I made the mistake of bribing an Indian unit in New Mexico once that was fixed. Might try
that modification of yours.

The only time I've seen the subvert card work is on Little Crow and his force, along with
the Lipans out West. Crow is one hell of a great commander for the Union. I have never
seen the subvert card work for the CSA. :(

Re: Civil War statues

I can only speak for what I see happening in Memphis. The meaning of the 1964 erection of the statue of Jeff Davis, with no mention of his other services to the US, was quite clear. It seems that most people want that one gone in particular. It serves no other purpose since the man lived here about ...

Re: Civil War statues

Strom Thurmond, Jessie Helms, and several others are prime examples of how conservatives and liberals switched parties during the 1950s and 1960s. I can show you a poster from 1956 that promotes joining labor unions created by the Republican party. That same poster wouldn't fly today. When it comes ...

Re: Civil War statues

I suppose I'm closer to this than most of you. Here in Memphis we have 2 statues that really do need relocating. No one is talking about destroying them, just moving them. Let me address them in turn. Nathan B Forrest - he and his wife are buried under the statue erected near downtown. The park has ...

Nice to see you getting it to work on Linux. Debian user myself, servers mostly. Still use Windows though. It did freeze up on me last night when I zoomed out from the map. I might avoid that in the future ;) My other laptop that runs Win7 has a bottom half of the screen messed up. It wobbles. That...

Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

Maybe not such an advantage at all; I believe Maj. Gen. George Pickett said, "The Yankees got all the smart ones and see where it got them." The Federal performance, in the early war years, sure backs this idea up. Engineers are not always the best leaders of men. Weren't Lee and Beaurega...

Re: Got the game to work on Linux Mint!

I'm really getting sick of Windows so this is a relief. I really like the ease of using Mint instead. If I have a crash it's pretty easy to recover anything on the hard drive. I'm also not forced to accept updates. I'm sure there are others out there who wouldn't mind running Linux but think their g...

Re: How to form division

Once you enable a leader to form a division you select that leader, then holding down the shift key select up to 15 elements. A plus sign will appear after you select a few. If you click on that the division will be formed. There are quite a few posts on this group that discuss the pros and cons of ...

Re: New player with questions

The numbers are Strategic Rating (higher the better) Attack rating, then Defense rating. The higher the strategic rating the better the chance for a leader to be activated (unfixed). if you play with the activation rules off then the only troops that are fixed are Fortress troops and those troops wh...

Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

As noted, the south may have initially had an advantage due to the larger percentage of West Point graduates in their ranks and the strength of the militia tradition across the south. Maybe not such an advantage at all; I believe Maj. Gen. George Pickett said, "The Yankees got all the smart on...

I think he's asking if you can have any effect on the Trent Affair, and the answer is no. It's a random part of the game. Here's a ponder though. I've only ever seen one outcome for the Chapman plot. Does anyone know if there is another one? Can I get a raider on the West coast if it goes the other ...

See what happens if you increase the detection bonus. It's worth a try. Lieutenant level gives me a very

What level are you playing on, and how is the aggression set? I play on Lieutenant with average aggression. No matter what, an AI is limited, and you should be able to figure out exploits against her fairly soon. Norfolk is one, where she never moves in as the CSA right away and I can usually send e...

One thing I remember from discussions on Beta was that BOTH sides have to select prisoner exchange during the same turn for that to go into effect. As others have said I don't ever use it, especially when playing the Union as they have plenty of manpower at that point and starving the South is my aim.

For example, I do not want replacements wasted on heavy artillery in some remote location that will
never see action. The computer doesn't know this and will buy replacements that I don't need. If you
are just learning the game auto replacements is OK, but learn to live without it soon. :hat:

Look for the icon with the caduceus symbol http://i.imgur.com/ltjDfPv.jpg Be sure to leave the ALL button selected instead of a region. Often you can't purchase an HQ if a region is selected even though it's available for purchase. Same thing happens with supply units too, for some reason.
