*ALT02 installation instructions (version 0.201)
*****

First, all of these changes must be performed while the game is *NOT* running.

Before you start, you should create a mod folder. You should create the mod folder from an unmodified install folder. I cannot help you with problems unless you isolate the changes made by this install to a mod folder with a clean install.

If you aren't familiar with it, a mod folder for CW2 consists of the Civil War 2\CW2 folder and sub-folders and all the files therein, copied to a folder with a different name inside the main CW2 directory. You can have as many mod folders as you have disk space available, but you only need one for this mod.

The CW2\CW2 folder structure should look like this.

Volume in drive C has no label.
 Volume Serial Number is C0B9-9CB4

The mod folder will be Civil War 2\<name of your mod folder>. The name of the folder isn't important, just something significant to you. You will *COPY* everything in Civil War 2\CW2 to Civil War 2\<MOD FOLDER>. Depending on computer speed that might take a few minutes. Once that is complete, there are some files you'll need to delete from Civil War 2\<MOD FOLDER>. You need to delete all the files in Civil War 2\<MOD FOLDER>\GameData\Models\ and Civil War 2\<MOD FOLDER>\GameData\Units\.

Once that is done, you will extract the contents of the compressed file that you downloaded to Civil War 2\<MOD FOLDER>, overwriting every file you're asked about. If you're not asked to overwrite files in Civil War 2\<MOD FOLDER>, something went wrong.

To play using the mod, you edit the modpath.ini file, which is found in the Civil War 2 main folder. If you haven't used any mods before, it'll be an empty text file. You put the name of the mod folder on the first line of that file and save it. If your mod folder's name is MODMODMOD, then modpath.ini would have the word MODMODMOD on the first line and would contain no other data. When you want to stop using the mod, edit modpath.ini again to remove any data in it and save it. You can switch back and forth between the vanilla game and this mod or any other with this step.

Once you've edited and saved modpath.ini, you can start the game. The mod has its own launch selection among the other options and it should be clearly labeled. On my computer it shows up at the bottom of the list. You should be able to play just like you would the regular campaign, the only differences being those listed in the release notes. You could even play the other vanilla scenarios if you want, but they will include the string description changes as well as the leader CP changes. I haven't removed the vanilla units and force pools from the original scenarios or other files. My changes should be isolated to their sets of scripts and in many cases they are labeled with an ALT02 tag.

I welcome and encourage any feedback you have about the mod. Suggestions for future improvements, problems with the changes, AI can't figure things out, whatever. Even if you hate it, that will be useful to know. Hope you enjoy your holidays!
