.03.01. There's no possibility of opting in to betas on steam. Can someone tell me - is the 1.03.01 the most up to date version, including betas, or is there a later beta available? Many thanks.

Re: Poll. To be or not to be hexed.

I loathe hexes and would stop playing if these games ended up with a hexy, unnatural map. Unless you could switch them off, of course - but even then it would still be awful if terrain features followed the (invisible) hex lines making the map look all jagged and contrived. JTS games are like that a...

blockade question

How do I know whether my flotilla is powerful enough to blockade a port? And what is the precise mechanics? I'm playing the Union. For instance, if I station a flotilla in Hampton Roads sea region (where Ft Munroe is located - I also control Ft Munroe) then that should blockade James City harbour, n...

Tips for GNW please

Any experts care to share tips for fighting the GNW as Sweden? I'm in the beginning of the second year of the GNW only, Denmark out due to Travendal. But I lost Narva at the beginning of last winter (to Golitsyn) and Riga is heavily besieged by a significant Polish force. I have enough to deal with ...

Well, I think we're not alone....Mais c'est bon que normalement on peut trouver les solutions ici.... Thanks for the reply, Phil. This thread (link below) has useful advice as to who might or might not join in a battle, Chatainge, but I'm not sure how it relates exactly to the marching to the sound ...

viewing numbers of men

Can anyone help? I notice that, instead of combat power I can read off the numbers of men, horses, guns etc in a stack if I hover over the little division symbol for any card in the stack (in the bottom bar stack inspector, I mean) - I mean the little Nato-type symbol in the top right of the card. B...

Many thanks for the full and thoughtful response and tips, Col Marbot. Much appreciated. It's reassuring to hear from someone more or less happy with it, as - you're right - I've mostly heard complaints.

Re: Map mod

Just came across this. There are 3 errors in the download - same 3 each time I try, so I guess maybe they got corrupted with age, or something.... They are: in part 1, the region 01922Region.bmp file is blank, in part 2, the winter_00548Region.bmp file is blank, and in part 3 the winter_02838Region....

terrain anti-saturation mod?

Can anyone recommend a mod to tone down the saturated terrain colours? Many mods here seem to have inactive links now. Or is there an easy way to change the colour tones myself?

Thanks.

Is the AI game worth trying?

I've never played past ten moves in the game. I love the map and the look of it. I would really like to play a good Napoleonic game, but have seen various issues hinted at, in these forums and elsewhere, a propos of the enemy AI performance in the longer campaigns. Can those who have been there, see...

uses for smaller ships?

Can anyone enlighten me as to the uses smaller ship types might be put to? I mean brigs, ketches etc. Not riverine transport - I understand what they're for. But smaller ocean boats, and the smaller boats on inland seas, and lakes. As I understand it, shore bombardment only happens (by selecting the...

which version is current

Sorry to ask this (again, think) - but I had to reinstall and now I'm unsure which version I should be on. After using the matrix updater I am on (according to the credits screen) version 1.01. Is this the most up to date version?

Thanks.

Re: English Civil War update to 1.03a

Just bought the game and the matrix updater says I'm up to date. In the credits it says version 1. What should I do? Can I manually update 1.03a and apply over version 1, or do I need other patches installed first?
