Nothing like thread necromancy or voting in a poll that is well over 9 months old... Time to put this thread/poll to rest. It's now meaningless and irrelevant as far as AACW is concerned. What's wrong in talking about the game? The description of this board is "Announcements and general discussion ...

Marching to the Sound of the Guns

To reinforce a fight, does a unit have to start the turn in an adjacent region, or can it arrive there in time for a fight in a neighbouring region and join it? (So, corps A marches into region X to start a fight on day D. If corps B marches on the same turn from region Z to region Y, adjacent to re...

In case you haven't noticed, in WIA you don't need to have replacements of a given type for the units to recover hits. Everybody located on a structure and with adequate supply will progressively recover hits. In WIA replacements are only used for recovering "full missing elements". Interesting. I ...

The lack of regular replacements is also something I'm also increasingly irritated about. I am playing a F&IW campaign as the Brits. I am in 1759 and I haven't had regular infantry replacements for the first five years or so of the game. All my armies are skeletons for lack of replacements, and have...

Thank you, Gray. So which is the latest turn on which the 10 units must arrive in one of the specified regions? If they arrive late September 1862, thus being in the region in that turn and the next, early October 1862, is it enough? Or do they have to already have been there for two turns at the be...

In fact I'd be glad for any help in understanding what went wrong. I went to length to avoid the second NM hit. I understand the event is satisfied by placing ten units (any type) in any region no more than two regions from Richmond (i.e. one region in between is valid, i.e. Williamsburg is OK) for ...

Otherwise just read "Maybe a certain number of combat elements would have made a tad more sense." ;)

Well. From 10 leaders with zero power to 10 divisions with a combined power of over 5,000, that's quite a range for this event. Maybe a certain number of combat elements would make a tad more sense. Even considering the difficulties of finding out how many you have. :)

"the Unit Panel needs to read at least "10 units" in the upper left"

If that's the case, then the event could be satisfied by sending a single line unit with 9 leaders ... yes, or 10 leaders if you like, but I'd provide some sort of escort. ;)

Frustrating, but maybe realistic? It's usually the units actually doing the fighting which are most undermanned. See, all these replacements coming up from the rear are eagerly appropriated by all those rear area commanders for their local units, leaving the front line units the leavings, if any ......

Ridiculous. The portage works both ways. But the port itself [Montreal] is not an adjacent region to the lake, if I understand where your ships are. The 'move to port' must be to a port that you control in a region immediately adjacent to your ships. "Immediately adjacent" is the pertinent ...

They cannot go to back Montreal because i'm pretty sure the Lachine Rapids (near Montreal) portage is one way only: Montreal towards Ontario, not the other way around (surely for historical reason, can't tell for sure as i'm no expert on the FIW). Hm. Ships sai...

If Niagara isn't a port, then yes. But the ships came from Montreal in the first place to conquer a friendly port on the lake :indien: , so why couldn't they just return there when the ice struck? Doesn't seem logical.

Ships in the Ice

In BoA, ships that happened to be out on a lake when it decided to freeze were sent to a nearby friendly port. In a WIA FIW campaign, this didn't happen. Rather, my two squadrons (eight elements) on Lake Ontario became locked in the ice when the lake froze and then of course "disappeared" over the n...

Could this be the issue? I've tried opening it with the crazy modified name and ALSO by renaming it back to its appropriate name, but with no success. The file name extension is there alright (as you can see in the "type" column); you simply have blocked your windows OS from showing known extensions. Change that setting and you will see it. If you create a subfolder in your "saves" folder that has the exact same name as the .trn file before the "~...

However, there was a predecessor canal called the "Illinois and Michigan Canal" which opened in 1848 and had a width of 60' and a depth of 6' . That sounds awfully narrow and shallow to squeeze through. According to this site most ACW river gunboats drew 6 feet or more of water and at least some we...

1) I have never seen any percentage other than a multiple of 5. So you need to add a lot of ships to have this go up to the next step. It definitely works. Put a large fleet with a power of 500 or so in the box and you'll see it make a difference. I believe directly blocking ports also adds to the p...

I think I've noticed recently that you can get core bonuses for multiple generals. If you form a corps with one general and get the bonus next turn, then place a general with a higher seniority into the corps, they take over and get the bonus too. I think this is what I saw but I could be wrong. I'...

That is a bit odd, no? Most guns captured in the Civil War were done so by infantry on the battle field. Yes, but then the ACW was an infantry fight above all. For my understanding cavalry was under-used during much of the ACW. In fact, until late in the war Civil War armies were unusually short of...
