Skirmishers and Skirmish order tactic.

Skirmish tactics in Napoleonic wars Skirmishing in linear combat saw it´s debut in 18th century and then in Napoleonic era. To simply define "skirmisher" you could say it´s an infantryman deployed ahead of a main force in a loose order (skirmish chain) and harrases enemy regulars or their own skirm...

Totally up for this. Generals dying (especially brigadiers) was not uncommon. If a high ranking general got captured and thus possibly returned, he should not be able to command anymore. Important characters should be handled with extra care here, mostly because of game balance. In reality French wo...

I am totally up for a serious Baltic schemes, afterall Brits, French and Russians took Baltic politics very seriously in reality. So many alliances were created and wars fought between nations and Baltic was no exception. Also, all that struggle to weaken or gain a strong naval force just to project...

True, Spain changed sides kinda quick here didn´t they. :) Although their involvement in first coalition was kinda "meeh" let´s not risk much (well entire first coalition was kinda "meeh"). This kind of behavior was typical for Napoleonic wars and pre-wars so yeah flexibility here could really be fu...

Such a scenario in not pure fantasy, lets imagine that Napoleon was successful in his colonial policy prior to 1805 and Luisiana, Haiti and Cape Town are in french hands... Spain is uncertain about its holdings in Cuba while is having an hungry eye on New Orleans,,, Lets imagine Ferdinand being a k...

Well, Spanish aligment to Britain is proportional to a French "bad" behavior in Spanish peninsula...without that there is not much chance for an alliance. Since Spain dislike for Britain and Portugal is strong (alliance of those two should be a cornerstone here) and this dislike was present even dur...

Squares vs. Cavalry

Squares and their place in linear combat: Square formation was an important tactic and infrantryman only hope against cavalry in the field. It´s use was not limited only in Napoleonic wars (used before and after as well), but Napoleonic wars saw a heavy use of this formation, mostly because of stro...

Mixed order tactics

Why use mixed order? Well, because Napoleon thought of it as a good idea. "Columns don't break through lines unless with superior artillery." - Napoleon This advice was not always listened to, and colums took heavy losses if not under cover or if under prolonged artillery fire. Napoleon therefore ad...

Column and Line tactics, what´s that about?

Traditional line: -horizontal progress -hard to maneuver/turn -easier to brake on movement (loss of cohesion) +higher firepower = Traditional formation from 18th century, in napoleonic era it lost it´s popularity to columns which were better for maneuver combat. Yet very effi...

Napoleonic military tactics

I decided to start out a thread about military tactics from Napoleonic era, since although there is number of quality pages on the topic, I haven´t found one in this forum. I realize that Ageod games are above single unit tactical control, but some basic understanding of tactics and units used could...

Getting Spain without having to fight a costly war with them(well Spanish people) should be a priority for France. That option and also having an influence over more important decisions of the time could be very interesting. For example, if Napoleon defeats Austria he will get to choose what course ...

Other effect that "razing" a city should have is raizing a harbor with it. Mostly because it looks weird to have lvl.1 harbors on map without cities.

I hope diversity will be an option here. Although military models used were similar armies and their tactics were not. In my opinion there must be a chance for: GBR vs. RUS hostility (be it India, Paul II etc.) FRA and USA friendship or hostility ( 1812, french expedition, french Mexico) German states + Italy should play a factor in deciding if they be pro French or pro Coalition and have a chance to unite or atleas...

So there will be some sort of "leader of the nation" mechanic in the game? Or it will be abstracted? (like in CW2,TEAW).

Just taking this from those Bourbon/Bony throne switching.
