Re: Wars of Succession has been updated to version 1.01

It works even if you haven't upgraded?

Perhaps I'll change mine to say version 3.1 April 1st 2021

Re: How did the game do?

I have just updated my version of "The Operational Art of War" - there are over 500 user made scenarios so it is no wonder it has become one of the most esteemed war games. I've always felt Ageod missed a trick by making it so hard to alter things or make new scenarios. If a fraction of th...

One last push for victory 100 years on.

As probably the only person who plays this game, and even then only occasionally, I've fired it up for a couple of short scenarios. There is an AAR by someone on the Matrix site which covers the Moltke plan of Russia first which is unusual and which caught my eye. I've also played the Paradox game V...

Re: Europa Universalis is 25 years old

By coincidence I have my copy of Paradox's version of Diplomacy to hand wondering whether to re install it just to remind myself what an awful mess they made of such a well known game. It has cartoonish characters with animal names making grunting sounds from which you are supposed to judge whether ...

Re: Europa Universalis is 25 years old

I have EU1 - but still haven't read the manual all the way through.

Recently got For The Glory - a sort of EU2 on steroids.

There's so much history in these games - thanks for all that Phil - I wish I could get more people interested in them.

Try the earlier Napoleon's Campaigns. Less than a £/$/€ (used) on Amazon in UK a few minutes ago and you get a paper manual.

Here's an AAR albeit some pictures don't work now: viewtopic.php?f=138&t=7475

Well I just played the Gettysburg scenario - albeit on AACW 1.06 - and got a glorious victory as the confederates by occupying Washington rather than Gettysburg having feinted a rush to get those mythical shoes.

I've just played the invasion of England scenario for the first time. I got ashore but was defeated outside London.

Good fun - definitely worth a few dollars.

Finland and Borodino scenarios

I thought I would fire WON up again and I noticed on my 1.02 new game listing there are two called:

"StrFinland1808DispName" and "StrBorodino1812DispName"

Have I got an unfinished patch or what? There's no description but they start up with some forces allocated.

I visited this in about 1968. Random idling on Wikipedia led me to this - via Mission 66.

Time to play the Gettysburg scenario from CW2 and AACW again.

Re: How to get a new download for my copy?

About £2 for a used boxed copy with manual on Amazon near me. I think the latest patches can be downloaded still. I've long had doubts about digital only games and used to nearly always buy a boxed copy but they are not always offered now. File note: remember to copy the download files for new games...

Re: DLCs

I have found the Cantabrain War DLC to be a nasty business for Rome. Brutal terrain, too few troops with too many missions coupled with a potentially deadly opponent. It is cheap to buy and offers some really challenging asymmetrical warfare experience. That said, the entire franchise is worth play...

Well tonight I'm in St Hippolyte in the Jura but I went via Arracourt which some of you may know from the small scenario in The Operational Art of War. There I found another Sherman tank by the road and a description of the battle which was about the biggest tank battle for the US before the Bulge. ...

US WW1 memorial at Dun sur Meuse

Randomly driving my campervan round France I am in Dun sur Meuse tonight where the war memorial I expected to be for the French is actually to WW1 Americans. Anyway, that inspired me to have a rare go at this game - I have a laptop when travelling. I tried the 1918 scenario to see if the US troops t...

Re: Second Post Release Patch

I definitely think events should be a surprise for most players - which I guess means a few developers and beta testers need to be let in on the list for testing prior to release of a game. History is a series of coincidences happening or not happening. If Franz Ferdinand's driver had not got lost t...

Not enough scenarios - biggest problem of Ageod games

Birth of America had lots of short scenarios. ECW has three medium/long ones, Historical wargaming is a pretty niche market but I feel Ageod restricts the appeal of its games by making them too long, difficult and complicated for casual players. Not everybody is a genius with hours days or weeks to ...

Re: Poll. To be or not to be hexed.

I thought the regions were mostly hexes but with wiggly lines. I think Ageod should produce a wargame construction kit covering lots of eras and with a random scenario generator. The lack of player made scenarios always limits the games in my mind because not everyone wants to play massive campaigns...
