I've read pretty extensively on the Civil War and I don't remember any single example of any attack made by either side from the regions we are discussing. Namely the region in between the norther border of Morgantown - Lewisburg - Prestonburg - Lexington and the south border of New Market - Covingt...

The "Trimble's Brigade" naming mechanism is just flavor. The only actual generals you get in game are separate units that have a picture and can be moved around. These guys are considered to be division generals or above. While each of those guys can merge with any single unit, they can also form di...

Can I ask how you folks have managed to turn on the option to show the number of elements on the upper left hand side of a unit? Mine don't do that and I can't find anywhere how to do it. Thanks.

It affects all the artillery upgrades for both sides. See thread here.

I like the idea of Stonewall. Sounds doable within the limits of the game... Not only is it doable in theory, I put it in my game last evening and it fires just as expected. New ability collection called "Inconsistent" which includes two new battle abilities "Shrinking_Violet" and "Clutch_Performer...

Does this help explain why there are two artillery versions for replacements? Does anyone have an explanation for the two types of artillery replacements? It looks like an inconsistency on AGEOD's part for how to handle artillery replacements. The CMN_Art1 used by the CSA is the model for a 4 gun b...

Near as I can tell, during a battle there are no rolls which affect a general's performance for the entire day. The activation roll is the closest there is. The drunkard ability is similar, though, in that it makes the activation roll even more important and can give a general a very off day. I thi...

There is a modifier called "National Resilience" or somesuch in the gamedata/factions folder that controls the number of rolls you get. That file has has some other neat stuff in it. For example, I always knew that the USA had a lower unit cohesion recovery rate than the CSA. I didn't know that it w...

I had no idea each faction had 7 die rolls per turn to regain NM. (I'm assuming the Union receives the same chance.) From that perspective trading 1 NM for 8 WSU, especially in the early game, doesn't seem like such a risk. The Law of Averages should negate that 1 NM loss a least once in awhile. US...

Thank you so far for your reply. Still, as the database cannot be downloaded I need to work with the txt.files and the editor. Painful, but the only solution. And the first lines in the ability-files (e.g. 1cavalryman.abi) are understandable. Problem are such fields like Family or ProgRate. Further...

Thanks, that's good to know about the XP to stat increase thing. That was my fear. I think I may just have to do some events that will result in promotions. It may run counter to what is happening in game at the time, but I see no other way to avoid having 5 corps across the entirety of the CSA by t...

When Johnston was killed, his army was not leaderless until Jeff Davis sent a replacement. Someone immediately took charge. That person would be the "second in command". Every unit has one. Here's the only line in the manual about why a non-army leader is inactive: "Not being activated can represen...

I noticed the RGD for blockade runners, but trading 1 NM for a measly 8 WSU seemed a rip off. I suppose I would feel more comfortable if I had 140 NM sitting in the "bank", but it still seems a steep price to pay for the amount of WSU the CSA receives. Is the CSA that desperate? I always play from ...

I know you advocate crushing the Union in the East with the "Best of Best" as soon as the CSA is able. This is my intent, but it seems I'll need some WSU to build up that battle-winning, production and NM-boosting force; however, I can't see building a war-winning force on only 63 WSU per turn. Tho...

Leader Promotions - Specifically the Dearth of CSA 2-Star Generals

So, I've started to discover that the CSA is absolutely strangled by the lack of 2-star generals. Many of my promotable guys (1 star but have a 2 star model) are simply not promoting. I'm not quite sure why since most of my forces see quite a bit of combat. First question, what specifically effects ...

I also think that swapping Corps commanders based on their activation status is gamey. But, whatever, its a game, people can play however they want. I mod the hell out of my game (mostly leader ratings and attributes). Many people would consider that gamey. So, to each his own. What would be interes...

USA and CSA Zoaves have a 10% movement speed bonus. The early CSA Zoaves, in addition to the movement bonus, have a 30 day build time, which is consistent with other CSA infantry builds. Early Zoaves then upgrade to a different Zoave regiment with stats identical to standard infantry, including a re...

I have been experimenting using the RGD - Build Railroad and can't get it to work. Adding it as an option to either the USA or CSA results in a NULL mouseover when I attempt to play the card. I thought it was terrible. If you want good memoirs, try these. Joshua L. Chamberlain's, The Passing of Armies. It's kind of short, and chronicles the last 2 weeks of the war. Fascinating reading. James Longstreet's, Manassas to Appomattox. Boring, but informative and somewhat insightful. Every fail...

I know this is 5 months late, but Douglas Southall Freeman wrote the definitive biography on Lee. It's a 4 volume work. Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice

I just wanted to say that I am enjoying this game immensely. I routinely go back and forth in between 3-4 games during my free time, which unfortunately has not been in great quantity lately. In the past 3 weeks, I have had zero desire to play anything other than PON. Nothing. I've had a blast. Than...
