Re: What does Veteran Activation Actually Do?

Question: are you comparing defense automatically turned to offense posture? If so, these are the same no matter the activation option selected. Where it matters is if you would not be auto-changed because your control is sufficient. So you correctly see no evidence. Remember, this is medium activa...

Re: What does Veteran Activation Actually Do?

Hmmm, the combat penalty is only on the defensive? Seems weird. I did only test attacking with inactive commanders.. I'll have to try that. Ummm... what? An inactive Leader cannot voluntarily go to Offensive Posture (OP), but he can be forced into OP, by entering a region, in which he has < 5% MC. ...

Re: Time for WIA II

Like all rational humans; I fear change... This game is still really good. While I want #3, I wonder if it would be able to meet my high expectations. Better not touch that awesome looking map... I think this game would be a great candidate for a re-master and re-release. You know, maybe on its 10th...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

Considering the disparity in the number and size of cities on each side of the game, I don't feel that granting the same VPs for controlling them should be the same. If the Union controls Memphis in '63 it's really no big deal. But if the South does, that is an accomplishment, and ought to be honor...

Re: Game still to unbalanced for CSA

I'd agree that the game is too imbalanced to make a good competitive game. It may be fun and historically accurate, but not balanced at all. It seems to me that the Union has an abundance of ways to do better than they did in history, but the CSA does not. A decent Union player can alleviate all the...

Re: What does Veteran Activation Actually Do?

Inactive commanders can use some special orders, but not all of them. I don't know each one, but I know they can't evade combat, nor can they destroy depots or forts. The movement penalty is 35%. Its the same across all activation settings. The combat penalty is hidden under the hood. Its not obviou...

:siffle: Okay, I fully admit that it took me waay too long to figure out why you didn't mention where Stonewall was deployed. I've played too many 1861 games where he never dies; it messed up my memory. Thankfully, it looks like you have an abundance of corps commanders to choose from. Getting all t...

Re: Do Game Settings Only Impact When you start the game?

Nope, settings are not saved per game. You can change the settings mid game. You can leave the AI on in a PBEM game. It will only take over a faction if there are no orders found for it when you try to run the turn. If the AI is not on the neutral factions won't do anything. Not that are many in CW2...

*There may be an exception to this as an absolute rule. The exception would be if there is a trait that a general has that only applies to the unit it is part of. I am not aware offhand of any traits that behave like that (I think they are all stack, region, or occasionally theater). It would also ...

Re: Upgraded to 1.063, got an error starting

Hey, charlesmission In one of the last patches they added some directx wrappers, those MAY be the source of your problem. Maybe you could backup those files, then delete them from the game to see if it works without them. They should be in your base CW2 folder. They are: "d3d8.dll" and &qu...

Re: American Revolution and French and Indian War new models pictures

Excellent work. Thank you.

I had a minor issue with 'Unit_ING_Braves1', the unit was a bit too far on the left side, the unit traits covered up a bit of face so I moved the image a tad to the right.

Ya, it is a bit gamey... Though, if my general forgot his California invasion orders under a shady tree and the orders were discovered by a Union soldier... would he believe them, or would he laugh and enjoy his new toilet paper? Re: Promotions

I believe that you need to update the mdl_Alias.ini and the uni_Alias.ini inside the CW2/Aliases folder in addition to the files located in the unit and model folders. You also have a typo in the 870 model file, 'Ability2 = $abiGoodSub_Cmf', that Cmf should be Cmd. I changed those and it worked for ...

Re: What's the best way to capture Colorado and California?

If cost is not an issue then I would recommend a CSA naval invasion of California. Yup...No joke. I have experimented with a naval invasion of Cali a bit. I once tried it in a PBEM, but my opponent quit the turn I landed so I didn't get to see how disastrous the plan was. I think you would need at l...

Like Orso says, its mostly about luck; In January of 1862 you need to roll 10 or less on a hundred sided die... :leprechau In January of 1862 is when the Trent affair should resolve. The Union will play it cool 90% of the time, which will reduce FI. However, if the Union escalates the affair then FI...

Re: Out of State Militia bug.

You should be able to change it mid-game, though it will affect all your games. I'm not sure if the other values work right, I think they do, I haven't noticed them not working. The out of state movement penalty does work. I think those values for strategic, offensive, and defensive are for corps ou...

2. Militias are not really confined to their home state, the negative impact of using them outside their home state is just minor(btw I think saw a thread that even notes that this negative impact does not work but that state militias get stronger instead of weaker outside their home state). They a...

Here you fetch me again. But did cotton play an important role in the war efforts of the rebel faction? Its my opinion that the CS tried to make cotton play an important role but failed to do so. For imposing an embargo on cotton, way too much made it out, especially to the North. Turns out that it...

@BigDuke66, I think that if you, Orso, and I had our way we might spend half our turns managing fodder and cotton. :) You are right about the Union not being able to impact cotton, but the CS doesn't make much from it. Unless they made a ton more, sailing a force down to Texas might lose you more in...

Re: Matagorda - Block Cotton selling

So what I am thinking is 1. The Export Cotton Event, should continue firing regardless of how much cotton has already been exported. Why? Because I assume that the South will simply never export all of its harvested cotton. 2. Exporting Cotton RGD over the Mexican Border should also not be dependen...

Harvesting should not be something the player should be concerned with. Agreed. If the plantation is owned and unpillaged then you ge...

If the highest seniority general is also in command of a division, he will only give the unit commander bonus, (3% per OFF/DEF) not stack leader bonus (5% per OFF/DEF). That's backwards, its the other way around. The highest seniority commander will lead the stack and provide stack commander bonuse...

So, short of actually having 'cotton loads' to physically transport to the Mexican border, the only reasonable thing I can think of would be to restrict the Export Cotton RGD to the border towns on the Rio Grande close to the mouth, and find a way to give the South only one Export Cotton RGD at a t...

Interesting replies all around. The Export Cotton RGD is all about the Mexican border, the card reads, 'We will organize exports of cotton to European states through the Mexican border.' Like others have said, it is a fairly simple and abstract system, it gets the job done, but I don't like it. My r...
