Civil war *era* games?

I am wondering if anyone can recommend good games that treat the political side of the civil war in more detail? Has anyone ever made an interesting game about the lead up to the civil war or about Reconstruction?

I noticed the same bug about money options never going away no matter how many times you selected them in the East scenario when I played as Union. I suspect that only noobs like us play the smaller scenarios, so these bugs get overlooked. This is a pity since the BRS expansion costs decent money an...

Just my two cents as someone new-ish to AGEOD titles. I had bought Napoleon's Campaigns and ACW previously but never got into them. AACW2 is the first AGEOD game I have played much with. In my opinion, the new interace is MUCH more accessible to new players. Although some options are nested down, th...

Some questions and comparison with ACW2?

I have been having a great time with ACW2, and I'm deciding which AGEOD title to get next. I am mostly leaning towards Espana, but also considering one of Alea Jacta Est series or To End All Wars. Historically, I am more interested in SCW than either other title. Here are some questions: 1) How big ...

Of course, you can also leave most of the volunteer brigades outside of the fortifications, give them some artillery and and a few leaders and have them dig in and set them to hold at all cost. BTW an engineer unit is locked in the Prince George region, so they can entrench the volunteers pretty qu...

Thanks very much for the tips thus far. I just finished the East Theater scenario successfully (I admit I had Athena at the Private level of difficulty, which was a cakewalk), and I'm starting a full campaign with default AI settings. So, these tips will help a lot. Thanks for the specific info on t...

predicting fort bombardment?

I'm learning the game still, especially the naval part. Sometimes, it seems a Union fleet can go past river/coastal forts without trouble. Other times, the bombardment from the fort is decimating. A few questions: 1) how to know exactly what sort of movement will trigger a bombardment? I've found th...

This has turned into something of a flame war. The interface is decent, but it should be uncontroversial to say that there is a lot of room for improvement (lots of clicks to raise units, too much info in text form, etc etc). For starters, it would be nice if the unit raising filters had memory. For...

Yup. Considering the emphasis that ageod games place on command and control, especially in aacw2, this is a conspicuous absence.

Confusion on changing corps/division leaders

I want to do some shuffling of corps and division commands, but several things are confusing. There seems to be no way to "replace" one leader with another. For example, to replace a division commander, it appears I have to disband the division and then re-form it with a new commander. This changes ...

Ok, thanks for the replies. Sounds like it reduces micromanagement but it's not good to ignore it entirely. My need numbers were getting up into the red. I started ordering extra replacements manually (meaning 2 turns without forming brand new units), and the need numbers are no longer red. And, jus...

Do people find automated replacements helpful?

I'm playing the W Campaign (1862) scenario, and I turned on automated replacements to avoid some micromanagement. Even though it's set to 15% (the maximum), I don't seem to be getting many replacements effectively. When I got to the War Production screen (F2), the replacement pool numbers that tell ...

Would you clarify or break out what ROF is, or stands for, please? Lost me there, couldn't find the apposite for it. - Rate of Fire, maybe? And you might want to make this crystal clear: (Discipline)*(Assault)/2 - do you mean [(D)*(A)] / 2 or (D) * [(A)/2)] ? The two equations give the same result....

how to organize New Orleans seaborne expedition in W 1862 campaign?

I just started playing the one-year "west" campaign, and the scenario notes talk about organizing the seaborne expedition to capture New Orleans. I am wondering how to do this? In the regular campaign, you would raise units on the east coast, load them on a transport and move them down, I assume. Gi...
