Re: What's the best way to capture Colorado and California?

Ya, it is a bit gamey... Though, if my general forgot his California invasion orders under a shady tree and the orders were discovered by a Union soldier... would he believe them, or would he laugh and enjoy his new toilet paper? The craziest part is that there is a locked Union fleet in Cali that j...

Re: Promotions

I believe that you need to update the mdl_Alias.ini and the uni_Alias.ini inside the CW2/Aliases folder in addition to the files located in the unit and model folders. You also have a typo in the 870 model file, 'Ability2 = $abiGoodSub_Cmf', that Cmf should be Cmd. I changed those and it worked for ...

Re: What's the best way to capture Colorado and California?

If cost is not an issue then I would recommend a CSA naval invasion of California. Yup...No joke. I have experimented with a naval invasion of Cali a bit. I once tried it in a PBEM, but my opponent quit the turn I landed so I didn't get to see how disastrous the plan was. I think you would need at l...

Like Orso says, its mostly about luck; In January of 1862 you need to roll 10 or less on a hundred sided die... :leprechau In January of 1862 is when the Trent affair should resolve. The Union will play it cool 90% of the time, which will reduce FI. However, if the Union escalates the affair then FI...

Re: Out of State Militia bug.

You should be able to change it mid-game, though it will affect all your games. I'm not sure if the other values work right, I think they do, I haven't noticed them not working. The out of state movement penalty does work. I think those values for strategic, offensive, and defensive are for corps ou...

2. Militias are not really confined to their home state, the negative impact of using them outside their home state is just minor(btw I think saw a thread that even notes that this negative impact does not work but that state militias get stronger instead of weaker outside their home state). They a...

Re: Matagorda - Block Cotton selling

Here you fetch me again. But did cotton play an important role in the war efforts of the rebel faction? Its my opinion that the CS tried to make cotton play an important role but failed to do so. For imposing an embargo on cotton, way too much made it out, especially to the North. Turns out that it...

In all honesty, if you had made a statement about trade between the Union and Confederacy during the war, without presenting the evidence, I would not have believed it, and been appalled at the audacity. My god, we created a monster. :mdr: Yup, this thread has turned into quite the monster, but for me its the tip of the ice-berg; I enlisted the help of a friend who is an amateur board game designer and we started making an economic based game about smuggling cotton out of the South. You can tell I've been playing too much Twilight Struggle this week. I blame the horrible weather. @BigDuke66, I think that if you, Orso, and I had our way we might spend half our turns managing fodder and cotton. :) You are right about the Union not being able to impact cotton, but the CS doesn't make much from it. Unless they made a ton more, sailing a force down to Texas might lose you more in...

Re: Matagorda - Block Cotton selling

So what I am thinking is 1. The Export Cotton Event, should continue firing regardless of how much cotton has already been exported. Why? Because I assume that the South will simply never export all of its harvested cotton. 2. Exporting Cotton RGD over the Mexican Border should also not be dependen...

Re: Matagorda - Block Cotton selling

Harvesting should not be something the player should be concerned with. Agreed. To clarify what I was thinking: The current event that awards six bales of cotton in November would be removed and replaced with separate events for each plantation. If the plantation is owned and unpillaged then you ge...

Re: Who are more important, Corps or Division COs?

If the highest seniority general is also in command of a division, he will only give the unit commander bonus, (3% per OFF/DEF) not stack leader bonus (5% per OFF/DEF). That's backwards, its the other way around. The highest seniority commander will lead the stack and provide stack commander bonuse...

Re: Matagorda - Block Cotton selling

So, short of actually having 'cotton loads' to physically transport to the Mexican border, the only reasonable thing I can think of would be to restrict the Export Cotton RGD to the border towns on the Rio Grande close to the mouth, and find a way to give the South only one Export Cotton RGD at a t...

Re: Matagorda - Block Cotton selling

Interesting replies all around. The Export Cotton RGD is all about the Mexican border, the card reads, 'We will organize exports of cotton to European states through the Mexican border.' Like others have said, it is a fairly simple and abstract system, it gets the job done, but I don't like it. My r...

It should be an easy fix. There probably are some other RGD's that could use that fix too. I think I recall some previous complaints about not being able to stop the 'sneak in blockade runner' RGD. Forgive my ignorance here, but whats the deal with Matagorda being the sole region for the sale of CSA...

D'oh, you accidentally lost the level 8 entrenchment in Fort Monroe? That's not good... Well, if worst comes to worst then you won't have to worry about Butler demanding an army command... @Orso, Yup, you are correct; a general can't be both a stack and a unit commander at the same time. If a general is the stack commander and also has a division when a battle ensues, his division will not receive any division command bonuses. I have tested it several times, because the first time I r...

Ya, the inherited stats can't exceed the army commanders own stats. I believe the strategic rating is the only stat capable of being reduced through the chain of command. The offensive and defensive ratings will never go down. Giving Grant a corp under Lil'Mac will only negatively affect Grant's str...

An interesting idea. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "one turn reserve" though. Currently every unit, AFAIK, can always carry 2 turns worth of GS. As far as I know there is no unit that carries less than two turns of GS. However, there are a few that I can remember off hand that can...

You are right to be skeptical of the counter-intelligence cards; their 25$ price tag is pretty high. I rarely use them. In general I find fighting for loyalty to not be worth the cost. Or rather, I don't like spending resources on loyalty. I try to save every dollar for recruitment. Usually, I just ...

You asked how other players use their cash options. As the Union I always use them as soon as they are available and I still find myself wanting more cash (who doesn't). I tend to buy a lot of artillery and use the higher end choices of recruiting options. I also tend to invest in my railroad almost...
