Re: Points to Know - Central Powers

One small addition which might be news to someone: it's possbile to attach more than 8 armies to a GHQ, even though the face card won't display more than 8. I'm not sure if there's a limit at all.

Re: Naval Interception

I've had the same thing happen to me in TEAW. Try changing the posture to offensive (if it wasn't already), de-selecting the navy and selecting it again. Has worked for me.

Chemical attacks

1. All types of chemical attacks have three more efficient uses at first. Are these per faction or expended by every side? At least the first strike bonus, according to the tooltip, applies to all sides. 2. Is it WAD that super heavy artillery can't be used for chemical attacks? If yes, seems a litt...

Re: Storming the Ramparts

My understanding is that combat power is an approximation of the unit's combat prowess, ie. a unit with 80 combat power isn't necessarily twice more effective than one with 40. I would imagine (and hope!) that heavy and super heavy artillery offer things besides just their raw combat power, for exam...

Re: Storming the Ramparts

There isn't dedicated siege artillery in TEAW, is there? Heavy artillery has a siege bonus. Heavy artillery's main function is to provide punch in ordinary battles.

If you don't believe me, believe Altaris: http://ageod-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=358&t=52122&p=396358#p396358 :) My guess is that some of the starting armies have both engineers and pioneers for mostly flavour reasons. Personally I think that with the current set of (visible) bonuses the pio...

Right, this could be it. I've never taken into account that admirals might be inactive too.

Re: Imbalanced events

To reply in the spirit of you note - The CP can knock the socks off the Entente powers with devilishly clever NM ploys. How? Are there any other methods available besides winning battles while destroying elements and forcing garrisons to surrender? Or are there "hidden" events that affect...

Re: Storming the Ramparts

Unfortunately the same trait doesn't stack, ie. one only gets the siege benefit once from pioneers and engineers. Ditto for different types or multiples of the same artillery.

Imbalanced events

I'm aware that most likely the game won't be patched anymore, but I was wondering at the (im)balance of NM affecting events currently in the game. Doing a quick count of the events visible at the 1914 start, the CP gets +5 NM from the Deutschland-event (sub reaching America), and loses 10 NM after t...

Re: To End All Wars Mod - Ultimate Enhancement Mod

Does the mod add generals? There are lots of leaders in the 1916 campaign that are missing from the base campaign. Would be wonderful to have them available for the full war.

Admirals' stats drop?

I noticed this for the first time as I was doing test runs with the A-H navy: the stats of their admirals drop when they leave port. For example Horthy is a 4-5-2 in port but when sailing he drops to 4-4-1. Why? He shouldn't be receiving any GHQ bonus when in port, should he? His stats drop regardle...

Re: Points to Know - Central Powers

Stay inactive on the Caucasus front. Why poke a sleeping bear? Large Russian forces locked here will be released by your attack, also terrain, weather, and supply can be major issues. Aren't the Russian Caucasus forces simply locked until the Ottomans join the war, and then released immediately or ...

Is the mixed nationality penalty displayed in one of the small icons in the unit panel in the combat report?

Durk; do you mean that Landwehr can upgrade to regular infantry? If yes, are you sure of that?

Re: New player, need naval and diplomacy help

Regarding Mexico one should keep in mind that trying to influence them will anger the USA. There's an event (Zimmerman Telegraph, I think) that gives the Entente an alignment bonus with the USA if the CP have a diplomat in Mexico.

It's also interesting to note that Karl actually didn't lose at Poltava either. Due to his leg injury the overall command was held by Rehnskiöld.

In any case I think that locking him for 5 years just because of one battle or for failing to capture a certain city would be far too harsh.

Re: Ideas, suggestions & questions

Indeed the allied navy event could use some tuning. Also currently the Dutch squadron is inaccessible to Sweden, but it's spawned. I can look at the Ingrian names, but not sure how good sources I have for that. I've also been working on a list of cities/forts to add, if you have any suggestions I'd ...

Re: Second Post Release Patch

Historically a very important event was king Charles XII exile in the Ottoman Empire 1709-1714. Is this event possible in the game? It would require a very specific set of circumstances to happen. Such as Sweden somehow ending up in Ukraine, suffering a devastating defeat there combined with the su...

Re: Second Post Release Patch

Nice to see that the Treaty of Altranstädt was changed, but as the Breaking of Patkul event was left untouched, it's now a really overpowered combination. This is weird: despite the CTD I was able to load the save, and it has actually progressed one turn. Also my stack that was in Dresden was only moved to the neigbouring province of ...

CTD with new patch

I installed the new beta patch and continued my old save game. First I actually reversed one turn, because I had previously fired the bugged Altranstädt event. At the end of my first turn processing, I got a CTD. I'm attaching the save and the main log.

Re: Ideas, suggestions & questions

Well the amount of turns that the regiments should be locked is debatable (and finally we have some discussion!), but in any case they (Swedish regulars) definitely should start the game at 100 %. The article that I mentioned is from the Great Northern War Compendium, titled "The First Foray: T...

Campaign -Why does the GNW start with Swedish units very badly depleted while the ASC has all units at 100% strength? This gripe applies at least to all the regular Swedish units (other than "Tremännig"). For them the (trained!) manpower existed already, and also all the necessary equipme...

Feel free to post your suggestions on books about the period here. I'll start with two books dealing with the GNW: -Peter Englund: Poltava (The English edition seems to be called "The Battle That Shook Europe: Poltava and the Birth of the Russian Empire"). This is a classic. Englund is a w...
