Re: US WW1 memorial at Dun sur Meuse

Well tonight I'm in St Hippolyte in the Jura but I went via Arracourt which some of you may know from the small scenario in The Operational Art of War. There I found another Sherman tank by the road and a description of the battle which was about the biggest tank battle for the US before the Bulge. ...

US WW1 memorial at Dun sur Meuse

Randomly driving my campervan round France I am in Dun sur Meuse tonight where the war memorial I expected to be for the French is actually to WW1 Americans. Anyway, that inspired me to have a rare go at this game - I have a laptop when travelling. I tried the 1918 scenario to see if the US troops t...

Re: Second Post Release Patch

I definitely think events should be a surprise for most players - which I guess means a few developers and beta testers need to be let in on the list for testing prior to release of a game. History is a series of coincidences happening or not happening. If Franz Ferdinand's driver had not got lost t...

Not enough scenarios - biggest problem of Ageod games

Birth of America had lots of short scenarios. ECW has three medium/long ones, Historical wargaming is a pretty niche market but I feel Ageod restricts the appeal of its games by making them too long, difficult and complicated for casual players. Not everybody is a genius with hours days or weeks to ...

Re: Poll. To be or not to be hexed.

I thought the regions were mostly hexes but with wiggly lines. I think Ageod should produce a wargame construction kit covering lots of eras and with a random scenario generator. The lack of player made scenarios always limits the games in my mind because not everyone wants to play massive campaigns...

Nice pun.

There is a road sign on one of the main roads out of London (A40) - "Polish War Memorial" - I'm glad it is cleaned.

Is just playing scenarios - e.g. Borodino any good

Well I thought I might at least give WON small scenarios a go as I never have time or patience for 500 turn games.

I notice the Borodino scenario has no intro text - just says "strxxx" in the selection box. Does it actually play OK or was it a 1.03 add-on that was never finished?

It shouldn't take a year to repair. Particularly an engineer called Herman Haupt seemed to get them fixed in no time. There are some books on the issue and one by Osprey. Re: How to destroy Mack in Ulm?

Well I've had another go and I think Mack must have been drinking too much Red Bull. Anyway, he eventually died (probably a heart attack) and overall the French lost 180,000 and the coalition 290,000. A very bloody points win.

Re: How to destroy Mack in Ulm?

I've just tried following that walkthrough too. I got a broadly similar outcome to the AAR but only attacked Ulm on turn 3- it seems that things may have changed a bit as the troop numbers I have are different from those in the pictures - I'm running 1.10 but the AAR must have an earlier version. Un...

Re: 1.04.5 not available for Gamersgate or Paradox PON owners

Which still doesn't address the issue of why Matrix/Ageod were happy to issue patches for PON up to 1.04 - and then suddenly ambush those who didn't have a serial number on the whitelist/blacklist. Not with a polite "sorry this upgrade patch is only for those who bought from Matrix" but mo...

Re: 1.04.5 not available for Gamersgate or Paradox PON owners

I'm beginning to think that whichever so and so at Matrix put together this blacklist/whitelist of PON serial numbers didn't ask Gamersgate for their serials because they thought the Gamersgate numbers were included in those from Paradox when in fact Gamersgate has been separate since about 2009. No...

Re: 1.04.5 not available for Gamersgate or Paradox PON owners

1. Paradox didn't fail to hand over keys; they handed over all the data they had. Paradox separated from Gamersgate in about 2009. 2. Your install is persona suspecta because you are effectively part of the home team and also all the development work you have done (and kudos for that, and your AARs)...

This is what Slitherine support said to me: "We can only support keys bought directly from AGEOD or from the Slitherine or Matrix shops. We are sorry for this. Kind Regards, Paulo Costa The Slitherine Group" In other words if you have a Paradox, Gamersgate or other version with a serial nu...

Re: 1.04.5 not available for Gamersgate or Paradox PON owners

There is actually good grounds for complaint. PON patches up to 1.04 would work on all versions of the game whether they were Matrix, Paradox, Gamersgate. So they can produce a patch and allow it to run on any version of PON if they want to. 1.04.5 up until a while ago would check whether your seria...

1.04.5 not available for Gamersgate or Paradox PON owners

I'm not impressed by this change of policy by Matrix. Up to a few months ago all patches and betas to about 1.04 seemed available to owners of PON who bought through Gamersgate or Paradox or had boxed copies from them. Now the game won't update to 1.04.5 and Matrix are saying tough. Here are two rep...

Same issue. Gamersgate version, can't start the grand campaign after the latest patch. Yes, I like it because so many of the places are local - rather like CW2 must be for US residents. I too make house rules for games where there are odd things. One of my favourite games is still the original Combat Mission - but the AI troops have a tendency to do human wave suicide missions to get ...

The disappearance of the screenshots should serve as a reminder not to store your stuff on the web or the cloud. The narwhal/loki aars were great.

This thread did get me to have a quick play at the 4 emperors too. AJE is a great series. Time to make sure you have some installable back ups.

Sydnam or Sydenham?

There is a place in south London called Sydenham.

There is a pub called the Poyntz Arms in West Molesey - a couple of miles from Hampton Court.
