Re: What strategy would you propose? Late ´62

Taking D.C. in '62 for the Confederates is predictable. Works well on AI or weak players. You have to keep up your Recon as the North and anticipate the move. The South requires a lot of recruitment in KY/Missouri/Tennessee and runs out of cash almost more quickly than recruits. If the Union recruit...

Re: Civil War III

Glad to see Pocus wrote here, that leaves me some hope that the plans are there. Perhaps not in the immediate future but in a couple of years or so... I like some of the ideas I skimmed over. Some of the detail of CW2 could of used refinement. Some of the historical debate would add to the quality o...

Civil War III

I am a huge fan of CW2 and it's now 2018, been 5 years since the original release and I know I am hardly a hardcore player here but .........are there intentions to release a version 3 at some point? CW2 was ahead of it's time but with all the things learned the next release would be quite awesome i...

Re: Year 1 of the Civil War

Tripax, good suggestion and makes the long series more fluid. Although a bit late, I'd like to recommend listening to the Foote audiobook (with the aforementioned caveat that Foote isn't considered a reliable source on attitudes and motivations). I've listened to it twice (never read the book). It g...

Re: I'm absolutely hooked on this game!

I have a love/hate fixation with Civil War 2. It is the definitive title available and yet you can tell with the detail it will probably be impossible for a player unless they are an AGEOD fanatic to ever be an Ultimate Master of the game. I've played a dozen or so in detail PBEM games. Maybe 5-10 m...

Re: Year 1 of the Civil War

Thank you for the enlightening point of view. I am enjoying the read. I find a lot of detail in it. The romantics you mention I see. I recall that from his documentary commentary on Burn's PBS Special. Though I am glad to know I am not wasting my effort!

Re: Civil War statues

I have seen too much divide in the nation in my short life to warrant the maintaining statues of the Civil War Period. In my opinion if removing the Lincoln Memorial would bring about a greater understanding and peace among people I would be all for it as well.

Year 1 of the Civil War

(People here agree that Foote is worthy reading?) Not able to read much, as I am in bed ill with my usual prompted me to open up Shelby Foote's Fort Sumter to Perrysville. Reminds me how despite several victories in the South in Missouri and Virginia the reality of the first year of the War is ugly ...

Re: The Short War: tripax (Union) vs Battle von War (Confederate)

Gray Fox, you're right. I actually rarely see Union Player's Blockade The Potomac. I also thought that CSA Forces crossing from Alexandria to D.C. face issues with the river being under fire by heavy guns? Possibility of interception of some type, or total blockade. There are so many rules to CW2. I...

Re: The Short War: tripax (Union) vs Battle von War (Confederate)

"No!" There was nothing left in Alexandria after the battle but a garrison, for some reason it survived. Then due to the fort rule Lee and his entire Army/Corps could not move out of Alexandria into any adjacent Union Territory. They were stuck an entire turn while McDowell and all of his ...

(As I moved several Corp and 1 HQ and Lee into Northern Virginia, I expected to take Milroy, Sumner and McDowell HQ(with Corps) Off the front line and back to rear positions. I suspect the weak size of my army present was not threatening enough but this was my Strategic Plan. Longstreet's Corp in Ke...

Re: The Short War: tripax (Union) vs Battle von War (Confederate)

(This is when I began to wonder if my 1861 strategy with it's flaws had cost me the game. I was slow to remove myself from Missouri and I was not decisive in pressure Kentucky. Also with the arrival of Strong Union Forces on the Gulf Coast and bypassing fortresses like they were silly putty, economi...

Re: The Short War: tripax (Union) vs Battle von War (Confederate)

(In previous patches The Matagorda Card would run, I'm pretty sure even when in enemy possession. Should have checked the latest patch notes. I liked that slight of hand you did with Lyon-Grant...dropping Grant in then quickly removing him. I expected to see Grant deep into Arkansas but you quickly ...

Re: The Short War: tripax (Union) vs Battle von War (Confederate)

(Forget the early Union Exploits out West! I did not raise an Army early in The Far West, figuring you would like any wise Union Player ignore this and hunker down after Tuscon and perhaps raid a little. In fact I was so complacent here I was reacting rather than dictating. Then suddenly here comes ...

Re: The Short War: tripax (Union) vs Battle von War (Confederate)

Hopefully not interrupting but this was quite a strong Union opener. I myself haven't used this opener. Aggressive and forward on almost all fronts. Plus successful along with it. 1861 was sort of the backdrop for 1862. I thought for sure my slight advantage in numbers and leadership might play in V...

Yes lost Albert Sidney Johnston in actual combat. I thought they downgraded that in the past patches. Also sent a ** General into a fight once or twice and they were killed.

Combat Tactics

Read on these forums that the smoke created by powder weapons made the ranges on a lot of these era firearms worthless. So after a few volleys you got in pretty close to shoot or you probably wouldn't see or hit anything. Is that actually true? Also since I read Badge of Courage(untrained men, run) ...

Re: Landing Penalities Too Harsh?

In my very first PBEM game my opponent landed upon Memphis and bypassed all the forts on the Mississippi with Grant and the force was the same size as the entrenched force there = complete destruction for him. He wanted to quit and I talked him into continuing and he did the same move pretty much ag...

Re: What's the best way to capture Colorado and California?

Never gone for California though have taken Nevada and Colorado in Multiplayer. It was a little bit of a let down cause the supplies and resources necessary cost me coastal cities which I did the math. They're the gold of the south. Those 2 Divisions and Supplies would have held a port likely a full...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Logistics, give the CSA Full on infantry divisions on par with the Union till 1863 starts. That's about the time when Union Numbers start to dwarf Confederate numbers. The CSA Template it's dreadful. Too many 6lbers mixed in with infantry, forcing them to strain their resources to build an army that...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Grant*** General by early '62 with Lyon and companion.. Ignore the West and steamroll the East. With the kind of naval power the Union builds the CSA has a hard time doing anything significant on the Rivers or holding sustained deep attacks into the Hinterland. Mother Russia = Depleting resources......

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

You really don't even need to train as the Union.(training will help you if the CSA is in the top 5 CSA CW2 players in the game but pretty much it's all there for you) The default Unit Build is so far superior to that of the Confederacy you can simply build nothing but pure infantry divisions withou...

Re: Can the CSA actually win?

Bought this game 2 years ago. SO far... I've played the CSA between 12-15 times in PBEM. Significant to say she can win against inferior opponents. She can win by winning early or catching a sleeping Union. After that no she cannot at all. 1862 = her last chance for Alcohol really! My Union experien...

CW2: Elite Union Wanted

Best of the Best please apply? I've never lost a game as the Union, just kind of boring. I have won a few as the CSA or made it late in the game. i.e. Late Winter 1863 Rules are negotiable to some degree, you tell me your rule desires I will respond in and we can negotiate. If we want house rules we...

I didn't mean Athena. I meant against a human opponent. Also Just move the Capitol if you are concerned about losing D.C. it's not that bad a situation. -10 NM now is really not going to hurt the Union that much. I see plenty of Union players gravitate on 70 NM forever and make up for it later down ...

Re: CSA Template vs Union

With Grant and the build a very good Union Player can end Southern misery rather early. Either the leaders for the North should be dwarfed or her builds... she shouldn't have the best of both worlds. IMHO
