Re: Peering over the Trench from

Here's another book suggestion. I highly recommend Prelude to Blitzkrieg, The 1916 Austro-German Campaign in Romania, by Michael B. Barrett. I think this is the kind of book you're looking for.

Re: Negative Cash at turn start (-71)

I did read your reply. Both I and my opponent have had this happen last game. Several times actually. We've played this and EAW quite a lot via email but it had never happened before. No we don't compress our turn files. Never been a problem in the past. Thanks for the suggestion.

Negative Cash at turn start (-71)

I've played this game for years, mostly PBEM, but I have never seen this happen before. Now it's happened twice in the same game. The second time it was -71! How does this happen? Here’s what the treasury note tells me: 54 (+214) Initial amount 347 Cities income +213 Unit Replacements -152 Recruitme...

Re: Bogus Subs, Control of the Undersea Cable, & all That

Coming to this discussion late I can report that not using subs or raiders in the Atlantic in a PBEM game apparently did keep the US out of the war in a recent game. Wilson was also defeated in the election. Switching sides my opponent also has not used subs in the Atlantic, but he did use raiders. ...

Surprise Ending to PBEM Game

Surprise for me at least. On the turn that Austria surrendered, turn 85, the game ended with a major Allied win. Morale for both sides had been dropping rapidly for several turns while rebel alignment was increasing for all at predictable rates. Consequently Austria's surrender was anticipated by bo...

Re: Added GHQ's in the West

Wow. After all this time. I've stopped looking to see if there were any replies to my many suggestions for EAW. Thanks to Khanti for this one from way back in May of last year! It might clutter up the map as you say, but it would be so much more historically accurate and I think easier to play. 1 UK...

Re: Favorite AGEOD games

CWII and TEAW (and not the ultimate mod!) are real favorites. TEAW needs updating, perhaps a new version as was done with CW. So much potential. Both of these are so much better as PBEM. The current AI just does so many odd seemingly random things. I have English Civil War, Wars of Napoleon, Thirty ...

Re: Another Mantuan event question

So no one reads C.V. Wedgwood's The Thirty Years War anymore? It's Copyrighted 1938 I know. It was the main text we used when I was in college (last century). Still a classic from defenestration to the Peace of Westphalia.

Re: Poll. New engine first game.

To End All Wars is a real favorite but it needs so much polishing to be all it can be. What a great opportunity to do that and implement the new engine. But wait, I've been an analyst/developer of several very large defense systems in a past life and there can be so many pitfalls and stumbles. On se...

Re: Play by Email Problems

That's what I thought. Yes, we have the same settings. We made sure of that before we started the game. Is there something about using this small scenario as opposed to one of the grand games?

Play by Email Problems

I've played Civil War II by e-mail several times and never had a problem. But playing EAW via email has been a continuous problem. We are trying to play one of the simpler scenarios, the Tannenberg 1914 scenario. I know we are following the instructions in the game manual. Has something changed? Doe...

Knowingly or unknowingly this does reflect the historical situation in Russia after the signing of the Brest-Litovsk Treaty. Over a million German troops remained in the ceded territory as garrison while the local populations became increasingly upset with the occupation. Dashed Polish expectations ...

Re: What do you have to do to get a major victory?

Ahh, I forgot to say that my NM was 107 to the Protestants 29, although mine had been as high as 137. It just kept dropping due to "War Weariness" I suppose. Protestant land combat power was 0 for many turns. My men lost was 108987 to the Protestant 219752. At one point I had 300 prisoners...

What do you have to do to get a major victory?

Just finished the campaign game, for the first time, as the Imperials with over 29000 victory points (spent quite a few during the game) to 1700 for the AI Protestant. Occupied all the objectives for the last 20 years of the game. For the last ten years of the game the Protestant had 0 combat power ...

The Russian capture of the German Naval codes and their subsequent use by the British should be included as a special event. The capture of these codes, and others, should be random and the possibility of no capture or compromise should at least exist. Any movement of the German High Seas Fleet shou...

Zeppelins and Long Range Bombers

Several items here. Add another special event (I would label it ‘Zeppelin L59’) which would allow the German player, at some cost in War Supply, to at least attempt to fly one airship resupply mission to German forces in Africa. Reflecting the historical situation I would also allow Zeppelin raids a...

Horse Availability and Truck Supply Units

As the war went on there was a significant reduction in the availability of horses to transport supply (especially in Germany, but also in Britain) which caused the powers to rely more and more on lorries and trucks to accomplish this task. The ability to create these units is not reflected in the g...

Added GHQ's in the West

I realize there may be technical issues restricting the implementation of this change. However, if they can be overcome it would add a bit of historical accuracy if there were a separate GHQ for the BEF (English only) and one for the French (GQG), with the Belgian units falling under one or the othe...
