Yes, any kind of estimate would be great.

I am just about to come back to this game after burning out on Kaiserreich.

1.04 Beta Patch: Assassination of Franz Ferdinand

I recently installed the new beta patch and loaded my save game, which is in February of 1857.

As soon as I played one turn (as France), I noticed that the Austrians had the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand event!

Is there a way to fix the patch so this doesn't happen?

That's extremely disappointing.

I thought that was kind of the point of these 1.04 patches was to get rid of those.

The perceived value of units are in ratio to their cohesion, so all units under construction are worth 0 in the current system. The standings still make no sense, even with this in mind. In December 1856, I have 13 army corps as France in play (none under construction), plus all the other units you...

Army Replacements and the F10 Standings Screen

I have a few questions that have resulted in my first 1.04 game (I was playing 1.03 before the last two patches). I'm playing as France and I'm in 1856. 1. On the F10 standing screen, it shows that Britain has a navy score of 300+ and an army score of 120. The United States has a navy score of 140 a...

I've started two new games and played through about the end of 1852 each time. There's definitely no speed increase for me along the lines of what vaalen describes. The interface is less laggy starting a new game than trying to continue a 1.03 save game, but the speed isn't appreciably better than i...

but well i finded out that modiffing these files and starting new game dosnt work, you must add them via event, which have added bonus that it can be used on ongoing games. Modding the scenario files in any AGEOD game has never worked for me (I almost pulled my hair out trying to do it for Civil Wa...

I've started two new games and this graphics bug happens each time.

In fact, it's not just dreadnoughts, you will find lots of modern ship art being used to represent sailing/steam ships. The underlying units are correct, but the art is wrong.

Force Pools

Is there a way to edit a nation's force pool?

For example, if I think France should have more gendarmes or manufacturing plants or whatever, is there a file where that information is stored?

Installed the new beta patch and PON does not run at all now. The program hangs on the loading Data... 3/3 screen and the stock Windows "This program has stopped responding" message appears after about 4-5 minutes. So I intend to uninstall everything and return to PON v1.03e until the v1.04 becomes...

Well, I'm using this and it's gotten slower.

GEForce GTX 760
Intel Core I7 CPU 920 2.67 Ghz
12 GB of RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium

I can run almost any other game at max settings with no problem.

I am now up to turn twenty five, and the time between turns is still less than thirty seconds. That might have some thing to do with the world being at peace. I know some people have had a very different result, but this patch is making a huge difference in my time between turns. I'm really envious...

Is it just me, or has the game's performance actually gone down with this patch? I'm getting sub-10 framerates even in the small war scenarios which wasn't the case with earlier patches. Not just you. For whatever reason, it has really slowed down on my computer as well post-patch. It particularly ...

I'll check that this Saturday if possible. You should know that there will always be things like that in games so huge as PON. If you wait for perfection, you'll never probably play it. That's a fair point, but this is something that was working in 1.03 and now isn't. That's kind of frustrating -- ...

I wasn't expecting AGEOD to do anything I suggested. I was asked what key elements I thought PoN was missing to be the best strategy game ever made. The holes in the AI and the political system are glaring because the game purports to be so in-depth. The determinism on governments like the Second Em...

Branching events, real modeling of political systems (ie. no determinism on governments, mainly the Second Empire, but even just in terms of who serves as British PM, etc.), a functional AI (most important), and a better contentment/militancy system (or at least a more transparent presentation of th...

I'm really glad we may get another patch. Thanks for still supporting this game.

I really wish the AI was better. This has the potential to be the best strategy game ever made. It is just missing key elements (very key elements in fact).

In my experience, it's hard to even get the AI to move its units (in another thread I pointed out that Austria let Italian rebels sit in Venetia for years despite having 3 corps in an adjacent province doing nothing -- ultimately I destroyed the rebels by landing French marines). I could post a bunc...

Thank you for the clarification. I never thought of Athena as a cheater, and it is amazing how formidable she can be. I really want the version of the game you have. Victoria 2 by Paradox is similar, but you'll probably find it a bit disappointing after the historical depth of PON.

That being said, it's much more polished and many more nations are in a more playable state. But don't expect it to hew close to history.

The designers of this game really need to read some of the credible scholarship on the Second Empire.
