Re: CSA PBEM winning strategy?

The conventional wisdom is that capitals get extra supplies and basically never starve out. This may no longer be the case with D.C. as a normal city, but it's something to keep in mind. For the "take D.C. strategy" to work, you must cross the Potomac and assault the capital in one turn be...

Re: Building CSA coastal art?

Coastal artillery are an expensive waste of limited resources. Units inside a fort don't resist an invading force directly. So the Union can land an amphibious force on a fortress and unless the stack is in assault mode, no battle takes place. The artillery will fire at passing ships, but the invade...

Re: CSA PBEM winning strategy?

Now that the Union moved their capital, the stack you had to assault D.C. can be used to harass every weak spot in the Union position. Wherever Grant shows up, hammer him. A General gains seniority by causing more casualties than he loses. If you can give Grant a large negative casualty count ASAP, ...

CW hardtack bread

I suppose that every CW history buff eventually reads about the awful "hardtack" that the soldiers had to eat. Here is a video of how the "indestructible bread" is made:

Re: CSA PBEM winning strategy?

Most of the locked units in D.C. are trash and they can't be put into Divisions. The fortifications actually have a smaller capacity than the city itself, causing an overcrowding penalty if the Union puts a big stack there. I took it in Oct. 1861 against a maxed out AI. A human opponent has to reall...

Re: CSA PBEM winning strategy?

Threaten D.C. right from 1861 onward with a powerful stack. If the Union player has to defend his capital, then he has less available to invade the coast, move in the west or do anything else. If he ignores the defense of his capital, then take it and crush his morale. http://www.ageod-forum.com/dow...

TBH, I have not used this setting. At normal, the AI does some challenging things, like trying to take Cairo, IL. I would expect that Low might make the AI into nothing more than a punching bag. You are welcome to give it a try and let us know.

If you are referring to the Sibley Campaign, then El Paso is the CSA supply base with an Arsenal, a Powder Mill, etc. Create the Partisan unit in Western AZ from the Regional Decision (RGD) card and send it to NM set to Green/Green Evade Combat. As soon as your group with Canby unlocks, blow the dep...

Re: CV1 vs CV2

As a strategic war game, AACW is similar to CW2. The "all east" Union strategy and the quick blitz of D.C. works in both. The artillery Division works in both games. Many of the combat mechanics are also similar if not identical. A game feature not in the original is the Regional Decision ...

Re: Gettysburg cyclorama building demolished

If I read everything correctly, the actual painting(s) still hang in the Museum and Visitor's Center. The Cyclorama building no longer remains. The historical artifact was saved for the respectful admiration of future guests. So, the memorial art outlived the architecture that housed it. Hopefully s...

Re: What strategy would you propose? Late ´62

You might assemble the forces available in Leesburg and cross the Potomac into Montgomery, MD. The Union stacks don't seem to have a good commander among them. If they MTSG piecemeal, you might beat the whole lot and then march on D.C. Very interesting.

Re: What strategy would you propose? Late ´62

If D.C. is still the Union capital, then assemble your best force under Lee and take it. This crushes Union morale and should lead to ultimate victory.

Screenshots are always interesting if you can get that to work.

This states that CSA Divisions were sometimes twice as large as the Union's. What if we only gave Union Divisions 10 slots? Until CW3, such a house rule might put some new life in the CSA.

Re: Random generals

If you attack a stack commanded by a 6-6-6 General with a stack commanded by your own 6-6-6 General, their leadership effects totally cancel each other out actually. So Lee or Grant don't always win because they're you know who. That's why I advocate good infantry Divisions supported by an artillery...

Re: Random generals

Athena or a human opponent are not going to follow a scripted historical campaign of your design. Even if you could arrange this from the start, random chance will change things until at some point you are going off script. Then you have to reason out your next move. So, sooner or later, you have to...

As the AGEWiki states, the max number of replacements your unit can absorb in one turn is 30%. Two would be 30% of seven.

I can feel your pain. All the "Class of..." Generals show up in D.C. and it's an acquired art to disperse them. If you click the General's icon and drag him to the first leg of his journey, like the Annapolis region, and then drop him, he will pop out to be separated from the pack. Then yo...

Re: Questions from a new player of the game

1) Page 71 in the Game Manual has a list of reasons that a unit might not be built. One reason is that each unit has a "weight" and each production location a capacity to build. If the weight exceeds the capacity, then it takes longer than advertised. 2) This is indeed a basic strategy and...
