Re: Questions about farm fields

I don't see why not, the Farm Field produces the money and the supply, not the Lvl. 1 town, and you control it. Presumably unless it is connected to your own supply network the supplies will build up turn to turn, although without the town to stockpile the excess it might disappear each turn if not ...

Re: Quick question on something I thought I read once...

AoE Bros. doesn't suck and neither does whoever he is playing against. They have clearly been reading the forums, you can tell just by their stack composition. And his tutorials are a damn sight better than the manuals.

Re: Quick question on something I thought I read once...

Fox, are you talking about AoE Bro? Bummer about the credit, for the most part I have liked what he has put out, although I haven't watched them all. I made a stab at a doing some videos a year or two ago, but it took a lot of time and I never really liked what I came up with. I guess Gilmer posted ...

Re: Quick question on something I thought I read once...

I can confirm. One time I had an Army stack and a second small stack that had been holding the region that I forgot to sweep up. An enemy Corps attacked and on the first round (the one that has all the long range fire) the Army didn't participate and the smaller stack was almost wiped. On the second...

Re: What strategy would you propose? Late ´62

I would not promote them, they have better stats as 2 stars and should be Corp commanders under Lee anyway. Just be patient, at some point you will be able to force your way into DC. Athena often makes critical mistakes and sends troops away from DC inthese situations if you have some threat to the ...

The thing I want fixed is the battle results screen only displaying the first 9 elements of a division. It should show all of them.

Re: Some rule/mechanics questions from early play.

Captain Orso pointed out some of the downsides of replacement spending: "...replacement chits are reserves, on which you can only call, if your units in the field are actually missing hits, and they will never increase the size of your forces in the field." On the upside, however, unlike n...

Re: Some rule/mechanics questions from early play.

You will never figure out replacements with auto-replace on. It is total garbage: it buys too many of the wrong kind when you don't need them, and too few when you do. Plus it doesn't tell you how much money it is spending, which varies each turn because it tries for a percentage of your available t...

Re: Promotions Can They Change Stats or Traits?

Goodmongo, I know that your point was that you should play using the knowledge you have and make decisions accordingly, and I generally agree with that and avoid promoting generals that I know will get worse. But in any case where I would have to lose NM to promote around him, I find it more advanta...

Re: Promotions Can They Change Stats or Traits?

This is slightly off-topic, but one of the reasons that the Peter Principle is a logical outcome in the real-world (and not just a cynical joke) is that you promote a person who is good at their job into a completely different job (managing other people that do their old job) which they may or may n...

This almost always works against the AI even at hard settings since the back-door t...

Re: What if You Had No Replacements For Light Artillery

#1 Then again the game might say it can't repair it because there is no space in the division for the repaired element. Does anyone know for sure? This. You have gotten lucky and hit on a way to rid yourself of a 6lber! Once you fill the divisional slot with a different element the now-full division...

Re: Cavalry and Stack Question

Goodmongo and other new players, A thing to keep in mind while scouting/raiding against the AI is to avoid sitting on Athena's rail lines unless you specifically need to tear-up/interdict that particular track. Athena spends a lot of time shuffling units back and forth for her inscrutable reasons, a...

Re: Cavalry and Stack Question

Goodmongo, I really wouldn't use them too much in the east for deep raids as the union has tons of forces all over the place. Indiana and Illinois are more suited for some raids, at least I think they might be. I think this is an accurate assessment, and you are generally on the right track in your ...

Re: Cavalry and Stack Question

This part of Goodmongo's plan may have some flaws. Yeah, we are on the same page there: some stockades matter, most don't. The CSA needs Shelby in command of divisions in the tough battles; he is the best general in the region and belongs in the thick of things. Stand Waite on the other hand is sui...

Re: Cavalry and Stack Question

In the case of the MO/IT stockades, you start right next to them, with mobile units and active leaders, it is summer and you typically have decent weather, so the CSA can easily beat the Union to them and face auto-garrisons at worst. It isn't like you have a choice to attack depots in IL or IN with...

Re: Cavalry and Stack Question

Re: Cavalry and Stack Question

I agree that really good cav generals are wasted in Missouri, they should be in the West proper (TN, KY, IN, OH, IL). Shelby belongs in MO, but he is best used as a stack /division commander in the campaign for St. Louis. Fox said, but I disagree somewhat: Stockades and towns near MO don't seem to b...

Re: Crossed rilfes in Objective screen?

breunorgamer, To address Q2 about Victory Conditions, several of the scenarios are lopsided and nearly impossible for one side to win, especially the short ones (Sibley!). CW2 doesn't give you a big victory splash screen, (on purpose) so it is kind of left up to you to award yourself a win or not. I...

Re: Use of artillery

Divisions with only combat elements (no arty) outperform those with support elements (arty). As long as you have plenty of arty in the frontage (from your artillery division) your combat divisions are better off without arty integrated into them if you can help it (you usually can't, stupid 6 lbers!).

There are two combat bonuses in play, one for stack command and another for division command. Also, the general consensus is that artillery perform best in a dedicated division that has only artillery and no combat units. Give them the best 1* general you have to maximise their impact, and try to have an artillerist somewhere in the stack (he doesn't have to be in command of the arty divisio...
